Have gone ahead and flashed to 1.6, applied the update.zip, but dont seem to be able to get Gapps to restore properly. I cant boot past the 'android' screen atm
yeah, i upgraded to the latest recover. It's not market recovery i need, but Gapps because the Galaxo mod doesnt have the standard google apps. I believe market restore is to restore ALL apps, mms, and sms!

did you remember to copy the 1.6 tar on to /sdcard and rename it as SAMSUNG.tar? that's where the gapps are restored from.
just a small update indeed and comes with loads of bugs too.
i would just stay in cupcake by now since there's no good reason for now to move on, still no bluetooth or multitouch, just a new market and new google maps with feature i couldn't really use it right now.

the new maps is really good. that and the lock screen tweak is better in my opinion.
Haven't tried 1.6.1 yet, but galaxo 1.6 just boots indefinately for me... Stock 1.6 ROM works fine. I DID flash the stock ROM before applying galaxo update.zip (with drakaz recovery 4.6).
Any ideas? Is that fixed in 1.6.1?
Btw, is it true that 1.6 now knows which apps you had before flashing a new firmware? Or will I need to install everything again like with 1.5?

mine works just fine. 1.6.1 fixed all the call/sms issues for me.
all i did for it to work ok is:
- flash the new firmware
- wipe using old recovery
- flash the new recovery
- push the new update.zip and the firmware renamed as SAMSUNG.tar
- wipe using new recovery
- apply update.zip
- apply restore gapps
oh and before i pushed update.zip i deleted the old update file.
@mrbrdo - the first time i flashed from 1.5 to 1.6 it remembered my apps but after first reboot it forgot them.
i think it remembers the apps you had on 1.6 though.

Had 1.6 working, haven't tried 1.6.1 yet. reverted to stock after phone and sms wasn't working.
-flashed recovery 4.6
-nandroid backup
-wipe
-adb pushed galaxo 1.6 as update.zip onto /sdcard
-adb pushed official 1.6 update as SAMSUNG.zip onto /sdcard
-run update.zip
-restore gapps
-reboot
*note if you're drag/dropping or copy/pasting the zip files through windows*
I've had problems flashing when dragging and dropping the zip files onto /sdcard through windows explorer. However when using command prompt to push through adb it works everytime.

Oh so you wipe twice? Once with the old, then once with the new?

i wiped once after i flashed the firmware and then enabled usb debugging. then i flashed the new recovery, pushed the files onto the device and then wiped again before applying update.zip and gapps.

You mean using the stock recovery (I've never actually went into recovery in stock, so I dunno how it works haha)? Or the one in settings? Thanks.

well the first time i flashed the firmware it didnt load so i used stock recovery to wipe (you just press the button above the call button) and then wiped again after 1.6 firmware booted.
btw note that you do push the files through adb, not through windows explorer like hoho said.

i couldn't restore gapps until i realized that there was another zip file inside the downloaded zip file. the one inside was the one i had to rename. duh! now it's working.
Just installed MinFreeManager, can you tell me what settings works best on the Galaxy.
Cheers
I'm not too sure, I'm new too it myself. I was just recommended it.
Anyway, both aggressive and mild seem to make my phone work smoothly, dunno about the detailed implications on my apps though.

Use the agressive setting, and set it only to Apply then play around with the phone. When you restart it, the settings will disappear. If your happy with the settings then mark them as Apply on boot.
Really niffty app, the phone is much more responsive!
