I just did a Hard Reset on my Huawei Ascend (Cricket). The phone is rooted with Z4root. I did a backup restore with Titanium Backup. This is all because I accidentally deleted Gtalk. Everything is working fine now EXCEPT when I plug my phone into the computer via USB, it does not show up at all. Any ideas?

Does your phone recognise that is plugged in?

I am using Windows 7 and the usb cord that came with the phone. It used to show up as a removable
Drive but since the hard reset, it does not show up. The phone still charges. Is there a way to remount
The phone? What am i missing here?
The sd card is fine. I even unmounted then remounted it. I can view the internal and sd card with file manager. Us there any software i may need to install? I'm not sure if i had to install any when i bought the phone. Could.be i have to reinstall something for the computer to recognise my phone since it was reset? I have not changed any settings on my laptop.

I have the same problem, the only way I can workaround it, is to unmount the sd, eject the sd( I don't take it all the way out, just enough to separate the contacts), plug the cell back into the computer ( it will show up as a removable drive), click on it. Open PC options, remount sd, then click file transfer. On computer, go up to my computer, and you should see cell as a removable drive.

But you can't transfer data to and from your sd card that way.
Have you checked to see if its listed in hardware on your laptop?
The phone has the drivers installed and a hard reset wont change compatibiliy.
So I plugged it in to the computer and it shows up as a CD Drive (F) NOT Removable Drive. When I click on the CD Drive (F) it says insert a CD into the drive. Weird! Why is it showing up as an Optical Drive? And also I dont get the popup to choose USB Transfer, etc. When I click on Properties in Windows 7 (It is showing up as ANDROID MOBILE ADAPTER) it gives me the option to set modem properties. So it sees the android as an optical drive with modem capabilities. HUMMM?!?

You have to unmount, and eject the sd first . Then follow those steps, and yes you can move files to the sd from computer, and back, great for deleting trash files too.
I use winXp, so I don't have the drm that the later os's have, so I can't say for sure if that has anything to do with your problems. Did you install the usb drivers?

I will try this when i get home. I'll post back if this works.
Cricket's( or huawei's) software comes on the internal memory in phone. There's a usb folder in there to install usb drivers, after they're in, open pc options, a rectangular window will pop up with file transfer in the middle, click that, then go to my computer, and you will see removable drive( sometimes I see two drives, but not all the time), the drive may not say huawei, but not a big deal, as long as it opens to your sd card contents. I SCREWED my instant plug in options, the second week I had the phone, by foolishly reformatting the sd, the only way i can get it back is to revert to stock. I'm too far along to want to do that, I like my setup. If anybody has any ideas, without rinsing, and repeating my phone, please post!

This did not work. Even without the sd card in the phone still shows up as a CD ROM drive. How frustrating.

Where is this USB folder? I have never seen it. I think I need to re-install these drivers.

I'm new to this forum, so go easy on me please!
The Ascend cellphone seems to have an internal memory that has been divided. One part of the memory is the Internal phone storage (system, data, etc) and the other part is an Internal SD card (pc options, android drivers, manual).
So, it looks like the hard reset deleted the Internal SD card content and so it will show in your computer as an empty CD drive, also since the PC options are not there, there's no way for you to select the "File Transfer" option.
One way that might get you access to the SD card files might be by touching "USB connect (select to copy files to/from your computer)" from the notification bar tho.
Sounds like u know something, I wouldn't have figured that they might have partitioned the internal memory, if he lost that one area, he won't have the software. The only way he can get it back is to revert the phone to stock, or replace it( preferred).
I never did a hard reset on my phone, maybe that's why I still have the software, so I think I somehow by reformatting the sd, I broke a link to that area, just enough to create the problem I have. Thankfully it wasn't fatal to that function.

well that's what i've seen with my ascend phone.
true... those might be the only 2 solutions (besides the option to mount the SD card in the notification bar)
So, just in case anyone wants to know how to restore to stock setup follow those instructions (I've done it):

That sounds like a problem with the SD card and the phone, but if the sd card works with the phone as it should (accessing music, pix, etc) then it might be windows having the problem.
Have you tried plugging the USB cord into another USB port in the computer?
Or maybe you changed the USB Mass Storage settings to "disable"? (Settings > General Info & Options > USB Mass Storage)

I tried this. On my phone it will show that there is no contents on the SD card.
If the internal memory is partitioned (split into two seprate sections), and you lost the one with the connecting software, maybe flashing it back to stock may fix it, found out with links2sd, that it couldn't find a second partition on my sd, the only problem I have, is if it means on the internal sd, or my sd card.

So, let me get this straight!
you're phone sees content in your SD card? (music, pix, videos, etc)
but your computer doesn't shows any content in the SD card (not the CD drive)?
and just to clarify, there's are 2 "SD Cards" the Internla SD Card = CD with drivers, manual and there is the SD card = removable card (music, videos, etc)

Doing that would be the same as installing the stock ROM on your phone, I mean, if you really want Icarus, go for it!! I haven't install it my self, but I got Android 2.2.1 on my ascend right now

Have you ever tried using another SD card? or at least removing the card and placing it back in? maybe taking the SD card from the phone and put it directly into the computer? how about (if you have one) place the card in another phone and connect it to the computer?

I had to flash back to stock ROM before and I got the Internal SC card content back in place.
This is the second time that I install Android 2.2.1 on my Ascend, and it removes the content of the Internal SD card (drivers, manual) so now i have an empty CD drive on my PC but if I want to get access to the SD card I go through the notification bar option.

that would be because the available froyo update has three major bugs, no camera, mms, or usb mounting.

My computer doesnt even see the contents on my phone. It shows up as a cd rom drive and when i try to open it, it says insert disk.

I'm not sure what ROM are you talking about. I got my cam working (with more features than Stock ROM) the MMS works perfect (fixed using QPST) and USB mounting is at my fingertips on the notification bar!

Do me a favor and just follow this instructions.
Remove the SD card from your phone and connect your phone to the computer BUT in a different USB port! Do you get the same CD drive???
If so.. place the SD card back in the phone (NO, dont unplug it or turn it off), do you get a notification on your phone saying it's getting the SD ready?
If you do, look into the notifications bar and click the option to mount the SD for file transfer. Does the CD drive goes away and a Removable drive becomes available?

The CD Drive does go away but no removable drive ever pops up.

while having your cell connected to the computer, go to the "device manager" (right click "my computer", click "manage", click "device manager")
and see if there is a "usb mass storage" entry with an exclamation mark (!)on it, if there's one, right click on it and "uninstall" it.
unplug your phone and reboot the computer.
once the computer is up and ready, plug-in your phone, go to the notification bar and select the usb connection. your computer should find a new usb mass storage device now.
When my computer first couldnt see the contents of the sd, i got that far, and could see a removable drive, but it wouldn't open, kept saying it wasn't a compatible operating system.
So, the post that I did earlier, was the only way that I got it to work, But I forgot why I decided to take the sd out, before I connected to the computer.
