Hi all!

I recently rooted my Huawei Ascend M860 and then upgraded to 2.3.6 and all went smoothly until I tried resync'ing my Contacts. I sync'd them to my Google/Gmail account and then went to resync them after the upgrade and all it sync'd was a couple of emails...no phone numbers or anything else.

Am I out of luck? What did I do wrong? I know now I should have exported them to the SD card, but thought sync'ing was good enough...live and let learn I guess...

I did perform the backup of the system before I installed the new ROM, would contacts be in there, and if so, how would I recover them?

On the bright side I went from OS 2.1 to 2.3.6 and have noticed a big increase in speed

Which ROM did you flash? As far as I know,development for this phone stopped @ CM7 (ANDROID 2.3.4 or 2.3.5).

Anyway,if your contacts were linked to GOOGLE,I can't think of a reason as to why your phone #'s aren't showing up.

I'll dust off the ol' ASCEND when I get home later this evening & see if there's something I can find to help locate your contacts.

lol, yeah im a slow starter, and you are right it was to 2.3.4. Only thing I can think of is when I upgraded to Google+ it started my account over...wiping it or something. :/

Alright, well I've given up on retrieving the contacts. I know I hit the sync button, but they're just not there.

A more important issue has arisen dealing with my MMS's not working properly and specifically I'm not able to receive pics in text messages. Yes I could view them fine before. I'm with Cricket and every thing else works fine.

I upgraded using cyan's CM7 version CM7-Ascend-05142011 and now have 2.3.4 on there.

Do I need some other app, maybe a different messenger? I had a pic of my little girl's first day of school sent to me and I couldn't view it (

I'm getting a bit desperate at this point. I sent a pic to myself and that actually worked, but still can't see pics sent from others.

All I get is a gray box that says Download, I click on it and it says Download of message from soandso unsuccessful.

I dialed *228 to reactivate the phone(which worked already) and that didn't help. Any other thoughts?

I just now found my ASCEND,charging it up now as we speak.I'm pretty sure we'll be able to get your contacts to sync,as if I remember,there is a setting within the phone application itself to synchronize contacts.(This may be due to some legalese between CYANOGENMOD & GOOGLE,not sure,as contacts on my MOTOROLA PHOTON ,running stock official 2.3.5, & my GOOGLE CONTACTS synchronize automatically).
My apologies for not getting back to you sooner.As I said,I actually had to look for my ASCEND,I had misplaced it.


If I may make a suggestion,I'd run the latest version of CM7 (CM7.2 09132011) which is an upgrade to ANDROID 2.3.5 & for most ASCEND users,runs much better than the 05142011 update.

OK,now my ASCEND is charged up & the only thing I could find is if you previously stored your contacts to the SD CARD instead of GOOGLE,you may be in luck.

Go to PHONE>CONTACTS>MENU & select IMPORT/EXPORT & select IMPORT FROM SD CARD.Hopefully your contacts are there.

Hi,
Already tried the import from SD card, it didn't work because I never backed them up there..or if i did when I import now it says can't find them.

What I did before was hit accounts/manage accounts click my gmail account and hit sync, i thought this would sync everything to my email but apparently it did not or everything was erased. 0 I know now to 'export to sd card' for next time.

My big concern now is getting my pics in MMS, still can't get it to work

ps. if i update again, it will wipe everything right? i dont really have anything pertinent on there now anyway to backup(just exported my contacts :P) Do you have the link for 7.2?

As for the MMS issues,I wish I had an answer,as SMS/MMS is a bit quirky on the ASCEND/CM7.

I'll go through & search this forum & see if I can find a solution.Speaking of,try looking in the ALL THINGS ROOT section for MMS solutions,if you haven'y already.

I'll be back in a while to report any findings.

I may have a solution for saving MMS .Try out the app DOWNLOAD BLAZER from the GOOGLE PLAY STORE.I use it all the time to download & save attachments from various sources,hopefully it'll work for you.

So, I took your advice and upgraded to the latest C7...and that fixed the issue lol. I have no idea why, but I am now able to receive picture text.

On to the next issue, lol. It seems my PC no longer recognizes the phone except when it is in mass storage mode, whereas I used to be able to get things directly off the phone when it was connected because the PC would recognize it and install drivers. Now when it tries to recognize it, it fails (driver installation fails). Windows update fails as well. Are there specific drivers I need to install for that to happen with this mod?

I think all you have to do for your PC to "see" your phone w/this update is this:
Once you connect your phone to the PC,pull down the notification bar & you should see an option for the PC to see the phone.
I'm not @ home ATM,but,will look @ this later on today.Also,go into SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS> & check the USB de-bugging settings.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice again. The pulldown 'notification bar' allows you to go into USB Mass storage mode which works, but allows for stuff on the SD card only, not the rest of the areas of the phone. I have forensic software that can access these other areas when the PC has the proper drivers installed, but now it seems it no longer has the proper drivers. :/

USB Debugging is checked and this has all worked previously, and I could use the connection both ways: 1. as a phone connected to the pc 2. as a USB mass storage(sd card). I hook it up as a phone device for various reasons with success in the past, but after the update it is a no go.

It's not a huge deal, and I am able to use the SD card for the most part, but I would like to know why the drivers for the stock Ascend would not work now with this mod. (I'm still not sorry I did it, runs much faster )

Try out some of the WI-FI file explorer apps available in the GOOGLE PLAY STORE.There's a bunch of them,but,one that comes to mind that might be exactly what you're looking for is AIR DROID (AIRDROID).
