No problem. I'm sure some others will respond. There's not a lot of people on here anyway, and a lot of them are busy on the weekends. Now go get your Mercury so we can have another member lol!

They actually have a discount if you order online, but only for new customers. If you don't care about losing your phone number, I think you could just start a new account, though. I would call the number and talk to somebody to make sure they have them in stock first, but they are supposed to have free overnight shipping. Or keep calling the stores everyday. The store near me said they are only getting a few at a time, and they are selling them as fast as they come in. Good luck!
Hi there ... I don't post much but I sure do a lot of reading on the forums I am a former Ascend user ... and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Mercury!!! It is soooo much better period. Oh and I am a CRICKET person all the way!!

Hello, there, welcome to the forums! Now that you're here, don't be shy about posting! It's been too quiet in here lately. Doesn't having the Mercury make you wonder how you tolerated the Ascend for so long? Lol

No kidding. Lol. I was just playing around with my ascend yesterday and I wanted to stick the son of bitch in the garbage disposal. It was ridiculous.

I still mess around with my Ascend sometimes. Its pretty cool that I still get 3G on it. I keep it off or in airplane mode when I'm not using it so it doesn't use any data, plus it seems to interfere with reception when they are both on.

Oh wow, is that what happens? I still have my Ascend on the coffee table and play the games and music and other assorted do dads I have on it.
You mean that even though I switched accounts to my Merc the Ascend still pulls data?
Connect your data cable... On the phone, slide down the notification bar and click "connect usb". Now, just move the jpg to your sdcard. Unmount. Now press Menu, home settings, wallpaper. Locate your jpg, and voila! :-)

Thanks for your reply.
Because I am so new at all of this I don't understand what you are telling me. I didn't get a cable with the phone and even if one came with it I don't see any place to plug it in. When I press the notification symbol at the bottom of the phone I don't see anything about "connect usb". I am not sure where the sdcard is and I don't know how to "unmount". Which button is the "menu" button.

The cable is the same one you use to charge the phone, you take the charger part off and plug the USB end into your computer. Once its plugged in, slide down the notification bar (the part at the top of the screen where the clock, battery icon, and signal bars are). You should see the notification there about connect USB that CanOdope mentioned. The menu button is the one that looks like four lines, second from the left, next to the home button.

Thanks for the information; it got me part way to a solution.
It is now my understanding that my power cable is also my data cable and to “unmount” means to unplug my USB/data cable from my computer.
I was able to move my jpg from my computer to the “download” folder on my phone. I now need help in knowing how to move the jpg from the “download” folder to whatever folder holds the wallpaper selections.

Just noticed the Samsung Indulge is no longer listed. I wonder if it's been discontinued?
I actually did this, ordered one online after there were none in stock a few months ago, and when I was talking to a representative to activate, I just argued the point that a CSR had told me I could do that. What he did was switch the new number to my old Ascend, and my current number to my Mercury. It took an hour of bullshit because he didn't know what he was doing, but it can be done.

Can you see it in your gallery? If so you should be able to just press menu, (on the phone, not the one under the picture), then more, then "set as". If you don't see it in the gallery, look in your apps for the file manager and move it, I think to DCIM should work since you can use any picture in the gallery as a wallpaper.

True that. I usually go to the store rather then call. It's always someone who sounds indian with a fake name who has no Idea what I'm talking about. I asked once where they were located and the rep said Northern New york, so I don't know.
Have u or anyone try speaking to the online helper. Usually when you on the Cricket homepage, (usually when I'm looking at the phones) an online live helper pops up and asks if I need help. I always click no, but I wonder if they are just salesmen, or if they may actually be able to answer some technical questions.

Important thing: Unmount does not mean just yanking the plug out of the computer. When you finish whatever it is you're doing you go back to the USB screen on your phone (which should have turned orange when you pushed the Mount button.
You click Unmount or Disconnect or whatever it is that yours says and the screen should turn back to its original colour.
Then its safe to physically unplug the data cable.

I just bought this phone. I have my 2g SD card from my last phone in the SD card slot, but it wont let me mount anything and says the SD card is not present. What did I do wrong or haven't done? I have fiddled with it countless times, taking in out and putting it back andnothing. Still not available. Help

Welcome to the forum! When you go to settings> storage does it say your SD card is mounted? If it is, try to press unmount and try to mount it again and see if that does anything. If that doesn't work, it might be a problem with your SD card itself.
nevermind, i figured it out looking at another forum. if anyone else needs to know how to do this, let me know, and i will explain it. i am new to the forum here, but will be a regular now!

This is not really a question, but does anyone else feel that the Mercury size at 4 inches is perfect? Until this phone all my androids have been 3.5. Those were nice, but this just feels perfect.
It's the perfect width sideways for videos. Other androids that get wider feel to big. I just always felt this is the most perfect size, but it seems alot of others want bigger considering the the new androids coming out.

I think 4.5" would be more ideal, Friend of mine has the Sprint version of Samsung Galaxy S2 with 4.5" screen and the larger viewing area is nice especially with Games & YouTube, It still easily fits in your pocket as well.

I had a feeling that 4.5 would be mentioned. It seems to be the standard and looks impressive maybe compared to our smaller phones. I agree that it's nice and bigger screens are always better usually.
I just really dig this more. It feels more slick to me. I love the way when turned sideways, looks like a sleek tiny hd tv.
But that's why they make them in all different sizes! We all have different opinions. Except for I-phone ahah.

I also like the 4" screen size, especially the tall and narrow aspect ratio on the Mercury. It's a nice size screen, but the phone still feels small. If you put the Ascend on top of the Mercury, the Ascend is actually a tiny bit wider, even with the 3.5" screen. I could probably go with a 4.3" if it had this same screen ratio, but some of these new phones are going overboard. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is going to be 4.8". The Note is over 5". I don't want to carry a tablet in my pocket all day lol.

Ah! That's the words I was looking for. The tall and narrowness of the phone is what I love about it so much. The 4.5s I have seen are just to wide for my taste, and don't look as slick IMO.
I'm not sure I've seen a 4.3 to make any sort of opinion.
no kidding me too, but since that stupid firmware update that cricket did, my poor mercury is acting like my ascend.
ANYWAY, i have a question that i hope someone can help me with, cricket is NO HELP WHATSOEVER with this...
i am trying to sync my phone with my computer to transfer the music on my computer to my phone. anyone know how to get this to sync?
I couldn't sync mine either and was told it was because I was running XP. I ended up transfering pics and music using a bluetooth file transfer app., couldn't transfer Muve Music though
I also can't get my PC to recognize the mercury as a WIFI hotspot either....if anyone has any info on that it would be great
P.S.
I haven't upgraded to the latest firmware yet...running G.B 2.3 still
XP on the PC (HP)

Wow. I know this is an old post but, I remembered it cause my battery life sucks. I mean I have to charge up my phone every night, even in standby mode. If I didn't touch the phone all day it would still be almost dead at the end of the day. I have an app that shows what is using my power and it pretty much just says mostly standby. Not sure what apps were really sucking the power.
Anyway I never knew about turning that function off, and decided to try it and damn. I can charge once every 3 days, and that's with usage. I appreciate this suggestion. I can live without cnn updates etc.for this kind of battery life!

Is there a way to have music to stop playing so you can answer a call? Whenever i listen to music with headphones it just goes straight to voicemail. Is this just the way Android smartphones work?
I bought the phone in late June and it is absolutely amazing! Blows my old Ascend out of the water.
Hello I'm new to this site so forgive me if I'm on the wrong thread. I've been a cricket customer for a couple years now. Just had the basic $40 a month plan with an LG flip phone. I thought it would be nice to get a smart phone so I could use the GPS so I went online and just ordered the Huawei Mercury from Cellular Deals for $147.00. I know I will need to upgrade my plan to the $55.00 Android plan but How do I activate the new phone when I receive it in a couple days and still keep my phone number. Any help would be appreciated,

Hi, welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new phone! I think you'll like it. When you get your phone, it should have a quick start guide that will tell you how to activate it over the phone. Cricket customer service should be able to walk you through how to keep your number. Of course, you could always just take it to a Cricket store and let them do it, but they'll charge you $15.
Thank you Gmash, I sure hope I like it. I've heard so many mixed reviews about the phone, (You either love it or hate it), then right after I ordered it someone said that they are having problems with a "memory glitch" and cricket had suspended sales on the mercury and were probably going to focus on promoting the Apple instead.

I still don't know what that memory issue was supposed to be, just a "cover their asses" excuse to fix something in the first update if you ask me. Anyway, it was only pulled off the market for a few days and they released a patch for whatever the problem was. Yours should have the update installed when you get it, so you'll be good to go. Let us know how you like it after you get a chance to play with it sure awhile.
I don't want to lose Flash, I want to know if there is a way to stop my phone from updating to Android 4.0? I just got the Mercury and use my smartphones for data almost exclusively. Flash capability has been the biggest reason for my Android love and avoidance of other phones. Without Flash I lose all reason for exclusively buying Android and I lose sooooo much of my browsing capabilities. I remember my first Android phone and how hard it was to surf without Flash. I can't go back, Please Help? Anyone? Please?

The first thing you need to do to keep your number is to stay in the same area code. Second, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT, don't cancel your old service until you get your new phone set up and the number transferred. Third, make sure you know your account number. Number porting is incredibly easy to do now and switching from one company to another is very easy and only takes a few hours. Staying with the sane company and just getting a new phone is even easier. If you are computer savvy most setups can be done online, which is how I have done my last three phone switches including inter-company and intra-company switches. If not just go and pay someone to do it at the store. Good Luck!

If this phone ever actually gets Android 4.0, you would probably have to update it manually anyway. That's how the other updates have been. I'm still using the original 2.3.5 because I didn't want the Muve music crap on my phone. I just never did the updates and never had a problem. I would assume any update to 4.0 would be the same way. I'm still not convinced we'll ever see it anyway, though.
My last phone automatically updated to a newer version of android, from 1.3 to 2.1, so I was worried that would happen again. I don't have a problem with going to HTML5 I just wish that the companies and developers would fully integrate and implement HTML5 before they get ride of Flash. Next stupid question, why is existing, and I would point out usually working, programming and upgrades eliminated before the next is ready to take its place?
