Tonight my phone started beeping nonstop. sounds like the noise your home phone makes when you leave the handset on after the call is over. I tried turning the phone off/on and no change, thought it might be a low battery thing but it still is doing it now that its on the charger (42%). tried making a call using the dialer and it stops while your on your call but then starts up again when the call is over. adjusting the volume doesn't effect the beeping at all, even changing it to silent mode doesn't help.
I have Rooted the phone and installed Go launcher Ex. Other then that the phone is basicly stock.

I have been able to get it to stop by removing the battery. it started last night. I removed the battery and everything was fine untill it started again tonight.

Have you installed any new apps lately? if so try removing them one by one until it stops.

Got pissed and started all over. Totally reinstalled the stock software and started fresh. now I am busy trying to get it set up back how I liked it. hopefully this fixed the problem.
At least this time I know a little more about what I am doing and what I do and don't want.

I had a battery app called BatterMinder that would start beeping if the battery dropped below 30% which mine does frequently, and for some reason even during charge, and after it would be fully charged it would keep beeping even if i turned the app off, and or cleared the cache for it. I just uninstalled the app and it took care of the problem

good deal...might as well leave them battery apps alone, can do more harm than good...
Well, its still doing it, guess I will have to take it back. I don't have any battery apps and the battery was full this last time. Seems like it does this like clockwork, every evening.

Whats should I expect returning this to cricket?
first flash it back to stock before doing anything else, and see if the problem still there or not, if so than sounds like a defective device...but phone has to be stock with all apps and unrooted, but once you flash the recovery it will take care of all that, well the unroot part and any deleted apps you may have removed.

Agree..
If your taking it back to Cricket or Metro and expecting them to do something it better be full stock. Of course you should flash it back to stock and see if that takes care of the beeping issue. Maybe you deleted something that the system is looking for.

That's exactly what it sounds like to me.If it walks like a duck............. :P
He did say it does it every evening like clockwork and it stops when he's on a call... Lol. But I'm sure he must have thought of that already. (I hope so, anyway)
Wouldn't it be funny if he just accidentally set the alarm clock or a calendar notification or something? lol

It may have been the case when this problem started, but it has been flashed to stock and it still happens and is getting worse. Pulling the battery did not help this last time. I am flashing it to stock once again and I am leaving it stock for a while and see if it still has this issue.

let us know how it goes, cause someone else might have this problem in the future.

That's sometimes the best way to troubleshoot, especially if you haven't kept track of when you did exactly what to your phone. If its an app problem,it'll rear its ugly head once more as soon as you load it up again.
i've been having the same problem. i've had the phone for a total of four days now, and it's been doing it for three. the chick at the cricket store said i couldn't return it unless i got the warranty, but i think the law says otherwise. gonna' try a new one and hope it's just that particular phone. this is the only thread i've found anywhere that described my problem.
EDIT: phone's never been modded, and the only apps i've installed are facebook and text-to-speech.
ANOTHER EDIT: a friend told me that certain phones make that noise when they're overheating, but it doesn't seem hot to the touch.

you have a 1 year warranty with you provider, they can change it out, she was just being a smarty pants.
well i called huawei's tech support and they told me the same thing, and that they'd never heard of anyone having this sort of issue. the op didn't mention it, but at least in my case the noise is coming from the earpiece and not the external speaker, which in my mind would eliminate the possibility of it being an alarm of any sort.
I have the exact same phone and it's doing the same thing. Then last night it reset itself and now you cant even adjust the time on it for the time zone I am in and the beeping has been worse. I have had this phone only 2 weeks now and it's a piece of shit and the cricket people here are not helpful at all and to top it off they have been extremly rude. Any help in solving this beeping issue would be greatly appreciated

For any of you having this problem, 1st make sure your phone is no longer rooted, and returned to full stock even with all the bloatware.
If the phone keeps doing this, then you should return it to the dealer, and exchange it.
Like any electronics it is possible to get a few defective ones out there.
Just got my Ascend hours ago,and I installed my usual apps like facebook, and yahoo messenger, Well as soon as I log into yahoo messenger it starts with this constant "beeping/dinging" noise that will not stop unless I reboot the phone. I checked all the settings for yahoo, but nothing seems to stop it. Everything else works fine, untill I start yahoo, this noise even continues during a phone call. PLease help!!

It is the app, I had the same problem with the messenger app. I had to always have my phone on silent if I was using the app, however once I switched to CM6 I no longer have this problem, so unistall the app, or upgrade to Cm6.

Agree..it is obviously the app. So you will need to root your phone, install CWM, and upgrade to CM6/7 to get rid of this problem, or get rid of the App.
Funny how you said earlier that it was stock, and we asked you what apps you have installed and you said nothing. Now you have recieved a new ascend, and you admit you installed Apps, and are now aware of what app is causing the problem.

You have to put the phone in 'AIRPLANE MODE' to adjust for the time zone.Just make sure to take the phone out of 'AIRPLANE MODE' once you're done.

Not the same person. That was nakedlunch02's first post.
I still haven't taken back my phone, just been rebooting everytime it starts beeping.
Thinking about going to CM6 and seeing if that changes anything before taking it back. Kinda want to play around with it some more.
Besides it never messes up when its a good time to take it back. Don't want to try and take it back when it isn't doing anything wrong.
[edit] 6/18 decided to try Icarus Mod first then I might try out going to CM6.
[2nd edit] 6/18 Icarus Mod didn't help, phone is going back.
[third edit] 6/20 Took it back to the store, they did a *288 or something like that and told me if it is still acting up I have to take it back to a corporate store. Its been 24hours and it hasn't acted up yet. probably will right after I get done posting this. I don't have a car so it makes taking it back difficult, but I am going out with my Sis on Thursday if it acts up it will go back then.
[4th edit]48hours and still no beeping. going to go back to icarus mod tonight.

After more than 48 hours of no problems the phone started beeping once more. Phone will be going back on Thursday.
[edit] Tried taking the phone back but they woudn't exchange it. Something about the problem is with the network and not with the phones. Yet only some phones have the problem and not all of them. IDK, the beeping is getting less and less frequent. its now more than 48 hours between problems. i guess I can live with that untill its fixed.

Mine has done this randomly as well. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. I just restart it and it's fine. Maybe have run into it or noticed it 4 times over the 3 or 4 months I've had the phone.
Mine did something like this last week. The sound/noise was like one of those cheap alarm clocks. We had just got off the elevator at the hotel, and it sounded like an alarm clock in the room next to us was on. We didn't think anything of it until we got back on the elivator and realived the sound was following us.
I have a leather case that was muffling the sound. Didn't check to see if it was the speaker or ear piece. Checked to see if I was off-the-hook, nope. checked to see if I had set an alarm, nope. Made sure there wasn't any apps running that could be causing it, nope. So I restarted the phone and all has been good since, hope it stays that way.
I'm having the same problem with my charge. So far it has only happened when connected via USB. I read somewhere that it may have something to do with a custom notification sound.
It sounds exactly like a cheap alarm clock. I've found that if I select "Clear Memory" from Samsung's stock task manager, it causes the beeping to stop.
disable any alarm notifications that you have on the alarm clock, also if you have soundback uninstall and reboot the phone and see if the problem change.
The Huawei Ascend is MetroPCS and Cricket's extremely affordable Android handset, coming in at $150 off-contract. For that kind of money, don't expect much in terms of bang for buck. You'll get a 3.5 inch HVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel c... Read More
