Quick question, have people started purchasing this cable yet for their phone to be able to watch whatever is on your Incredible on your tv. I believe VZW is going to offer this cable but dont know if it is available yet.
If people bought this type of cable, where did you buy it from and for how much.
Also, I think my nikon dslr came with a cable like this, would it work.
note: at the beginning of the video there is a bubble that says
"Second microUSB port for charging while connected"
So it looks like the microUSB side of the cable has both a male and female. The male for plugging into the Incredible and the female to receive the charger.
I have never seen a cable like this before...and I have seen just about everything (i work in the entertainment technology field).
my advise is the wait for the official release of the cable which will be "post launch" according to the verizon launch package pdf
also in the verizon launch package pdf the "TV Out" cable shows a picture of a 3.5mm jack as the male portion of the plub...they must have used a stock photo because the "TV Out" definitely connects to the phone via microUSB
The link I posted seems to be the same cable that Amazon is showing and is available now and on sale for $9.95! But you should verify somehow that it is the correct cable.
Thanks for posting the links guys! Saved me some time, though I wasn't going to anyway. Harpu1980 can look for himself with a bad attitude.
I never meant to quote you in a derogatory way, just that iphone etc has the same deal aside from apples proprietary connection.(which I posted a link for someone else in another thread so someone had an idea what the cable looked like). And if apple has it, I know(literally) someone make a similar product(mini/micro usb connection) etc...All these big company's copy each other to some degree. Anyway, Im sorry.
lol @ you guys ordering a cable that won't work with the device...
No you are wrong to a point lol. It is the right cable for me, just I wasn't ordering it for my Incredible. Well, actually I was untill I had time to go back and read the item description etc. Just to find out that it was a mini connection, but then decided I'd get it for my fiance who needed it for another device.
Though I should have taken the time to post and let people know, my bad. Though people should read up a little on what they are going to buy as i did. Just can't trust the people on the internet farther than you can throw'em
Though, I think Startech makes a mini to micro adapter that passes data as well as power. Or maybe it was a Motorola cable i had saw on Amazon the other day. So it potentially could work.
well Sh!t!! I ordered the cable from Amazon....i assumed it was Micro. I might still be able to use it though.
can i get your opinions? here is my thought...
i plan to use this in my car (my car has the red/white/yellow inputs). all the connections (including the charger) are in the center console so they can be hidden except for when i need to plug up my phone. with the way the cable is designed, i would basically have two cables dangling from my phone. (the cable i bought and my car charger's cable). BUT....if I use this adapter....
then i would just have one cable plugged into my phone and the rest could stay hidden in the center console.
my question is...is there anything wrong with using all these different cables? would i be better off using the OEM cable? audio/video quality, risk of damage to the phone, etc.?
I've never had problems with non-oem cables. I mean, it's sort of like saying that the HDMI cables available from Monoprice are somehow going to bork your equipment and you have to go with Monster.
So, as long as the cables have the same ports and connectors, you should be just fine. I'm looking for a non-oem inexpensive cable myself but a lot of them are unclear as to whether they are mini or micro usb connectors.

Appears that it will work. Just have to be careful as some cables only pass power. That one lists data as well so for the few dollars it is I'd try it.
DO NOT ORDER THE ONE FROM AMAZON POSTED! THE ACT100. It does NOT work!
Having said that, any ideas where I can buy a micro usb to composite out? I googled like crazy and can't find one. Gotta send the one back to Amazon. Grrrrrr... really wanted to have it here when the phone arrived.
Ok guys; so now that the phone has released and you've had a chance to try the Mini USB with the Micro USB adapter, what do we think? Everything working as it should, or should I just wait on the OEM?

You will not have 2 cables hooked to the phone. The adapter only has one port. I ordered the cable and it doesn't fit. The key to the HTC cable when it comes it is you can plug in to the micro usb and the cable has a side port for the charger to plug in.
You might try 2 of the above adapters(1 for the phone and 1 for the charger coming out the side). maybe there is a mini usb to micro y cable.
Also, I tried a cable through the 3.5mm jack with no luck.
I am just not sure if tv out is functional straight out of the box. I use appbrain on the incredible for downloading apps and when I go to manage my apps>>>tv out>>>said "this app is not executable"

TvOut app doesn't work until you connect a video cable via the microUSB
this is the same app that runs on the Windows Mobile HTC devices, except this is for Android, you don't have to run the app to get it to work either
when you connect the video cable it will ask you NTSC or PAL etc and then theres settings that you can choose from you can choose Auto, Portrait or Landscape.
and like i said guys, if you look at the miniUSB port on the adapters all over this thread, it will not work, try connecting your extUSB cables into these ports on a PS3 controller or a digital camera with the miniUSB port
the only way we can get this to work (hopefully) is to get
a miniUSB tv out cable and a microUSB to miniUSB adapter
but even then i don't think it will work since the pinouts are a little different on miniUSB
<<Thats extUSB (many times called miniUSB but its not)
<<MiniUSB pinout only has 5 pins while extUSB has 11
and does this one look familiar?
try using a miniUSB charger on a miniUSB connection on a PS3 controller or a HTC device, it won't charge unless its made for it or the pinouts are correct.
so this will involve trial and error, for those that are willing to try it for all of us
does that clarify things a little better?
edit: extUSB is the port that HTC uses on there phones/HTC TV out cables also use this, miniUSB will connect to the phone, but not the extUSB cable to a miniUSB port

Anyboby tried a mini to micro USB adapater with the TV Out cable?
I have an left-over HTC Touch Pro TV Out cable that is mentioned here for use with the HTC Mini-USB of the pre-Incredible days and wonder if anybody has gotten the Mini-USB TV out to work by simply using an adapter to change it to a "micro-USB".
I plan to get an Incredible and ask this question because I read awhile back that the "mini-USB" pin-out assignment may be custom for the TV-Out cable and makes me wonder if a simple adapter will work w/o damage to the Incredible.
So, if you've got the Incredible and TV-Out cable w/ "mini-USB" tell us if you tried an adapter and how that turned out for you.
Woops..posted this before I saw this was already asked.

Sorry,, I posted too soon and then saw the similar post with diagrams.
But, I expect we all want to know if an adapter with the old HTC cable will work>

**QUOTE THIS ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE A WORKING HTC INCREDIBLE SETUP.**
this should make it easier on weary readers,
such as myself, delving into this enormous pool
of information attempting to retain all of it!
just quote, and people can scroll down using their peripherals, see those big letters, and
voila, solution.
this is a really interesting concept,
but i just dont trust adapting on
adapting on adapters. im no new-techie,
ive been around electronics since 4.
so hows about when someone gets this
figured out, do us all a favor and quote!

Anybody know where I can buy a micro usb video out cable? we know they exist because they use one in the wirefly video review. I only see the mini usb ones....
Im not 100% sure that the cable we need is not for sale yet... but I know that I have never seen the cable that we need other than in the youtube video I posted above and the verizon launch package pdf file.
The key to this cable is the male-female micro usb passthrough allowing the Incredible to bump out video while still charging the device. To my knowledge...no other device uses this type of cable.
You can use a mini-usb -> composite, and then use a micro usb ->mini usb adapter...****BUT**** The pin orientation would have to match that of the OEM cable.
For instance the right audio channel to pins 1 and 2, left channel to pins 3 and 4...etc. If the cable you buy doesnt match the pin orientation for the OEM Incredible cable it WILL NOT work. So unless you want to buy a bunch of different cables or you are good technician....I would suggest waiting for the OEM cable.
For the guy thinking about the 5 pin cable.. it will not work. You need 2 pins for right audio, 2 pins for left audio, 2 pins for video, and 2-3 pins for power...(if your planning on adding a female connector for power.) So by my count youll need at least 6 pins for bumping out audio and video.

FINAL ANSWER

again...this is not your standard micro-usb. 5 pins isn't enough to carry anything but charge/data. What your looking at here is the modified 12 pin version for the Incredible.
So, no adapter or cable other than a 12 pin micro-usb will work. And when HTC's cable actually comes out it won't look like the normal micro-usb either. It will be keyed (similar to HTC's use of ext-usb) so it won't work with standard micro-usb ports. Just look at your Incredible port if you have one. It's that shape that the cable will be in. So, if you see a cable on line, and it doesn't look like that. Probably won't work.
A standard porting for the pin-outs is as such:
1 USB VCC +5v
2 USB Data -
3 USB Data +
4 N / C
5 USB GND
6 Left Audio +
7 Sense / Video
8 Audio - (GND)
9 Switch (Talk)
10 Right Audio +
11 Mic +
12 Chassis Ground (GND)
Just wait for the cable to come out, or fabricate your own if you have the know how.

I know it says micro but I looked at quite a few that said micro and I could tell from thier pics that they were most definitley mini. This particular one is to hard to tell. One with micro seems to be uncommon so I'm figuring this one is also stated incorrectly, so I just went ahead and ordered an adapter also seeing as I could probably make use of it somewhere else if I needed.
Seem to have lots of usb to mini's around the house but not very many micro's.
