Okay, I did this, but now it freezes at the Android screen. I also can't really turn it off becuase it turns right back on when i do. And I did do a backup before I started, btw.

I have a Huawei M-860 through Metro PCS which I just upgraded to 2.2.2 I got a google music invite (cool) but when I try to download the app through the Android Market, I am getting a message saying my phone is not compatible. I contacted the Music Beta Team is the answer I recieved was that the app needs 2.2 and above with OpenGL2.0. I am really a novice when it comes to this. Any idea what the OpenGL2.0 is and how/if I can get this on my phone? Thanks in advance

OpenGL helps process the graphics. Might just to find it from another source and sideload it.

try google the .apk file and move it to your sdcard and install it.

sorry only for metro but it sucks, but if you want 2.2 go with cm6, it better and faster than stock will ever be or an official update.

actually opengl is part of the backend on the phone (like linux is) not a apk should be a term cmd that will display its version tho.

Hello I need help with my ascend I tried to do the 2.2 update from the metro AppStore and when it was all finished it just stayed on that screen I can't get it off I tried to do the volume up send and power but it didn't work can sum 1 plz help with any restore anything thanks

I should've just kept the android 2.1 OS on my Ascend, I really don't know what the big difference is, plus after I updated it, the camera settings changed on it and now it takes crappy photos! Has anyone has this problem before or am I the only complaining? I want to remove the Android 2.2.2 so can someone please just walk me through it?? I would appreciate it! Thanks!

the camera will suck no matter what you put on it, but if you want to go back to 2.1 than follow this reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there plug your phone to the computer via usb cable, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

I have an Huawei Ascend from Metro-Pcs. When I got the phone the first thing that I did was update to 2.2 and root it. The phone has worked...well as best as can be expected for a cheap phone. However for the past two weeks I have been having problems with the phone. It constantly says that the launcher has stopped working would i like to -Force Close or -Wait. The only way that I can get the phone to work again is by restarting the phone, and then it only works for short periods before it starts doing it again. I have no idea what is going on with the phone and I cant take it to Metro because its rooted and they wont help me. Can anyone offer some suggestions that may help me?

No one has any advise?

okay so i upgraded my Huawei m860 for Metro a couple days ago. I believed 2.2 would be able to download any apps on the market. because it would say requires 2.2 &up . why does it still say incompatible?

Probably one of two things :

1) Requires 2.3(GINGERBREAD) or,

2) The hardware on the ASCEND will not support certain apps, even when running the required O/S.
One particular app that comes to mind is ADOBE FLASH. This phone will not run it.

Read through the sticky threads in the All Things Root subforum here. It's a real good idea to really check them out, it will give you a much better idea of what you can do, and save yourself a lot of time and frustration in the end.

I am trying to open up the Maps app, on my phone.. But I keep getting the error pop up, that says "The application Maps, has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Then I have to Force Close it. How can I get it to work?

Ok, now I have gone through alot of these pages looking for my question (asked by someone else) Now, I have a custom boot animation and sound file. Now, with the 2.2.2.2.2.2..........Metro update I know it will be deleted. No worries I have the file saved on my computer. I want to know, what new root program do I need to root the phone when I update it and has the location changed for the boot animation file? I dont want to brick my phone or my wifes (she will castrate me quicker than not). Now again, Name of program for rooting, and file location where hence I do update my phone.

Gingerbreak is the new Z4Root (not really, but kinda.)
And don't worry about bricking your phone, won't happen. Worry that you don't do your backups before fiddling around. Think of your unborn children.

the minicanvas.apk was great on the original 2.1 ascend but with the 2.2 update it was gone ! i believe it looked great an want it back .. anyone else also interested in this??
any developers wanna give it a crack and convert it to 2.2 cause as is i dont think it is 2.2 compatible

After upgrading I can no longer use my usb to down load photos to desktop. I remember there was a resident app on the card that handled that and after the upgrade its gone.

Any help would be appreciated.

just connect the usb cable and simply pull down the notification bar and tab usb, and your all done.

Its not the usb connection that is the problem. The problem is there is no files visible when the usb cable is connected, even though I in fact have a gallery of photos that I can email.

never heard that before, when i connect my phone and tap usb mode i get a pop up box to view files on card, like auto start or i can go to computer and open the sd card and go to my DCIM folder where my pic and everything is store to and view/move them.

I can read droid files, but there is no directory for pics. I suppose if I removed the card and plugged directly to my pc it would work.

open file manager in app drawer, scroll down to a folder name DCIM tap it and tap camera for the pics that you take with camera, now if your using a app like lets say 10,000 backgrounds, the app will make its own folder and store whatever pic's you downloaded in that folder.

Well, I did what you most recently said, then connected via usb. This time though all folders showed up when I was connected via usb. Last nite i did the same thing with no luck. Maybe I just needed to go to the file manager the first time to shake things up.

Cricket is not doin a 2.2 update at all.. youll have to do customs roms or buy the ascend 2 ..

I want my phone to run faster and I want to be able to use it as a mobile hotspot. I tried to do it using videos from youtube and through the forum here but I just can't seem to succeed. I already backed up my phone. I've also already downloaded:

z4root (and superuser)
ROM manager
and barnacle.

I used GingerBreak v1.2 but Z4root is basically the same thing. Open it up and hit "Root phone" select permanent or temporary root (I went with permanent ) and let it do its thing. And your phone will reboot once rooted.


I suggest going with 2.3 PlayfulGod's CM 7.2 07282011 is a great build and Im running Bobz's CM7.1RC1-Ascend-BobZ-07082011. Both of them build great ROMs

This is how I do it:
Flash the recovery in ROM manager
Download the ROM you want with the Gapps from PrepaidAndroid.com to your computer
Transfer the ROM, Gapps to your phone
Go into ROM Manager and select "Reboot into recovery"
It will reboot and take you into clockwork recovery
Then choose "Wipe data/factory reset" and click yes
hit back and go one down to "Wipe cache partition" select yes
hit back again and go down to "Advanced" and select "Wipe Dalvik" and select yes
Hit back again and go to "Mounts and storage"
Select "Format boot" yes and click back
"Format system" yes, back
"Format data" yes, back
"Format cache" yes, back
Hit back again to go back to the main menu
Select "Install zip from sd" and flash the ROM
Once thats done Flash the Gapps
Hit back to go to the main menu and select "Advance" and go down to "Fix Permissions"
Then back to the main and "select reboot phone"

And bam youre done.


Oh also I like Wireless Tether for Root Users better then Barnacle

Running 2.2, cwm 3.0, rooted and tooted....went into rom manager and attempted to create a partition on the sd for apps, phone restarted and huawei white logo came up, and now it wont go away. Took battery out for a minute and still stuck. Tried to do recovery (vol up+send+power) and nothing. And this is where i need help from the fine people on this forum on what to do next

You do know when you partition your SD it wipes everything on your SD and you have to reload the zip files and gapps and reflash. So you have nothing on your SD for it to reboot too.

Sounds like you're gonna need to re-flash CWM RECOVERY,since you can't get it to appear using the three button method.
Just make sure that you are pressing the buttons in the proper sequence & holding them long enough to verify that CWM is no longer on your phone.

1) Press volume up
2) Press call button
3) Press power button

Full instructions for installing CWM RECOVERY are listed in the ULTIMATE ASCEND CUSTOMIZATION GUIDE.The guide lists 2.5.1.8,but,the steps are the same,regardless of which recovery you use.
Then,use your PC to install a ROM & the associated GAPPS per the same Guide listed above.
Let us know how you're progressing.

Is it safe to flash a ROM since you upgraded to the 2.2 upgrade? Yes you can. I had the 2.2 update and flashed to PlayfulGod's CM 7.2 07282011 and then switched to BobZ's CM 7.1 07082011. Main reason I switched was I can overclock Bobz's build to 729mhz and PG's only over clocks to 710Mhz. Both are great builds.

thank you im still ansy about doing the upgrade i just dont want to mess up my phone im not a noob but im always double and triple checking everything (thanks to every one on here for all the help) it a shame the people at metro pcs dont know as much as you guys know now if we can get them to get the 3 g going we will be all set

3G good luck after I read your comment this morning I went and checked just how fast the 3g is with metro lets just say a dial up connection to the interweb is faster I can also say a old 14.4k modem is faster than metro's 3g network which clocked in at a even 14kbps lighting speeds aye, the good news is that 14k is up from the 10kbps I had a month ago.

I would search the Ascend forums for "change theme" or something of the like. I prefer to check "Show Posts" before hitting the search button to narrow my results. I know this question has been asked several times before, but I've never fiddled with it myself.

For a new keyboard, search the market, there are several to choose from. (I'm a SwiftKey X fan myself, but I'm probably in the minority there.)

cricket...So today I went into my settings then sdcard update and it started unpacking something and I thought is was 2.2. after my phone rebooted it was all back to my stock settings. I couldnt understand why. However I had a dload update packagein my sd card and im asuming that it reloaded that. So now its back to square1. I wanna flash to whatever is better then 2.1 lol. Anythoughts to what is gonna give me the best performance? 1 of my main concerns is after a year of doing all types of stuff on this phone I have so much stuff in my memory card and I would like to free up the memory but dont kno if theres certain things I will need or can get rid of. cm6 or cm7, but if you load cm7 make sure your sdcard is partition in recovery and make sure you have a class 4 or higher for faster performance cause your dalvik will also be move to the sd card, but you can always move it back to the phone threw TE.
