I partition mine on my computer. You may be able to just repartition in CWR. I dont know. Yeah anybody Ive ever came across that has ever gone over 64 or sometimes went with 64 has ended up with some major sd card issues.

Hello forum. I need help with a problem I am having with my huawei ascend 2.2. It is rooted. I wanted to change the boot animation and sound. I succeeded with the animation, but am having a lot of problems with the sound. I went to /system/media/audio/ui and moved the bootStrapSound.ogg elsewhere. I then got the mp3 that I wanted it to play and converted it to .ogg. I know that the phone can play it because I was able to listen to it in music. I then renamed it to bootStrapSound.ogg and moved it to /system/media/audio/ui successfully. I booted up and the HTC thunderbolt animation I had assigned played well, but there was no sound. It is about 52 seconds long and just a bit under a MB. I do not know if that has anything to do, but after searching various threads and forums I was not able to find an answer. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or give me advice?

On stock I believe you have to put the sound file in data/local

I just copied the ogg to /data/local and rebooted, but still no luck. Is there another approach I can take? I am going to try to replace it by the Droid robotic voice and put it in both and see what happens...

After I upgraded to 2.2 (Metro PCS) the "bootanimation.zip" needs to go into the following location, I used root explorer.
cust/metropcs/us/media
The sound file goes to the same place.
Now I have a cool startup sequence, thanks 2 U.
I tried it but it didn't work.... I saved it under /data/local. As bootStrapSound.mp3. It was the mp3 version of it. Is there any chance my boot system might be corrupt?

If you go to PG's build, it goes in that ui folder. Put it in the ui folder in mp3 format and name it so it says android_audio.mp3 But if you want the Droid sound it already has it. So just change the boot animation which is in the system>media folder

Okay, I must be dense but I can't get z4root to work. I have a stock Ascend with 2.2.2. I run z4root for a permenant root and it runs the exploit then tries to acquire shell and then it dumps out to the file manager or the apps drawer. I try again and I am back to square one. I have debug on. The apk is in the SD root. I uninstall Lookout and extended controlin case it is blocking. I have tried to stop most of the apps. No luck!
I need this to install another language. Any ideas of what I have done wrong. Also my apologies but I did not see this inthreads.

Finally?
If anyone actually cares @ this point in time,I just left my local CRICKET dealer & was told that there was an official update to 2.2 FROYO available, via visiting a corporate CRICKET Location.
Anyone out there that can verify?

What? They decide to do an update AFTER they stop selling the phone? Lol. If this is true, Cricket has truly lost their minds. And a Froyo update when Ice Cream Sandwich is ready to come out? Classic.
Cricket Huawei Ascend:$129
Cricket Android plan:$55/month
Cricket giving the Ascend a Froyo update when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out next month: priceless

People of the huawei ascend user world... if you have Metro PCS and want to upgrade from Android 2.1 to 2.2 all you have to do is go to your apps and touch on the "App Store" app and then just type in huawei ascend upgrade. Download the software and tap install. Make sure that your battery is fully charged. It's that simple.

+1( .2.2.2...... :P )
I couldn't agree more.
An upgrade to 2.2@ this juncture = receiving a CHRISTMAS GIFT in JANUARY after you went & bought what you wanted yourself.
Whether this is true or not,the sentiment is NOT appreciated.

when (if) will the ICS Ice cream sandwich be available for my huawei ascend m 860?
thanks eto
Seeing as how the phone is no longer officially supported, you're going to have to count on the good people of the CM team. Therefore, never ask for ETAs. We're fortunate enough to have Gingerbread on the Ascend. We can only hope for ICS.

I think CM9 (ics) would be possible. The problem is finding a dev who would be willing to work on this phone anymore.
I think the latest sw on my huawei ascend is froyo 2.3?

Why did they drop support? I like huawei, may not have a snazzy gpu but thats ok.

What are the updates/improvements with gingerbread?

how do i get gingerbread?
Froyo is 2.2
They don't support it because they have newer, better phones that they want you (the consumer) to buy.
CM7 (Gingerbread/2.3) is just better IMO. I don't know specifically what has changed, just faster, with more functionality.
ok for a newbie/dummy, who barely got the froyo upgrade from an authorized update metro pcs source installed ok, what is the procedure to get gingerbread on to my huawei ascend?
I have not yet rooted my huawei, is that required to get the gingerbread update/upgrade?

Yeah. It can seem a little hairy, but there is plenty of support here. Look through the Ultimate Ascend Customization Guide sticky in the Ascend - All Things Root subforum. Basically, it goes like this...
Root your phone
Install Clockwork Mod Recovery (CWM)
Backup everything, that is grabbing AntTek or Titanium Backup and backing up your apps, and performing a nandroid (complete system) backup with CWM
Partition your sdcard to 512 with 32 swap after copying your entire card to your computer (not necessary, but highly advised)
Flash CyanogenMod 7 (CM7), Google Apps (gapps), and (after a reboot) the MetroPCS mms fix (metroff)
CM7 is the custom 2.3 ROM for the Ascend. Personally, I would recommend using the CWM 3.0.2.8, gapps 20110613 and CM7 09132011 (defaulted to 710) found in the Handy Ascend Download Links sticky in this forum. But that could be a little debatable.

Hi I'm new here and was wondering if anyone could help answering some questions I have about updating an Ascend to 2.2
I was given a MetroPCS Huawei Ascend recently by a family who doesn't know anything about using touchscreen/smart phones.
The phone needs to be updated but MetroPCS doesn't support the firmware update anymore. The app that initiates the update still shows up in the App Store but doesn't do anything when you try to download it.
Now fortunately I was able to find the FroYo 2.2 firmware (specifically for Metropcs's Huawei Ascend) online but I'm not familiar with how to update via computer/USB.
I've searched but couldn't find a step by step guide, if anyone is willing to share one or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
So i rooted my huawei m860,and was messing around with my phone, and now theres no appps at all on my phone, all i can get to is the dialer, thats it or it will stay stuck on metropcs screen. Please anyone have any idea on how to fix my phone, really appreciate it.
Hey I'm new here I'm running 2.2.2 and I just tried that link it downloaded but I opened it and it said there is a problem with some sort of parsing. Did I do anything wrong?
The Huawei Ascend is MetroPCS and Cricket's extremely affordable Android handset, coming in at $150 off-contract. For that kind of money, don't expect much in terms of bang for buck. You'll get a 3.5 inch HVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel c... Read More
