ok, 2.2 is the worst thing possible.
Metro is such a POS.
My phone is not so terrible, I just lost the ability to use ringtones and access various settings.
My gf's phone is now set at 4 hours off and there is no way to change it because the settings are all greyed out.

its not so bad once ya tweak it n clean it out a bit, but it runs circles around stock 2.1 any day.

if you want to change the time on a stock phone you need to put the phone in airplane mode first btw with the stock version of android weather it be 2.1 or 2.2.2 you could never adjust the time manually you always had to put the phone in airplane mode to do that and as soon as you took the phone off airplane mode it would go back to adjusting the time automatically. you should really consider installing CM6 or 7 on your phones

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum and new to android phones as well. I had posted a thread before but can' t seem to find it..anyways

I would like to upgrade to 2.2 but I am not sure how to do this. I don't want to ruin my phone (I have read some articles but it seems certain things stop working correctly) is there a link or could someone be kind enough to explain to me? Also, how do i tether my phone and do I need a specific app? Will I have to connect my laptop via wifi or use the usb cable?

I have read that 2.2 is way faster than 2.1, my phone is a little slow when I'm online loading pages etc (but I'm not complaining, I know it's not 3g) will I experience faster browsing with the 2.2 or is it just going to be faster in general use?

I also wanted to ask what exactly is "rooting"? I am not looking to get paid apps for free but are there any other pros to rooting your phone?

I have another question: I had downloaded an app to watch tv on my phone, I forget what the app was called, but it made my phone run really slow. I uninstalled it and now my phone is back to normal, but I would still like to find an app that plays tv so which is the best app for that? Also, are there any apps that are "must haves"? And which racing game apps would you recommend (similar to GT racing on iphones/ipods)?

I will appreciate your help and suggestions on the apps. Thanks a lot

1. on the tether subject: do you want to wifi tether (explore your files on your pc w/o a cable) or usb tether(give your pc wifi with a cable)?

2.And about the 2.2 thing, just officially update your phone to 2.2 since your stock. then root it with gingerbreak!

3.Root allows you to access things from your phone that you couldnt before, and you can make it faster, by overclocking. root has nothing to do by getting paid apps for free..

4.And browsing will not get faster since you update it, it all depends if you have 1G,3G, or WiFi.

5.Sorry to say about the TV app incident but the ascends can't run live tv in a app. our processor isn't big enough too, same with racing games, GT is un-playable in the ascend, sorry. some aren't just have to find the right one.

the only upgrade you can get on Criket is 1. Icarus
2. CM6
3. CM7
even with these upgrade you still cant get flash...

Check PHANDROID NEWS for a modded version of ADOBE FLASH.(Article & link was published earlier this week).
It works,not to perfection,but it works.Will probably work best when you upgrade to ICARUS1.1,CM6,or CM7

Ok, I have contacted The guys behind the Carl's Jr/Hardee's Rewards app to let them know that my ascend is having an issue. I need to find a way to simulate my phone on my computer and see if its a problem with the 2.2 update or just a simple error in the app. Also I need to capture screens for the support and devs to help them investigate this.

Device is Ascend 2.2.2 on Metro PCS.

Get gingerbreak, root your phone, dl the screenshot app from the market and take the shots you need... then if you want/need to, you can uninstall the screenshot app and unroot.

To simulate your phone, I know there is a way, as I've seen some of the devs mention it. My advice would be to check the xda forums.

It DOES on my phone,not great,but,I'm viewing ADOBE content from QWIKI on my ASCEND.
Maybe it's being converted to another format or something,it doesn't really matter to me.I'm just sharing my experience.I'm able to watch video w/audio that I wasn't able to before I loaded the modded ADOBE FLASH app.

wait the version I got worked 10.1 not very good but it did worked for like maybe 2 seconds than the browser would crash I would get the splash screen for Army Attack 1 of the best facebook games I might add I would get the loading bar and right when the game went from splash it crashed oh man I need a better paying job so I can get me one of those good phones that does just about everything except wipes your azz.

I've heard a couple rumors that we might get the update...

But most likely, you'll have to do clockwork. It's not as hard as it seems. Just do you're homework and read one of the guides before flashing anything. It doesn't take that long either once you understand what you're doing.

first love this forum its helped alot so thanks to every one ok 2 things i went to metro to pay my bill so i asked the guy behind the counter would metro be upgrading there phones to gingerbread 2.3 and he said all i had to do was buy a new phone lol. is there a thread on this forum that shows you how to update my huwaei ascend which is running thi froyo update to 2.3 gingerbread

There is no official update for 2.3, and probably never will be.

With that said, I recommend upgrading to cm7 which is based off 2.3 only better. Just make sure you READ one of the guides, depending on which version you decide to install. It's not as hard as it may seem at first, once you understand what you're doing.

how many here have tired MyBackup and compared it titanium backup
I'm using my backup free right now and I kind of like it better than titanium because of its simplicity.
I just would like to no what others think

P.S. thank you PlayfulGod for the updated cm7.2.2.3.5 installed it this morning.
I just figured out that my backup works great at backing up and restoring the only problem I found is after a program has been restored there is a 99% chance that it won't work all you will get is a FC screen thank god I backed up using both titanium Backup and MyBackup

Just got a text (message#5558) from CRICKET instructing me to dial *228 for an important update.
Anyone else get this &/or know what this is about?
I'm a bit leery of doing this,I don't need any issues w/my phone,as the latest CM7.2 ROM is working quite well on my phone.
Any response is welcome,including a PM.

The IMPORTANT UPDATE mentioned in the text (#5558) I received from CRICKET was all on their end,nothing to do w/the ASCEND or it's ANDROID operating system.

did anyone else notice what they did they updated there program and made sure anyone using CM7 or CM6 with the ascend at least can't get the update and if you don't already have Netflix installed you won't be able to the manufactures must be giving Netflix a lot of money to make sure they don't release there program to the owners of the cheap smartphone's.

thats the case with any custom ROM. On stock they are build.prop settings and/or files that allow updating from the carrier.

IMO tho why anyone would want to go back to stock after running a custom rom is beyond me lol

And far as netflix you can always download it from other sources and install it

It's been out, in two different flavors for METRO.
Looks like the ASCEND II is the only upgrade CRICKET owners will officially get,meaning,no upgrade on the ORIGINAL ASCEND.(They never officially promised it to begin with,not in any official releases).

Let's retire this thread, it's more than served its purpose.

I did the update, but my phone won't turn all the way on now. It just stays on the Huawei screen and freezes there. Is there anything I can do without taking it to the store? (The people they hire are horrible...)

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there plug your phone to the computer via usb cable, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

hopefully you made a backup before you did and is this a custom rom or the 2.2.2 update from metro if it is a custom rom just pull the battery than reboot the phone into recovery and restore the backup you should have made before updating the phone if not a custom rom do as nutmeg says
