READ THROUGH THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT LEAST TWICE. MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING NECESSARY BEFORE STARTING THE ROOTING PROCESS.

DOWNLOADS:
Here is the software that you will need to use to get S-OFF: Revolutionary
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***Make sure that you have USB debugging turned 'ON' and Fastboot turned 'OFF'***
USB debugging:
Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging 'checked'
Fastboot:
Settings > Power > Fast boot 'unchecked'
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During the process, the application will ask if you would like to download and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Go ahead and enter 'Y'. It will install CWM.
After the S-OFF process, reboot the phone. Add the superuser.zip file you downloaded to your sdcard, if you already haven't. Boot into recovery and flash the superuser.zip.
CONGRATULATIONS! You're now rooted and ready to begin flashing! Don't forget to do a NANDROID backup as well!

Got what might a noob question. I have plenty of experience flashing to the Motorola Droid but the DINC2 is a different animal. I have rooted the phone and achieved S-off but Clockwork Mod Recovery has not been flashed to the phone. The only way I can get to CMOD is by going thru Revolutionary. I cannot boot into CMOD directly from the phone. Am I doing something wrong?
Success! The most confusing part was realizing that I had to enter the serial number after I clicked the link for the download... too many pop-ups, too small of a computer screen... ;-) That was almost as easy as the unrEVOked root for my Inc1! Now to find some decent ROMs...
Problem somewhat solved. I went to the Android Market and download Rom Manager and flashed it from site. I can boot to Clockwork Mod Recovery from within ROM Manager. Handy little app.
Everything seemed to install fine per the instructions above. I could start SU but it would not actually do anything. I then DL'd ROM manager, it to would not work but told me the problem was with permissions. So I re DL'd SU from the market and everything fired right up
Successfully achieved S-OFF using this method. However, it failed to install CMR.
Installed ROM Manager from Market and attempted to install Flash CMR from the app, received "error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands" error.
Attempted again after reinstalling ROM Manager... same result.
Downloaded the Virtuous ROM; isn't there supposed to be a clock/weather widget for the homescreen? I notice as I'm scrolling through widgets, a lot of HTC ones say false.

right click on the edge of the window (not in the black part, up in the border). I had some trouble with this being like, wtf. Right click the top of the boarder of the window.
I can't get the superuser.zip file. when i click on your link in the first post, I just get a 10 second countdown clock that repeats and repeats. Any help? or can someone post the .zip file on here?
So if I took the gingerbread update....can I use revolutionary? I thought it was for froyo users only
Revolutionary has been updated to work with the OTA gingerbread update.

Where did you download the virtuous ROM at? Look around there, probably XDA, and I'm sure there is a thread about it where you can post any issues with the ROM. I'd look and find a link, but I'm limited on time right now.

I ran all this and now my astro file manager shows a folder that says "root", but its empty. after I ran the .zip file, it said I was rooted, to hit back and reboot. i did that.
problem is, my phone looks the same. i still can't delete city ID or any of the other bloatware programs.
am I rooted or not? if so, how do i delete all the crapware?
Get TiBackup from the market. You can use that to delete all the bloatware. If you can delete the bloatware, you are rooted if you can't, you're not. The "root" folder in your dir. has nothing to do with wether you're rooted or not.
I'm definitely a noob, but I hope you can help anyway. I used Revolutionary and it looks like I made it all the way through the S-Off portion but it failed to install CMR and closed itself after. So my phone is stuck in the fastboot mode. Should I reboot it and try and install a ROM Manager from the market? Do I need to manually flash the recovery? I'm pretty sure I am about one click away from bricking my phone. THANKS!!!
I have a problem with the HTC Incredible 2. I successfully got S-off. However, the program crashes when I try to install CWM. Every time I try to type "y" then hit enter (When it asks if I would like to download CWM) It crashes immediately after. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Check XDA for some instructions on how to manually flash CWM. Basically you put it on your C drive, and use a dos prompt and some commands I don't know.
Sorry for no link (on phone) but check XDA, dinc2 forum, general section, there is a root with gb thread. Good directions for a manual flash of cwm.
