Question My ascend not rooting with gingerbreak

Okay well I have searched a lot on this issue and I need help. When I first updated to 2.2.2 official update I tried z4root (which did not work of course) now onto the case of gingerbreak when I use this (usb debugging is on) it just sits there trying to root but never does. I have tried at least 25 times with versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 none with any success. Now I want to know if there are any other ways to root my ascend on the computer an apk or something or if I should give up hope of rooting my ascend ever again. (i was rooted on 2.1) thank you to anyone that tries to help or gives me any information on this problem.

There seems to be an issue with rooting 2.2 if you already rooted on 2.1. Only solution I've found is flashing back to stock, install CWM, and flash a custom rom.

Hmm... How safe is the flash back to stock process? I don't want try it and be completely screwed if it doesn't work. I mean I know you put it into fastboot mode run the files and it should restart but what are the odds that it wont work? also when I was on 2.1 cwm stopped really working if I were to flash back would it fix those problems? (CWM kept freezing when I tried to install any version of cm7.) Kind of want to find out if there is really any point in doing it. lol. But, thank you for telling me that I need to stop trying to root the device. lol.

Flashing back to stock is really safe. The only issue you may come across is getting a bad download, in which case you simply redownload the file(s) you need and try again. I've flashed back to stock dozens of times.

Also, you'll need to reinstall CWM after flashing back to stock.

thanks guy. flash back to stock was simple no problems at all. i had downloaded all the "handy" ascend downloads ahead of time just in case these type of things happened. so i think I'm going to get playfulgods 2.2.2 rooted.

I highly recommend PlayfulMod if you want to stay close to stock, but be able to debloat and have a better-than-stock Ascend. I used it for a month or two, and it was rock solid, not to mention that DT's a2sd has also been integrated, which means you can install a literal ton of apps, which I have done across multiple Ascend ROMs while I had mine.

SuperOneClick was also the only thing that rooted my 2.2.2 Ascend---neither z4root nor gingerbreak worked for me. More links:

The Huawei Ascend is MetroPCS and Cricket's extremely affordable Android handset, coming in at $150 off-contract. For that kind of money, don't expect much in terms of bang for buck. You'll get a 3.5 inch HVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel c... Read More
