Posted this over on HDBlog too but I've just applied the new update.zip over the top of my existing GalaxHero 1.0 without doing a factory reset/wipe, then restored the g.apps, and everything is looking fine.

There's also no need to reflash the recovery just overwrite the RECTOOLS.tar.gz file with the new one.

Is there any noticeable improvement compared to 1.0?
1.0 was very slow on my device and after few mods posted on this forum is now working great...so is it worth upgrading?

I never had any performance issues with 1.0, you've not got compcache enabled have you? That does slow things down noticeably.

No huge changes in this, just some improvements/fixes. Changelog from the HDBlog thread...
Quote:
GalaxHero 1.1

- VNC server on port 5901 (can be activated in GalaxoConf). Very slow, but works with keyboard. (F2 = return, HOME=home). Keyboard work only with a patched kernel.
- Fixed Superuser whitelist by Pegasus21 & Drakaz
- Full SSHD support, with /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow ect. Also support SCP. Can be activated in GalaxoConf. (To change root password : adb shell remountrw, adb shell passwd)
- Sms/Mms patch to choose after how many sms the message must be converted to an mms (Thanks to ieftm for this advice)
- Fixed unlock alarm clock
- Add an option on AdvancedLauncher to activate/deactivate haptic
- News sysctl tweak from experts on XDA
- Home app is now locked in memory to avoid reloading of it
- 2 kernel can be applied after the rom update : one with keyboard patch for VNC + mem patch (provide 9mo extra memory for system, but remove 3D), and the other with only keyboard patch for VNC. DO NOT FLASH THOSE BOOT IMAGE BEFORE FIRST START (if you do, setupwizard block on keyboard opening)

Seems dropbear has changed in this, so if you were using the "SSH_ON.bat" script mentioned in the galaxo tweaks thread (http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/12365-galaxo-tweaks-get-more-memory.html#post73375) it won't work.

You'll need to run "adb shell" to open up a shell, enter "passwd" and set a new password for root, then modify the SSH_ON script to...

adb forward tcp:9999 tcp:2222
adb shell "/system/xbin/dropbear -p 2222"

I've been playing around with compcache enabled today and it seems faster than 1.0 was.

you should always make sure you give advice based on EXACTLY what you did as otherwise it results in further problems like i experienced, lucky for me i a bit more versed in sorting problems with galaxy but alot of users would panic and start messing up other things

Well as I stated I was installing over the top of an existing GalaxHero 1.0, surely those people would be well aware

indeed, but you said "i just applied update.zip"
so i did just that, i ended up in android screen for almost an hour.
because you said "it worked" i didnt think i needed to apply gapps as it was already on from the previous install.

i had to pull the battery, boot back into recovery, re apply update, apply gapps and then it worked

its good to be specific in what you did

I did the same mistake as Rastaman-FB. No harm done though, only needed to reboot back into recovery and reapply :P

Talking

I just done it (GalaxHERO1.1) over Galaxo1.0, no wipe. and it working smooth, every thing i know still there. just need to reinstall CIME & remove something I don't need.

I would say one thing is must have,
- Home app is now locked in memory to avoid reloading of it
Like keeping the OS/UI standby for my input all the time, not me waiting for it.

one question:
did anyone know where can I find this option,
- Add an option on AdvancedLauncher to activate/deactivate haptic

KAM is still about i think

eitherway as you already have galax0 1.0 all i did was
1 put the new update.zip on the phone mass storage
2 replace the old rectools with the new one from the v4.3 recovery
3 download the system img from the htc site calling it HTC.zip and put it onto the mass storage
4 check that II5.tar is still on the phone mass storage
5 boot into recovery and notice its now showing 4.3
6 do a nandroid backup
7 apply update.zip
8 restore gapps
9 Restore LibHGL
10 reboot

i didnt need to use any ADB commands or Fastboot
this worked for me in exactly this order however if it doesnt you maybe required to borrow someones machine
personally i would recommend doing it when near a windows pc just incase something does go drastically wrong you can flash it with odin

i think it will be just fine though

Can anyone please upload google apps backup. I'd be very grateful. I've messed things up, and now I can't restore them. Haven't been very careful and forgot to put new rectools, so the update wasn't succesful. I had to wipe. Now I get this when I try to restore g.apps:
-- Restore Google apps
-- Press HOME to confirm, or
-- any other key to abort..
-- Restore started...
.Erreurs : le fichier de mise à jour est absent. Veuillez déposer le fichier de mise à jour dans /sdcard/ renommé en (/sdcard/)

From my poor knowledge of French, I suppose it says that I don't have necessary files. Tried to restore earlier nandroid backup, but still there isn't an option to restore gapps. Please help.

Thank you

EDIT: It seems that old RECTOOLS (4.1) did the trick. I've put them back and restored google apps with no problem. Now everything works great. But, could that be an indication of a bug in 4.3, since I didn't even see the option of backing up g.apps -- only restore?

you dont have an option to backup gapps as you should have pushed ii5.tar to sdcard and gapps restore works from there

Thank you MichaelW, now I get it.
also i notice that return from new option setup, the "advancelauncher" will restart once, rather than back to last screen.

Thanks, Rastaman. I'm too hasty, which always makes things just a little bit more complicated than they really are. RTFM, screamin.

What happens when android 2.0 is released for the phone? Will drakaz have to rebuild the whole thing?

And yes, i do mean "when". Yes samsung's customer support has been woefully quiet, but they are a successful global company and im sure all to well aware of what would happen if they didnt support the phone into the future, so i am v confident 2.0 will come, albeit not for a couple months.

Fixes 3D support.

You need to download the HTC system zip mentioned in the instructions and copy it to your phone named HTC.zip.

Yeah did that - the 1.5 signed system image. Ho hum. Never mind I can live without 3D!

Thanks Michael

Couple of notes...

- Quickdroid and some other useless samsung apps are still there. Use the clearapps.sh script to clean up
- debuggerd is still running, clearapps.sh will do it
- the vnc server option is broken. do an 'adb remount' and edit /etc/galaxo.conf manually to set vnc=no

The kernel doesnt have the framebuffer tweak so the total free memory is still 95mb on the gpu one. I guess all that stuff will be in galaxo instead of galaxohero!

Default Changes vs. standard ROM?

Is there a summary of what's different from the standard firmware? I have a long list of things I'd like to be different but I don't know if it's worth completely resetting my phone. If there's not a list can someone tell me if any of the following are improved in Galaxhero 1.1?

- IMAP Email client does not do signatures
- Cannot change the button press time to bring the phone out of sleep
- WiFi usually does not connect without resetting it
- No easy way to kill processes
- No way to navigate/find Contacts except scrolling
- Camera app stinks
- Battery life is so-so with 3G
- No flash in browser
- Many many minor settings are not changeable in Settings or Spare Parts

The kernel doesnt have the framebuffer tweak so the total free memory is still 95mb on the gpu one. I guess all that stuff will be in galaxo instead of galaxohero!

GalaxHero is not a a light version, but a full, with all app. Look at galaxo to have a very lightest rom.
The rom's stock kernel doesn't have the fb tweak because i don't want people that hurt me about 3D, without reading how to restore it, so, i prefer people flash their boot with a kernel with/without gpu, after installing Galaxo/GalaxHero.

Thanks kam for the advice about VNC, will look at

Default Can't get that clock widget...and what does the HTC file do?

I got it running. Thanks so much for your work everyone. I had to troll a few forums to remember all the steps between the steps but it looks good. Certainly snappier.

I have a few questions:

I am still downloading the HTC file. It is taking a long time. So I got impatient and did everything else. What does it do? Is there a problem installing it later? (I'm assuming the libhgl step was the one because that one failed.)

What to do with the other 2 files that came with galaxhero, gpu and no_gpu?

And I can't get the cool clock widget. Android market says it can't find it.

Is bluetooth improved? Can I exchange files with other phones? Any apps that will help?

And finally, is there any app or tweak to improve/speed-up the unlock time? I know it's just a couple of seconds but it still bugs me a bit.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, you can do it later.

Search "Weather Widget on the market"

Default I still don't understand gpu

Which one is which? Do I just put the boot.img on the sd card? What do I select in recovery mode? (Or is it fastboot mode?)

Thanks again.

Yea, I had the same issue. Please read Rastaman's reply to my post. He explained what it's about. Make sure you have ii5.tar on your sdcard. RECTOOLS 4.3 uses that tarball to extract google apps.

Reflash the recovery.img (4.3 version) using fastboot. A few things have changed
I had a 4.0 recovery image and had the same problems.

Thanks Tisti,
But as I mentioned in my first post I am trying with V 4.3 as I thourght the Gapps bug was fixed with this version, but not for me evidently. That's why I was thinking of cleaning the phone out and starting from a clean base, it's just time taking for me and I was hoping for an easyer solution.

Sorry for being annoying

Are you sure you didn't just replace the RECTOOLS.tar.gz on the sdcard or did you also reflash the recovery.img? You have to reflash it.

Get the II5 image from here, it works:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/13692-how-odin-galexo-rom-s.html

Your II5.tar might be different (I know mine was and it can have some operator customizations in it)

wow tisti your 1.0 galaxo was flashed with recovery 4.0?
it was superseded to 4.1 within days due to issues with it. i would have changed that time ago as 4.1 and 4.2 was a requirement for 1.0 rom

ahh well i should have put in the step by step update to flash the recovery.img aswell for those who had not updated to 4.2 recovery earlier on

Galaxo (non-Hero themed version)

Version 1.1.1 available now, fixes the issue with enabling/disabling VNC in the GalaxHero 1.0 ROM.

ooops, misread the thread when I posted the above, it's the 1.1.1 Galaxo ROM in the link above not the hero themed GalaxHero.

GalaxHero has also been updated to 1.1.1 too.
