Default [UNOFFICIAL] Android 2.2 (Chinese version) Update Instructions for Huawei Ascend

[ATTENTION: WE ARE HAVING TROUBLES PORTING IT TO METRO PHONES, PLEASE STAND BY AS WE ARE LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM]

FROYO INSTALLATION GUIDE, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL UPDATE, YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Couple of notes:
-After install, your phone will think it is the C8600, DONT PANIC, This is the Chinese version of the M860
-BEFORE INSTALL, PLEASE READ THE FIRST 3 STEPS OF PROGRAMMING...

Installation

//1) Prepare a capacity of more than 256MB SD card, it is recommended to use Sandisk, Kingstone, or Kingmax
//2) Formatting SD card (optional)
//3) Right-click software compression package, select extract to the current directory, unzip completed there will be a dload directory
//4) confirm the existence updata.app file dload directory and then copy the dload to the SD card root directory
//5) When the phone turned off, insert the SD card, press the hang up button + volume up button + power button, the phone automatically goes into upgrade mode, and then begin the upgrade.

Note:
1, from Éclair 2.1 platform to Froyo 2.2 platform upgrade version, you need to upgrade twice to be successful. In the first upgrade will be prompted to fail when nearing completion (which is normal), need to unplug the battery (if plugged in USB cable, you also need to unplug the USB cable), wait 10 seconds or more, and then insert the battery, re-press hang up the volume on the key + key + power button again to upgrade, you can upgrade successfully.

2, if the user upgrades from Froyo 2.2 back Ecliar 2.1 platform, platform version, as long as the primary replacement Ecliar 2.1 platform version upgrade package, follow the steps above to upgrade one to step six once again (this time only upgrade once in step V can be successful.)

PROGRAMMING

The code you will type is...
MetroPCS users: 587846
Cricket users: 333333 (3 six times)

2) Write down your MDN, MIN, and CDMA Home SID, YOU WILL NEED THIS INFO!

3) Install Froyo...(instructions above)

4) After Install, you will need to press the dial pad, and type in.. *#*#2846579#*#*
From there you will need to click phone info set the network type to CDMA auto (PRL)

This is way too much for an update. Will wait for official. Instructions too confusing. Or until someone tries it out ( clockwork mod came out now)

its not that complicated. its just installing the firmware. and you have to redo your data because it is a brand new install. kinda like an OS

You thought right. Unless you uninstalled system apps or installed a custom ROM,( there's none as of now for the Ascend anyways)

When you say systems apps what do you mean? I've uninstalled quite a bit of stuff, could you give an example of a system app?

Actually no. I wrote that post with Icarius in mind. Read the parentheses carefully. I said as of now. I have not edited the post.

I think so. Not sure though. I deleted Canvas also, but yesterday I flashed the original ROM just for the update and have everything back, including Canvas. However, the ROM thing is for sure. I had the mytouch 3g with the Cyanogen ROM and when the 2.2 update came, the update failed. This is why I will not be installing the Icarius ROM. Better safe than sorry.

Hello Mark, Do not let the title of the thread trick you into thinking the actual update has been released..We are still waiting for the American version.

Now that I got that out of the way...Glad to no longer be the only smart-phone noob on the boards, welcome =)

The most specific and realistic date is late March. To satisfy your thirst for 2.2, I recommend you install Icarus. The instructions are detailed enought to be succesfully carried out by newbies. Here is the link: How To Install The Icarus MOD

My problem with that is that it will have to be undone for the official update to work wont it?

Updated the title to make it known that this is the unofficial Froyo release.

My personal advice, I wouldn't take the risk and just wait for the official update if this confuses/worries you.
