Question Just got this phone -- Can't turn the volume down

I just got this phone today and am already having problems. It seems that I can't turn the volume down. I can turn it up, but when I press the - it does nothing. Is it broken?

I press the + and it makes a tink sound and brings up the volume, but when I press - it does nothing.

Also, how do I make it so my phone doesn't vibrate for every letter on the keyboard I press?

Seems defective. Check with the store you got it at.
The keyboard sound will be in the keyboards settings. Setting/ language and keyboards/ swype (or your preferred keyboard.

You should be able to exchange it, no problem, just be sure to get a NEW phone and not a "new" phone.

I ordered this from the Metro PCS website.

I'd say that's a factory defect. If you don't want to go through the trouble of getting a replacement, I would suggest downloading just about any volume control app, as you will be able to adjust it from there. Here's one as an example:

Volume Control +

Aside from that. Every picture from the internet I try to save it says "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." Any ideas?

I downloaded that and it's now on my screen or whatever, but I don't understand how this will help me when I am doing something like watching a Youtube video and want to turn down the volume.

Just try to hold it down firmly, Making sure your finger is as far to the bottom of the volume key as possible. As for the turning off vibration just go into Settings > Language and Keyboard settings > Android keyboard > Uncheck the Vibrate on keypress. Also if you use Swype go into that and also uncheck the Vibrate on keypress option as well if you don't want it to vibrate as you are texting. ^^.

Not even this works anymore. I am going to have to return it. Ugh. I have a feeling they are all the same though and I will get another with this problem.

Hi, please do yourself a favor and swap it for another device. Thank you.
BTW, I just got my Ascend last week and I don't have the problem you posted about.

A few people I know with Ascends have to press the very bottom of the volume button. Like at the very very tip of the end. See if that works, It can't hurt to try right. ^^. Plus I stated how to turn off the vibration feedback. ^^. Sorry, Thanks!

I would have done it before this thread was created. I wouldn't want any imperfection with anything I just bought.

I bought it off the Metro PCS website. Before I realized this problem can't be fixed, the store closed.

X.x Just having to press the bottom part is. To be honest though, It's the same way with my Optimus. If I press too high up on the down part it doesn't do anything. Don't know if this is a major issue, It just sounds like your phone is one of the few with defects. I tend to avoid buying things like this off websites as I've always encountered problems with them. Then again, I'm just a weirdo. LOL. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

All I know is that I can press the + and it doesn't matter how I do it, it just works, and makes the volume go up, but no matter how I press - it won't respond and turn the volume down.

It RANDOMLY works if I press it super hard but it's random and rarely works. I don't get it.

If all Ascend phones are like this I'm sad

I wouldn't say this is necessarily a "common problem" since I haven't heard of many people with the issue. My wife and I both have Ascends, and neither of us have a problem with ours. I will note, however, that if you buy one of those covers for the Ascend from MetroPCS, sometimes it can be hard to press the buttons just right.

So you can press the - part of the rocker any which way and it turns it down no problems?

G made a great statement too. Sometimes the covers DO affect the way the volume buttons work! That makes a lot of sense considering that I use a cover on both my Ascend and Optimus. Wasn't even thinking about it being the covers fault! *Hugglejumps G*

Gunna ask more questions because despite the broken volume button, I like the phone so far.

1) How do I text while on the internet when I don't have a pending message in notifications?

2) Why every time I click to go on the internet it's at the page I was on when I closed out the last time? I'd prefer it to open up and be new and such.

Trying to think of more questions.....

You can exchange it at a store right? Make sure you do the cute pouty face at the Metro store you go to, Perhaps they will throw in a free accessory for you and all won't have been lost. Make sure to play the disappointed client! (Gosh I'm bad, I got a free case with both phones I've bought from Metro). XD

But, I do know that instead of just pressing the hang up button to leave the browser you should find the place where it says "Exit" (Press menu > More > Scroll down to exit). I believe when you bring it back up the next time, It will bring up the homepage. Did you turn off the vibration feedback (Your earlier question)?

Thanks! I exited completely. I didn't know how to before lol.

And yes the vibration stopped, thank you!

Unless I receive the text message through notifications, I can't seem to access it. I always have to leave the web first. Perhaps someone else can figure this out? Anyone?

Nooooooooo please say it isn't sooooooooooo!

Wait, actually that's okay since I can close out the internet and then be on the same page when I reopen it if I want. On my other phone texting on the internet was impossible.

OOOOOOO also. I downloaded LauncherPro, and can't seem to find it in my apps anywhere! But it's running since everything looks different. Why can't I find it?

Wait, actually that's okay since I can close out the internet and then be on the same page when I reopen it if I want. On my other phone texting on the internet was impossible.

POS Samsung Messager II.
It's not that bad! Besides, If you are texting you aren't really looking at the internet as the text box will take up the whole screen anyways!

From the Home screen, hit MENU > PREFERENCES.

Some of us also like GoLauncher EX, so...

If you want to remove LauncherPro for whatever reason, go to SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > MANAGE APPLICATIONS.

Hey... just so you know if you're fixin to return that phone, WATCH YOUR TALK TIME. Metro won't take it back if it has an hour or more of talk time on it, so keep your calls short til you get the replacement.

I am having a hard time trying to find apps I have installed.

I installed Google Maps and Angry Birds and I can't find them in applications or anywhere. I check the Android Market and it says Installed for both of them.

I will, but I can't exactly take it back in the middle of the night lol, so I am playing with it.

This is a great phone especially for the price! I know you want to play with it but remember you'll have to redo everything you do tonight.
This is a great forum and you'll get all the help you need.

It just occurred to me... most media players (even YouTube) have built in volume sliders.

I have a case on my phone, and the volume buttons work fine. I can push the rocker almost in the middle any it still works. Definitely sounds like you just got a bad one. Don't let it sour you on the ascend its a great phone for the $.

The talk time limit shouldn't apply if it's a warranty issue, I don't think.

100 hours or less of talk time. Else they won't let you return it. A Metro Sales Rep told me that once when I asked about it.
