Default 3G on M835

Here is a guide (borrowed from the Ascend threads) on how to update the PRL on the Huawei M835

http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=718949&d=1315954146 <--3022.prl

Install Drivers
On Phone Dial this code
*#*#2846579#*#*
A menu will pop up
Then
Go to projectmenu -- Background Settings -- USB Port -- (select) Manufacture mode

Go to www.checkesnfree.com to get your SPC code with your MEID number from under the battery.

Make sure on Phone USB Debugging is on
Now On Windows go to device manager -- ports and look for DBAdapter Reserved Interface
(Remember your COM PORT)
Run QPST Configuration (located in startmenu -- all programs -- QPST)
Add new port (Add COM port from Device Manager DBADAPTER Interface) ..

Then Go to start client -- service programming

On Service Programming
Go to tab roam
Look for preferred roaming (Browse for the 3022.prl file given )

click read from phone ......
when asked for code enter the MetroPCS SPC number

Then Hit Write To Phone
If Successfull Phone Will Reboot (You will Have 3G icon If in Coverage Areas)

My wife's M835 automatically updated to 3020 a few weeks ago and has been getting 3g ever since. Neither of us have the 3022 yet, but since we already get 3g most places in Jacksonville, I haven't had the temptation to upgrade just yet.

Wait, by applying this the m835 gets 3g on the metro network?

yes, but ONLY IF you have 3g coverage in your area. Metro has been implementing this in select areas and has slowly grown. Some cities have capped speeds, so the 3g isn't all that much better than the 1x we are all used to.

You can look at this thread to see where it is currently, but recently there are reports of 3g in parts of Miami and Atlanta-ish area.

And to edit my previous post, I check the wife's M835 this evening and it looks like it updated automatically to 3022. My Optimus M is still at 3020.

Again, if towers are not around, then the newest PRL won't mean squat.

If it is around, you'll have to give it several minutes.

Hi guys, I'm new here and a 1st time Android user, I've tried to read and learn as much as I can and so far I've been able to root my M835 with Gingerbreak, installed ROM manager, loaded the Ascend recovery image and installed CM7 with no issues. I've downloaded the PRL file and I also have CDMA workshop 2.7 but don't know how to get it to recognize my handset in Windows 7. I read somehwre that there's supposed to be some COM device detected and that's what you use to connect with CDMA workshop but not having luck with that. As a side note I think I can also load the PRL with another program called LGNPST, but I don't know how to install it, let alone configure it so that I can install the PRL to the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Use QPST, to me its easier and a stronger program to use.

Here's the info on how to use:

UPDATE optimus M prl Using QPST

Hey Guys just an FYI, if you're trying to flash your M835 with the new PRL, the computer will not recognize a port for your phone if you just plug it in and put it in debugging mode.

A lot of people have been having problems getting a Huawei phone to appear on a port, so you have to do this first, before plugging in your phone and installing the drivers on the computer

I updated my first post on the thread with a guide on how to do it.

Nice work, I figured that out already a while back, you also need to get the attached driver for the ports to properly work

Yes you do, because you need to access the data folder fully to get the build.prop file for the editing

When I try to do this: On Phone Dial this code *#*#2846579#*#*
That doesn't work on my M835. Is it because of this that I can't get the drivers that Cybertails provided, to work with the detected devices in Win7 ?? I tried this also with WinXP and it won't take the drivers. I configured the phone for Debug mode and unmounted the SD card unmounted before connecting to the USB.

I attached a screenshot of what I see in my device manager for visualization.

Did you dial *#*#2846579#*#*, go to ProjectMenu > Background Setting > Usb Ports Settings and set it to Manufacture Mode? That should make the ports appear

Idk if it's just my phone or maybe cause I'm running CM7 that that code doesn't work on my dialpad ? I'm going to revert back to stock rom to try it out.

It might be, I'm running Stock at the moment due to WiFi Issues with CM7

Yep, it was becasuse of CM7 I would enter the code and nothing would happen. So anyway, I set it to Manufacturer mode and installed those USB drivers from their site, still can't get the ports to be recognized in neither Win7 or WinXP. I keep getting 4 Android Adapter under "Other devices" in Device Manager in both XP and WIn7. I try manually updated the driver and pointing them to the M835 USB driver folder that you gave me first and won't recognize it. Also tried pointing it to ADB driver folder that's on the phone itself and won't take that either. I'm stumped.

Put the phone in manufacture mode, usb debugging, and unmounted the sdcard. I tried installing the driver on the phone, the one cybertail posted, the modemdriver, handheld android device driver from the huawei site, everything. All that shows up on win7 and winxp is the modem driver, not the com port. And I have 4 android adapters on there that can't be recognized. I tried manually pointing them to each driver but none work...

Strange, for when you have the phone plugged in, can to go to the device manager, right-click one of the Unknown Devices from the phone, select Properties, go to Details and Ctrl+C the Hardware ID?

This is a screenshot of my device manager with the android-related devices expanded. The "unkown" devices with no drivers have their hardware ids (each has two) pasted next to them.

Another thing; the Android Modem that's on there is port COM5, found that out by looking through the properties on it. Whenever I connect with CDMA Workshop, it says connected, but the phone stops saying "USB connected" and "USB debugging connected." Then I click "Read" and it says phone does not answer.

Then I can't connect my phone to my pc anymore unless I restart my computer. The same thing happens if I use QPST, and using LGNPST just doesn't work.

EDIT: Has anyone actually had success is manually flashing the new .prl file yet?

I updated in my test m385 with mate35 rom.

I can't check signal on UT as it isn't connected but 3022 is on it.
I actually downgraded to 3019 first, via *228.

When I used qpst no code was needed, I opened com ports and clicked "add port" until my phone showed up.

Also, putting 3022 on before flashing a rom it stays at 3022.

I actually use CDMA Workshop for PRL Manipulation and I haven't tested Mate35 because I'm patiently waiting for a Wi-Fi fix for any M835 Mod

Hey, guys. I'm trying to get the drivers installed that CyberTails linked a while back (M835ModemDriver.zip). But I have a problem. After installing, on the last screen, I get:

Quote:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Driver is not intended for this platform.
I'm running Win7HP 64. I'm wondering if it's that these drivers are 32 and my system is 64.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Never mind, I got it. Now to flash this phone to Cricket!

Default no ports?!

hey guys i connected my m835 with debugging and manufacture mode on. i have a couple of questions. First: how do you install the m835modemdrivers.zip? theres 4 files in there so do you leave it as a zip or extract it? second when i installed some kind of drivers for adb i went to device management and theres no ports section whatsoever... theres no ports only other devices with like 4 android adapters when the phone is in, but no "Ports" tree after that... my internet's been slow lately and i would really like to do this upgrade... please help?

Froyoman v3 worked perfectly for me. It's not gingerbread though.. but it's fast.

Oh, for any other Philly Metro Users, I asked my local Metro (on Sept. 30th) and they said that 3G will be up in a couple of months

Default Thanks and prl 3023

Thank you this was very helpful. I found prl 3023 and installed on phone and 3G baby. The prl 3022 worked to, but it was in and out of 3G.

attached prl 3023. Hope it works in your area.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. Been busy with work and a way to flash my M835 to Cricket since I no longer live in a MetroPCS service area.

If CyberTails drivers don't work (they didn't for me), the ones I have might. These are for Windows 7 64-bit. I tried them on an XP Pro 32-bit system at work and it was obviously a no-go.

After diligent searching on teh Interwebz with many, many dead ends, a site called DriverMax claimed to have the drivers. They did require that I download their program to obtain the drivers. Anywho, I installed the program, then the drivers, and it worked. I'm able to use CMDA Workshop and QPST successfully.

I would add that you manually delete any other drivers or use something like CCLeaner to remove any previously installed drivers you tried from this thread, then install.

Hope this helps!
