yeah unrevoked is free and painless. a few driver and installs and your good to go. i am not really a fan of "one click" root apps in the market like that and universal androot. they let people who havent taken the time to appreciate what it is theyre doing to their phones quickly set themselves up for problems.
in my opinion if you want to root your phone then take 20-30 mins to read up on how to do it properly.

I'm curious as to why you think that app won't brick your phone? Rooting is rooting either way you look at it. you are doing things to your phone that aren't meant to be done with average use. That is why just about any rooting technique has disclaimers IN CAPS just about anywhere you look for any phone. With the unrevoked method you at least have control for the most part and are aware of what is happening and what is coming up next in the process. With apps like that who knows what they are really doing and what they have accessed or installed on you phone. As mentioned above, you may just be setting up yourself for more problems if it doesn't work.

Use unrevoked, it's so simple to do. How do you even know what this app will root the Incredible? I'm skeptical of it. I agree with howarmat, if you don't know what you're doing you should wait. There are some great guides on here for rooting and all the other good stuff.

The links you have talk about the same topic, Unrevoked 3.21 was made after that post on jonamerica.com. Follow the guide you have from the forums here. Bookmark the how-to page from jonamerica though great information on it.
