Phone won't charge/battery drains while on charger

I've recently found myself having quite a few problems with my Ascend, and I'm not sure what is causing them. It started off a few days ago when I found that it would almost never charge when plugged into the charger. I figured there may have been a problem with the charger connecting to the phone, so I bought a new charger that seems to fit, but is also having trouble making a connection.

That led me to believe that maybe the charge port thing on the actual phone is broken. However, when I plugged it in to charge last night, it was at about 60%, and within a few minutes, the battery plummeted down to about 6%, then continued to go up and down. The battery icon is currently red, and says that the battery is 13% charged. Putting it on the charger, when it does register as "charging", does not seem to help it charge.

I've tried turning the phone off and back on a few times to see if it was some sort of display issue, but it still states that the battery is low. I'm not sure what the issue is or how I should go about getting it fixed, but if anyone has any ideas, they would be appreciated!

Have you tried pulling the battery out for 10+ seconds, then putting it back in?

Only other thing I could think of is you need a new battery. Cricket/Metro may give you a free replacement if you recently got the phone and can convince them it's defective.

Tried it and turned it back on, battery was at zero so I plugged it in, and it proceeded to charge to 2%, not register that it was plugged in, and turn off. I tried turning it back on after plugging it in again, but all it did was blink the lights on the bottom a few times and then stop. Now it's not even doing that. I think I'll probably take it into the store tomorrow and see what happens. Thank you for your reply.

sounds like a device defect and needs replacing, plenty of youtube videos on this issue, but might also be the battery.

Get an external battery charger. The kind you take the battery out and put in the charger. You will need two batteries so one can be used while the other is charging. A lot of phones have this problem. People usually just get new phones, I wonder if thats what they want us to do.
