Default Dumb question ... Is the D1 Vanilla Android?

My wife and I had a pair of original Moto Droids for about 8 weeks, and absolutely loved them. Upgraded to INC's mostly because we never ever touched the keyboard, and i wanted the upgraded hardware, etc.

I am realizing i dont think i use a whole lot of Sense features. But i keep loading Sense ROM's lol. So i see there are also Vanilla ROM's, is that what was on the Moto Droid?

Are there any benefits to Vanilla over Sense, other than available widgets, features, etc? Meaning, is there speed or battery differences typically?

Thanks. Sorry for the ignorant question, just wanted to get some clarity ... and to the Mods, sorry if this was put in wrong section, i figured it belonged here since it directly relates to ROM's and Rooted options.

The Moto Droids were not vanilla or Sense. Sense is an HTC brand thing. The Moto Droids had Motoblur on them.

AFAIK, The original Moto Droid was Vanilla. They have Moto Blur ROMs, but stock was Vanilla.

Yeah, it was vanilla Android. Vanilla has no advantages over Sense, it's just what you prefer. Sense adds stuff on top of Vanilla essentially. You will see some speed improvement in Vanilla over Sense, but nothing great.

I stand corrected then. I've seen enough discussions of people on Moto Droids talking about how much they disliked Motoblur that I guess I just thought their phones came with it.

Droid 1 has Vanilla android just like the Nexus One, and now the G2. The Droid 2 has a version of blur as well as the X.

Okay so the original Droid had Vanilla from the factory. But there is really no major difference in performance.

So the only reason to go out of my way to flash a Vanilla ROM would be just because i dont like sense, or because i like Vanilla. But dont expect any battery or speed increase to speak of.

Got it, thanks for the info

Honestly I'm on CM6 a Vanilla ROM and it's much faster then any Sense or Senseless ROM I've used. Everything is just slightly quicker, my battery life is about the same as it was with a sense ROM might actually be slightly worse , I'd put that more on the Adrenyle Battery Saving Kernal teamed up with Virtuous ROM I was using more then anything.

I personally enjoy Vanilla more then Sense , but I do miss some of the Sense features

Which is it much faster or slightly quicker? But I disagree, I have tried both, the vanilla might appear faster at first, and enough people say it is faster to make you think it must be. But after a bit it seems like the same to me. But I, personally, cannot stand a vanilla rom If HTC stopped making SenseUI I would switch to a win phone 7 phone.

I really prefer the vanilla phone dialer. That is why I'm running the vanilla ROM primarily. I see some speed increases, better screen responses. Not enough to say Vanilla is the hands down winner. To me its the dialer.

Trust me everything is much faster on a Vanilla AOSP ROM compared to a Sense ROM .
The biggest tell is on a Droid Eris with Sense Roms even rooted and overclocked the phone has a ton of lag. With CM Tazz Vanilla ROM at the same clock speeds the phone has almost no lag.

The Incredible is fast no matter what you run, so you really have to look to notice it is faster , I'd say 80% of people wouldn't be able to tell the diffrence but it's there . Mainly in screen movements, bringing the notification bar down and up, and switching apps everythin is just that much quicker . I've had as many as 3 incredibles at the same time all running diffrent ROMS and I can tell you first hand AOSP ROMS are always faster

I enjoy the in call phone screen the most on Vanilla , the Dialer is great but lacks one major feature . When I want to call Dave I can just start typing Dave and he'll come up. Or if I start dialing a number is brings up matching numbers . So I use a Vanilla ROM but Dialer One for my Dialer but still get the better in call screen that just has more options then the Sense In Call Screen especially when using Google Voice

I rooted my my phone back in early September and have been running CM6 for over a month now. I love the ROM, the performance and speed is great. I haven't had a single problem with it since flashing the fix to stop the random reboots. I haven't tried any other ROMs yet but it your looking for a Vanilla ROM I'd say Cyanogen is the way to go. I've never really been a fan of Sense but I'm not saying its bad by any means either.
