Default No Google Play

I am using an Huawei Ascend m860. I had this phone connected a few years back and just recently re activated it through cricket.

However the "Android Market" is still on the phone. It is also non functional. It only shows about about 10 apps and i am unable to download any of them successfully.

The phone has never updated to google play. I am nearing the end of my first month of service.

Nothing has interupted Google Talk

Firmware version. 2.1-update1

Default Marketplace isnt Play-store-ing nice hu?

Hum… It’s letting you access apps from the old marketplace but doesn’t let you download any? That doesn’t make sense…

Try this…

Making sure your logged into a gmail account (Settings>Accounts(or Accounts and Sync)) it should show a gmail. If it doesn’t then tap on the “add account”.

Try to use the marketplace. If not proceed to next suggestion:

Update the phone, “Firmware version. 2.1-update1 “means that there is 1 update available and it’s for your Android Operating System. The android 2.1 Éclair is OLD, very OLD. So connect to your WiFi (or a public WiFi) and search for updates again. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO A WIFI BEFORE CHECKING FOR UPDATES. I’m pretty sure Huawei allows OTA (Over The Air) Updates. If not check out their website.

It’s probably going to upgrade to the 2.2 Froyo, maybe even a little higher, make sure you scan again for updates. There might be more than one update for the phone, especially since it’s on such an old OS (Operating System).

Once you update the phone, check again and see if the marketplace transforms into the Play Store. If not proceed to step 3.

Factory Data Reset the phone. Wipe it and make that phone squeaky clean. Should help. Just remember to save everything on the phone before you reset it for obvious reasons.

Do these things and it should start working again.

Good luck, Let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,

~James

Default Status

Well. Truth is i hit the search for updates hundreds of times and nothing ever showed up. Most of these with wifi connected (Any time i am at work i am connected through wifi) so I am 100% on this. "No update available." "Your Device is up to date"

I am connected with a gmail.

I went ahead and attempted to proceed to step 3.

I downloaded the update from one of the threads here for 2.2 (Cricket version)
I attempted to do it via SD and did not work, so i proceeded to hard reset vol up, back, and power. It did a factory reset.

After getting the phone back on and reconnected google, i checked. and I am still running the same version.

However, this time when i did it through the SD it seemed to have worked. Reset again. Checked. Still same version.

Current status is this. Still has android market. However now when i open it, it promts me to agree to the terms and service, which brings up a web page that does not load. (Other web pages load fine.)

How to Flash the Huawei Ascend to Stock is how i brought it back to stock.

Apparently according to this thread. "http://androidforums.com/huawei-ascend/268728-official-discussion-huawei-ascend-2-1-2-2-firmware-upgrade-info-updated-received.html" There has yet to be an official release of 2.2 for the ascend.

Try finding the Market app under manage applications and clear cache and data, and uninstall updates if that option is there. Then it might update to Play.
And you are correct, there was never an update from Cricket. Try CM6 or CM7.

Hum your right… no 2.2 that I could find on their website.

There are two software downloads (one firmware), that you can look into though… did you try the HUAWEI M860 Firmware? I would do both 2011-06-03 and then 2011-11-22 and see if that jogs something loose.

'+'Software'+' - '+'Huawei Device Co., Ltd..'+'

Find by product (Smartphone), Select Product (HUAWEI M860)

As per the terms of service that is what I was looking for… after you agree to that then your marketplace should switch over to the play store. Strange that it won’t load the next page.

Gmash had a good idea about clearing the cache but a true Factory Data reset would have done that already.

What do you mean that you tried it through SD? Like SD card? elaborate for me (I’m tired )

Try another reset, if you’re using a memory card try then take it out and try it without an sd card. Once you do a reset download that firmware update from that link on Huawei. Then the other software download and see if that helps. Worst comes to worse you can always call them direct.

You WILL be out of warranty by date but they could tell you if there is an update that they might be able to force through… you can try your wireless provider too… they might be able to push one through as well.

Keep us updated I want to know how it goes.

OH ONE OTHER THING… CREATE A NEW GMAIL ACCOUNT. Create a brand new gmail account and see if it will work with that one… I don’t know why I didn’t think of that before, it might just be a gmail that doesn’t work right and causing issues.

To remove your original gmail (which you need to do) you need to factory data reset the device, as I’m sure you know.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
