Oh damn, you seem to have a lot of issues. Maybe you should take a look on Drakaz forum. I know you're a mod here but over there yo might find the answers faster. THere is also a update fix released by Obi (more CPU freq's and stuff)
Hope you work it out. I dont have any problem with the nightly, all stable and smooth.

I notice a couple of people have reported this over on Drakaz' forum, and that's the reason I haven't switched to GAOSP yet. I was thinking this would be the version that did it too.

I don't know if the fixes bundle from Obi fixes that issue though.

Well, I can say that that fix in reality fixed that problem. So no more unexpected phone lock.

Regarding a question from DaSchmarotzer regarding themes.
Weird I have 4 theme to choose from CyangenMod (a real mystery indeed). This 4 themes are as followed: stock (white), stock_black, gingerbread, and Animsense (I installed this one in the previous build) - CyangenMod>User interface> Tweaks extras
Also in User interface you can experiment with notifications, weird thing I don't have that CyangenMod thingy when I pull notification bar down (instead i have == - something similar to that).

Anyway, enjoy playing thru it and make your transition from Galaxo to GAOSP be without problems. We're all glad you came to the darkside. Enjoy!

But after modifying a few things, I realized that the Handle from the drop down notification tray is a Cyanogen logo, is there a way to change that? Also that tray has no transparency, do I have to create my own theme or is there an option to add transparency?
If you only tick the "Custom notification bar" checkbox it should only change the bar, not the notifications pulldown bar (separate option underneath). The tray has no transparency in my latest version of the theme, I will probably bring it back in the next release.

I think that should be "Notifications ticker color" and "Notifications count color".

I've seen this myself some times, it got back to normal after I backed out from setting and looked again.

Nightly build 0.71 is out since yesterday.
Notice: Gingerbread theme doesn't work with this one. Not yet.

I've been using the new build, the strange shut-down bug is gone. (EDIT: I withdraw that comment, just happened to me. Turning the wifi off will fix it.)

I've also solved most of my issues, if not all (I still think it's weird that some features are gone from the stock SMS app...). Thanks to all of those who replied.

Here are screenshots of my new GAOSP setup, I like it! From left to right:

In fact I already created a theme. I wanted to modify the Gingerbread theme so it would work on the latest nightly, but I don't want to steal credit, so I created my own. It only changes notification icons and the black "handlebar" from the notification tray. Seeing that those are minor changes, I didn't want to create a thread just for that, but thought that some of you might be interested (probably not).

Here's a screenshot of the new handlebar, the Cyanogen logo was annoying:

I'm using Launcher pro: the calendar widget and the SMS widget both came with it.

The Weather/clock widget is from FancyWidgets pro.

I meant the blue of the icons i got a nicer background hehe imo at least.
You should post it on drakaz since people are dying for a ginger theme on this new nightly and Frojd is busy this days. Talk to him first anyway.

For your Launcher Pro Widgets, how did you make the background clear/invisible, I can't seem to adjust the colour with my widgets as its always black with little opaque

You'd have to theme the application. As in open the .apk, edit image files, sign it and then install it.

I'd share it with you, but it's a paid application so it is against the forum rules.

What's your background then?

I do visit the Drakaz forums, but I'd much rather have everything here. IMO there wasn't even a need for another forum, Drakaz simply decided to close the comments from the GAOSP page and start a forum/website. Before that, he would post his stuff here and it had been working just fine.

I just updated to latest nightly and now the market doesn't work. When I try to download an app or do an update to a built in app it just keeps switching between "downloading..." and "Download Paused" but never downloads it. :-(

Weird. I never had that problem. I don't know if it would help, but did you try and clear the cache and data from the market ?? I had to do that when I upgraded to the newest market.

Great!

USB NDIS tethering works perfectly. Instant connection without any hassle, be it wifi or 3G sharing. Overall the performance seems smoother. Battery life remains to be seen, but it wasn't bad in the earlier nightlies, 2-4 days depending on data/wifi usage (I keep sync on all the time). 2D gallery finally works from the camera app. 3D gallery is simply too heavy for this device, although I miss its ability to show Picasa albums.

I'll have a go tweaking various settings (compcache, swap, clocks) and see what happens.

Great work everyone who made this possible. Huge thanks. And with the Galaxy Updater installing is a breeze!

Are you attempting to download from the Market while on wifi or on 3G? I had noticed from your info that you're a Bell customer as well, and I have had this issue before. If you're connected to 3G, then you have to tweak your APN settings a little bit. Make sure that your proxy port is set to 80, rather than the empty setting that resides there. If you're on wifi, then sure that the box next to "Enable proxy on wifi" is checked in the Wireless & Network Settings menu. If those are set, and you've restarted (trust me on this, sometimes all you really needed was a power cycle) then you should be back in business and downloading apps like a champ.

No more of that, I mean the battery drainage issue. But do a full wipe before installing and choose your own O/C value.

Funny you mention that. Every time (and I do mean EVERY ), I change roms, the port setting is the one thing that doesn't seem to be saved. Everything else is there. At least its predictable !

I was on 3G. I found when I switched to Wifi (Finally went and adjusted my router so I will stay connected while at home) and it worked fine. I just added the port, so I'll check next time I'm off wifi. Thanks!

Default Does new build fix shut-down bug???

I have been following drakaz on twitter but not the android forum. I m thinking to finally move to froyo this week with galaxyupdater. Some questions:

1) Does newest build fix shut-down bug??
2) will galaxyupdater install google market or a will required a manual install??
3) I will wipe it. How do i JUST save SMS message??
4) OC to 610 mhz = higher ram??

Thanks

1) No it was not fixed. This bug is caused by wifi, so you'll have to turn it off before the phone goes to sleep.
2) I am unsure about this one as I don't use Galaxyupdater but my guess would be no.
3) you would have to use an application to back them up before wiping, reinstall the application and then restore them. I don't know of any, but I'm sure it's possible to find one.
4) You won't get more ram by overclocking your cpu. The processor is simply going to perferm better/faster.

And thanks for the compliment about my theme.

A quick report on battery life.

No signs of strange drainage, the battery is at 75 % after 30 hours of idling, 30 min talking, all syncing enabled. Most of the time on wifi. Some GPS and 3G browsing while out. Min freq is 19.2 MHz, max 624 MHz, CPU sampling and sensors reaction on performance. I don't think the overclocking has any value for me, so I'll probably revert to the defaults.

Edit: I just switched to interactive CPU governor, and it feels way snappier now! I'll do some real comparison later.

I have terrible battery life with all the latest nightlys. Screenshots of "Battery use" would be appreciated. Here's mine at 77% (almost no usage):

Dont like that one either. It starts on its own and stays in memory.

Hi Guys,

I just got my first i7500L and I repaired its dead screen with a new one from china for $23 shipped. I paid $20 at fastgsm to unlock it so I can use it with my Speakout sim ($1/mo plus $.25/min). The firmware is version 1.5.

Since I hear most talk about Froyo when I hear about android, I guess this will give me the best choice of apps and features possible for the galaxy i7500L.

My question is:
do I have to worry about re-locking the phone (I know not to write amss file to the phone, delete it from any tarball). This only happens when restoring the phone or does the Drakaz stuff have amss as well?

You have no worries at all.
Just either use Galaxyupdater app for installing GAOSP or Galaxo. The free version allows you to install recovery and paid version recovery + GAOSP or Galaxo.

Just ask, if you don't understand something. And don't forget to read the sticky (links to some guides).

From what I understand so far I need to:
1. root my phone
2. let the paid version of galaxyupdater do the rest automatically

The sticky has very old info, the only link there I think may be valid is
Simple Rooting Guide (without galax0/galaxher0 roms)

Do I really need to do all of that or can I skip the recovery part of the rooting, since galaxyupdater is going to do that soon enough?

Question: Do I need to progress from
1.5 --> 1.6 galaxo --> GAOSP
or can I go right from
1.5 --> latest GAOSP (beta3)

PS for anyone else reading this, it seems you do not have to pay fastgsm to unlock your galaxy, you can flash the brazilian baseband and then flash back to unlock

You can go directly from any firmware to any other. Yes, you could root the phone and then let Galaxy Updater do the rest, but the "hard" part is rooting. It takes more time to install the app if you know what to do (which you should after the first time).

If you want to install Galaxo or GAOSP, you could use this guide which I wrote some time ago. If you need help, I'm sure people like Lelouch, r3dpuma (or me) will help you out.

The link you posted would still work, it's pretty much the same thing now that I look at it.

EDIT: Forgot to answer your question about the recovery part. Well, the recovery is an easy way of rooting, so you should probably pick a guide and then follow it instead of experimenting with other stuff. There are other methods (rooting with Odin, easyroot, etc) but you should probably stick to the guide for now.

PS: I never used the app Drakaz made and I thought the "install recovery" option was pretty much only used when an update is released since most people root by installing the recovery. I might be wrong though.

The guide has a bad link in this section:
Code:
The GAOSP Google apps (also known as Gapps) Thanks to Obihoernchen for this version or the Galaxo Google Apps.
There is now a version 3 out.

Alright, fixed it, thanks. I linked to the download page instead of the file to prevent it from happening again.

I think you're right on this part.
I'm sure if you're phone is not rooted already you will not succeed in installing the recovery. Instead you will get a warning stating that you need to have your phone already rooted (need root access). So the Galaxyupdater app will be useless unless you root your phone beforehand.

So DaSchmarotzer has already answered some of your questions regarding that. I think there was a link for a 1.6 firmware with a custom recovery for flashing via ODIN. Or via ADB, use existing guide for that (I hope you don't use 64 bit Windows), never tried from Ubuntu or Linux.

About flashing brazilian firmware.
That's unnecessary now with the newest version of GAOSP. Some previous builds needed that. So skip this.
One thing I'm not sure off is. If you flash Bell firmware back on your phone ,that the phone will get locked back again.

Anyway, first try flashing recovery via ADB (use guides for that). If you have questions just ask, someone will answer you for sure. Also about gapps there are 3 versions you can choose from: ultralight, light and normal one. So choose carefully which you want, I think that Obi has a read me files on his site for each of the option except for the normal ones.

Guide needs an update in step 3.

I copied the 2 .zip files to the internal storage:
gapps-gaosp-light-31032011-signed.zip
GAOSP-2-PUBLIC-BETA-3.zip
and
RECTOOLS.tar.gz

I installed android-sdk-windows and copied
recovery-6.5.1.img
to the /tools

I did the fastboot and got a dll error. So I found out that adb was moved to a new folder /platform-tools, so I copied it over to /tools with the dll file
adb_has_moved.txt
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
adb.exe

Question: Where does galaxyupdater come into play? I assume the guide is rooting my phone and i have the option of finishing it or using the updater?

Update: In the meantime I finished the guide, it was very clear and the automated scripts did all the work for me Thanks guys.
