Cool To The Letter

Just wanted to quickly post and say I followed the instructions to the letter with zero issue.

The phone DID freeze on the Android boot screen for a few minutes, which sorta freaked me out. But then it continued without trouble.

Only things that caught me was I lost my APN settings (and therefore my access to 3G), but a quick search for "Bell Mobility APN settings" rectified that in a jiffy.

Cheers!

P.S. Why is this guide not stickied yet??

ok,after one week of using new firmware here'a a little overview.

overall phone is much faster duo to overclocking, wifi is more dependable and there are more customization choices.

problems: handcent sometimes force close.voice recorder always force close so i deleted it.
biggest problem is display going black at least 2-3 times a day, which requires boot.
old program was horrible, this one is bearable......hope next one will finally unleash all the galaxy powers.

Many thanks!!!!!!!!!! the driver problem has been solved!!
while i thought i can go to the next step:

I boot my phone into recovery mode, I can only see the Downloading...instead of the green recovery menu

Does anyone know what causes this?
I have already put the 3 required files into the root of Internal SD

Are you sure you pressed “Lower volume button”, the "Call button" and the "power button", holding them at the same time? Looks like you booted your phone in Download mode, not recovery.

Did you get the same messages like the ones on the picture you posted? (Are you sure you didn't skip something?)

Default restoring G.apps ?

It seems this is general problrm with i7500 and many ask about this problem and many find some solution ,but in this moment I am crazy and I don't know what to do.I try everything...check all extensions...tar.rar an so on.
On every recovery all steps going ok but when trying to recovery G.apps he can not find recovery.log...and abort process.
On the last update I take exact SAMSUNG.rar and copy to sdcard but it seems that it can' open recovery from archive.Curently runing on Windows 7 ,and some users tell that is problem with copying from W7 or Vista...plese.

Just to make sure, did you copy Samsung.tar on your phone?

You mentioned ".rar" twice in your post, and there is no .rar in the whole process.

Thanks for quick replay.

Actually...right now it try do in virtual xp (vmware)...downloade again firmware extract to SAMSUNG.rar (.rar because unhided folder mode for known extensions) and put it to sdcard.
RECOVERY 4.6.3 extract>RECTOOLS(tar.gz) put in sdcard finally take galaxo 1.6.3.3. nad renamed to update.rar.
I know about you talk because some users duplicate extensions in foe example .rar.rar or tar.rar.

On the start of rom (bios) "green" screen on the end of screenj is..E/can' find sdcard/recovery.log..or something like this..OK I ignored this everythime and made for example nandroid backup just in case, then wipe..then take update and to this point is everything great.
Now when try to restore G.apps it start to restore for a few seconds then stoped nad wrote something like can,t open ...i think recovery or ..i don't know> see /sdcard/recovery.log

The last thing i could do is to reformat sdcard and make process from the scratch...but i doubt.

P.S. before puting galaxo rim from drakaz i flashig the system with 1.6.3.3. using odin... and this is my backup that works good except without drakaz tweaks and mush slower...maybe the catch is here.

I still don't understand why you are talking about ".rar"

To restore the Google apps, the file you need on the root of your device is "Samsung.tar", you get it by extracting "I7500XEJC6.zip".

And you need to rename the Galaxo file "update.zip", not .rar

EDIT: Sorry, I wrote this before you posted the picture, everything seems fine on it, I'll think about it. The issue might be coming from you using a virtual OS, but I don't know why.

....find the way...

in numerous ideas i rememberd one that i did not find before and after...
It notice that it seems that old "nondrakaz" backup can make issue with restoring G.apps...so the formula was to boot into galaxo, then in recovery, made backup, and then other steps..wipe,update ,restore G.apps ,and first time in life of this phone they start to making moore then three dots, boot in new galaxo and find gmail, market and other lost things.

For the future ...if you will have my destiny try with this..hope it was usefull.

Suddenly my Market Enabler stopped working. I cant figure out whats the problem.
I have reinstalled it several times but still nothing, cleared the market cache and market storage, nothing.

It opens up and the Faking works 100% 4/4 then tells its Set and done but it doesnt actualy change the values.

Anyone experienced something similar? Im running Galaxo 1.6.3.3

sounds like its having trouble with the su manager.
try forgetting it in the su manager and re running it and see if it re-establishes a su request for allow

i had issues with the superuser app and a restore was needed a while back

You're welcome!

Oh, and did you overclock your phone? It's in the app "Galaxo configuration", you can select O/C 614Mhz or O/C 710Mhz. The higher the better, of course.

Because it sure is snappier.

I plan to give O/C a go in a bit here, im just doing tests and what not, working great so far, but my one complaint is: its not letting me change the number of items in the menu via Extend, as i dont like it with 6 and 5 icons...

Edit 1: camera dosent work either, it takes the picture, then it just appear's corrupted.
Edit 2: forgot about camera enable
Edit 3: is there a theme I can install that is the default design, with a black status bar like the htc hero?
Edit 4: Is it normal for the phone to have g.apps crashing once and a while, but also lagging out wifi teather and crashing widgets upon boot?

I don't know about the theme, I never really looked into the black border. All I can say is that I'm using Helix Launcher and I really like it.

I can't really help you with g.apps either, as I don't really use them a lot. I only have one application/widget that crashes once in a while, and it's the weather widget, all the others are fine. I never used wifi tether either.

All in all, I can't really help you with that. I do however appreciate the fact that you edited your post instead of posting five times.

its easier to manage if you just edit the post. Well, i looked around online, turns out i needed to re-restore the g.apps, its working now :P

Teather Wifi needed a reboot from the first install.

All in all, its fixed now lol, im just happy my phone isnt rebooting by-itself anymore

Edit: I forgot to ask, Why is it that i cant change the number of icons per row?

You need to manually enter an APN to be able to connect to 2G/3G (and you'll need to do it every time you do a wipe prior to upgrading to a new FW).
See this post ("to get your Data connection to work again").

I have never entered any information other than the APN = pda.bell.ca But then again I don't use POP mail. Exchange and Gmail.

then you are only getting access to the 3G data network, No POP or IMAP mail, no MMS...

you are getting data only.

Hey, so i am trying to do this switch to Galaxo, and i have tried it several times but when i get to the recovery screen i dont get that nice big list, i only get reboot system now. It says:
Mini Recovery Mode
The archive : rectools.tar.gz was not found on /sdcard/

this small recovery allow you to upload the rectool.tar.gz archive on /sdcard/using adb
when the upload was done, reboot again in recovery mode

Just to confirm the /sdcard/ destination is the external sdcard *not* the 8gb internal storage space?

Thanks

The 8gb internal storage is actually an SD card, so you have to put it there.

You DON'T need an external SD card.

I guess it is. I never tried, but you could either: do your own, or modify an existing theme (just like inFECT's Darksense) to remove everything except the notification bar in the framework-res.apk, and I think you'd need the services.odex (or .jar?) for the date and hour to become white. Because of this, I don't think it's possible in Metamorph (I might be wrong), so you'd have to sign the new update.zip after modifying it.

It's a complicated thing, so you'd probably be better modifying a Metamorph theme, but there might be problems with the date. (black on black)

Default Thanks !

@DaSchmarotzer,

Thanks for the wonderful guide !! I was really hesitant about moving to Galaxo earlier, but after reading your instructions, I changed my mind and gave it a go! Really, even my brother could follow these instructions and not mess up.

At this point, I doubt if it's really needed, but you don't have any screen shots of the phone in "fastboot" or of it loading up the Galaxo image. So, here they are from me ! (Well, it was my brother who took them, and holding the camera up and taking the shots in that 15-second gap was difficult, so if you find these useful, some thanks would really go a long way)

On a minor point, for me the file-name was "SAMSUNG.tar" and not "Samsung.tar"

Again, thanks a bunch for this !!

-chronodekar

EDIT:
How do I go about finding what clock-speed the phone is running at? I have no interest in overclocking the phone for regular use, but I want to confirm that the phone is UNDER-clocked when the display is off - how do I do this?

there are various overclock widgets about for simple overclock settings
you will need to go into galaxo config first and select the overclock option for either 614 or 710 then you can use an overclock widget to cap it at the values you want
mine is set to 120000 - 654000 because it got unstable at 710 and charging via usb does some odd stuff when the phone is idle at 19000.

it does sleep when screen is off or even idle. i use setcpu which again is a paid app but it can show you the freq in real time and even just not touching it it drops to lower value when you set it to "on demand"

Just a quick bump of Help here.

On my install the Graphical Superuser App started to fail causing me to need to revert apps..

if you have this issue Cold Boot the battery, and start in recovery, and select the option (DISABLE ROOT), THEN (ENABLE ROOT) THEN (FIX PERMISSIONS)

that will give you the other SU App

:P works better for Wifi Tether too
