I am just a mere mortal when it comes to Android, and all this stuff about firmware, roms etc, keeps my head spinning. Ive read on the forums, and noticed Galaxo 1.6.something, is a usermade version of Android 1.6? And GAOSP is an unfinished usermade Android 2, etc. But in all this mess, wich firmware should I choose?
I live in norway, and I cant upgrade it to more than Android 1.5. Android 1.6 looks nice, but other than being a decimal larger than 1.5, is it worth it?
Does the Galaxo 1.6.something contain lots of bugs? Is it possible to go back to the default ( Like when i got my phone for the first time?)
And if Galaxo is worth it, could someone link me an easy to use guide on how to do it proper for dumbnuts?
1.5 Connect your phone and mount your SD card, now copy “SAMSUNG.tar”, “update.zip” and “RECTOOLS.tar.gz” to the root of the card. This can be done with the ADB Push command if you prefer it but in my opinion that doesn’t exactly make it simpler
The problem is I dont have any SD card around me :S Is there an other way to continue? HE might be refering to the "internal SD card" But how do i get to place files there?

And what is the benefit to upgrade to Galaxo 1.6.2 when ig ot the 1.6 firmware?
adb push rectools.tar.gz /sdcard/
or you can drag and drop it to the root of the mass storage via windows explorer when you enable it on the device.
the reason we advise the stickies is because those are actually the simplest methods used and clearly explained.
its important to know fully what the ramifications are, the pitfalls and benefits of what you are doing.
for example flashing the device and saying its all in russian suggests you didnt read the stickies. CSC is the config the carrier applies and you dont really want it so i dont know why the person on that guide is flashing it.
also the galaxo 1.6.2 isnt really that worth it as its got minor improvement for a standard user. the major improvements will come soon when Drakaz brings out 1.6.3
we cannot advise really on what suits you as youll see from these forums its entirely personal preference and atm everyone is on random mixes and matches of firmware.
personally if you want 1.6 be aware of the no sleep bug talked about in these forums, be aware of lower volumes with headset (often cannot hear people clearly on handsfree)
i wouldnt bother with galaxo right now tbh. you wont see much difference between a standard 1.6 rom that is rooted over it unless you are an advanced user

Ive moved 3 files to the internal sd card. update.zip, SAMSUNG.tar and rectools.tar.gz. How do i remove this, sense i dont need em?
And where is my big red button, called switch? I used it to turn off wifi fast
And it seems i are not able to send or recive data now. Can i fix this somehow?
do you not know anything that youve just done?
do you want your phone rooted?
the big red button is gone
rectools.tar.gz is part of the new recovery to get root. if you dont want this then it can be found on the phone storage by connecting to pc and mounting it. then you can delete it in windows explorer along with the other two files. however if you want to keep root then you can just delete the other two
APN you need to put in the carrier settings
the red button has been replaced with power control widget but i think thats only available on a non csc flash and not the russian csc youve flashed
please please please read the guides on here and do some digging. people get annoyed with re typing the same old stuff
also there is a search button, please use it
I do think I know what i have done, atleast to some degree. Ive updatet the phone firmware to Android 1.6. Ive read some stickies, but they dont make any sense before I actually try to **** around myself. Ive managed to get the data traficc going. But i have lost my Edge/3g icon that does this animation when its sending/reciveing data.
What do you suggest I do now? Flash it with the non csc?
I have this now:
Firmware V. 1.6
Baseband version I7500XEC6
Kernel version 2.6.29 root@bluemoong-desktop #3
Buildnr: Donut.XEJC6

the stickies make complete sense though, this is whats dangerous as you need to understand them and dont rush anything. if you dont take it in just hang about and read what people are doing and saying and itll all start making sense
personally i would reflash with 1.6 removing the csc
root the device using the galaxo recovery 4.6.2 etc
google the APN settings for your carrier and input them into the device under "wireless controls, mobile networks"
FYI, in Germany I flashed with Russian CSC and my Blau (e-plus) sim couldn't autodetect the proper APN. Without the CSC it did just fine...no manual entry required. Good luck.
I'm also a newbie on this.. And have read a LOT of posts here, many times. But still very confused.
Now I have managed to flash my Galaxy with Galaxo 1.6 (Flash rom Galaxo 1.6.2 and 1.6.1 - Windows tutorial - Samsung Galaxy). I did it because I had problems with the original 1.5. The only problem though was that it was hanging up calls while I was talking, and when people tried calling me.. So I decided to give it a try and upgrade.
Flashing was successfull and it looks very good. But the "hanging up" problem is still there. I can't use the phone for phonecalls, which is a nice thing to have working.. And data transfer through the network don't work. No Edge or 3G icon.. I will try to find the network APN.

Thanks for the link. I will try some more and see if I can overcome this problem somehow. It's a shame, caus it's a magnificent phone apart from that. And a lot of things work better with 1.6.
I inserted my network APN, and I now get 3G and Edge
