We can cross that bridge when and if we get there. Hopefully the Unrevoked 3.32 reflash tool will do the job. In that event, you don't even have to mess with Unrevoked Forever.

Hey Scotty & anyone that can help... I have to leave for a while... I tried the """Place the update.zip file into the root of your SD card. You can do this with adb with the command: adb push unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/update.zip"""
with no luck...
I'm not quite sure how to do this..."""The update can be installed like any custom .zip file. Simply flash it from your custom recovery. Both Amon_RA and Clockworkmod Recoveries support custom .zip installs from the sdcard."""
Although with the sd card "possible" issues I've already have... I'm not so sure it would anyway work???? I'll check back in a bit, when I'm home. Can't thank you all enough!

Again, unless Unrevoked 3.32 did not give you s-off, there is no more need for any adb commands or using the sd card in any way whatsoever. If you did indeed fail to get s-off using Unrevoked 3.32, let us know. But is see no indication that has happened yet.

So, go here:
unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.32

Download the tool to your PC desktop. Now hook up your phone to the PC via usb cable and while in charge only mode. Then run the Unrevoked tool from the PC desktop. It should recognize your plugged in phone and apply root and s-off.

If, and only if the tool does not apply s-off properly, then we can try other means to make that happen. The Unrevoked Forever zip is just a secondary method when all else fails. If the Unrevoked reflash tool works right, it's already built in and applies it for you so no extra steps are necessary.

Error: Failed...... Is your firmware too new?
I presumed I didn't have to do the custom recovery, browse to file step?
Tried custom & still same fail...

Ok so have you verified that the downgrade worked by going to menu > settings > about phone and it says android version 2.2 right? If so, perhaps try a reboot of the phone and then try to run the tool again.

Hey guys, I think I might have a similar problem as she might be having not sure. I have followed all the steps in the original post and have been able to downgrade my phone to 2.2 no problems. It's just when I try to do the last step and run the unrevoked recovery reflash tool 3.32 it doesn't allow me too and displays this message every time "Communications with phone unexpectedly interpreted. Try again." I have tried running it numerous times and doing every thing I could thing of; restarting it, running it with the custom recovery 5.0.2.0, and running it without any custom recovery although I thought I needed to run it with one. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or why it is giving me this message? Thanks.

Have you tried restarting the PC? And are you running unrevoked as an "administrator"?

I ended up finally getting it to work, not because I restarted the computer though. After I restarted it and ran unrevoked as administrator again it gave me the same error multiple times again. I then tried plugging my phone in first and clicking on run as administrator after and this gave me root access and s-off. I don't know why it worked that way and not when I had tried it by plugging the phone in after, but hope that might help someone if they have the same problem.

Multiupload seems to be dead. Would it be possible to re-post the two files from there? I've search this thread for updated links and didn't find any. I also didn't find the file anywhere else on the web.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry I took so long to get back at cha'... Had a few things to do before I could chance loosing my only phone connection to the outside world. lol

Soooo... Yep... Doing the happy chicken dance... s-off

Any suggestions/opinions on best custom rom that either already is rid of bloatware or is easy to get rid of? Or should I ask/search for such in forums, to be proper & all? I have a bit, just don't find a lot of details anywhere about said roms & to make matters worse... Ya just never know, when people say droid incredible, if they truly mean 1 or 2.

hooray! its been a long and fustrating journey for you for sure

as for roms,i personally prefer AOSP,so i try and run that wherever possible. cm7 works great on the inc,but if you prefer a stockish, sense rom,ill let the others make some suggestions for that,im pretty put of touch with inc roms

congrats again on the s off

Danke I will check out AOSP... See if I can figure out if it's good with incredible 1(One! lol)... But otherwise yea, cm7 seems the only other way I can figure is best to go... cm9 sounds a bit too risque for my taste, just yet.

And yes Please, I welcome anyone's input on what they prefer, Especially if known to work with incredible1(One!lol)

I see that AOSP is not a specific rom in itself... Though I get it...
So, even more so, suggestions welcome...

psssttt... Scotty or Anyone else that can help...
Point me to a "simpleton" way, knowing the issues I've had ... to flash the cm7.2... Or is it same steps as the ruu? I've read around & some of the "how to's" are a bit confusing to me... Anyway, many thanks to any help...

flashing the roms is a bit outside the scope of this thread, there is lots of info on that if you search thru the forums. if you want to link a couple guides youve found,we can comment on them in those threads, and if you start a new post in the forum, youll get lots of good advice from knowledgeable members that just arent seeing your questions in this thread.

in a nutshell, you will download the rom you want to flash. with cm7 you will also need to download a second file to flash, called "gapps". gapps is simply googles proprietary apps that are not legally allowed to be included in the cm7 rom. if you dont flash the gapps right after flashing cm7,you wont have the market, gmail,or a couple others.

so:
-download cm7 and gapps
-place them both on your sd card. do not unzip.
-boot to recovery(power off, power on to hboot, chose recovery. or use an app like "quickboot")

*using recoverys menu options(been awhile since ive used clockwork,so i dont remember them exactly):
-make a backup of your current setup
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik cache
-flash cm7
-flash gapps
-reboot
-collect underpants
-???
-profits!

(ok,those last 3 were from southpark,so dont do those ) but the rest of it is a basic outline of what youll do. when flashing the zips,no need ot rename them "update.zip" there will be an option to "chose zip from SD card" so you can just find your zips and flash them.

so if you still have some questions, direct us to some new threads,or start up your own new thread and well be happy to continue helping

edit: the best advice i think you can get as a new rooter(IMO,at least) is DO NOT use rom manager. it is known to eff things up,and when it does you will have to have the knowledge to fix them manually in clockwork recovery. rom manager is an APP in a WORKING ROM and as such, will not always be available to you to use. it is much safer and reliable to manually manipulate things in clockwork recovery.

Sorry , as I said, just wanted ya to "point me to a How To" & maybe give me some tips Because of your knowledge of my Possible sd card issues. As I'm worried that because of such issues, that anything I do involving the sd card may fail. I appreciate the tips A lot! Though i will do some reading, not so sure I'm going to be doing any flashing now, knowing the difficulties, tedious details, sd card issues That could ultimately ruin my phone. since you are able to move the files to your sd card, and see them with a file manager,i do not believe that you will have any prollems with it flashing roms. rom flashing in recovery is not nearly as "picky" as the RUU flashing in hboot. as long as you can see the file on the sd with a file manager, you should be able to flash it in recovery

if i knew of a good guide for you,id would point you to it we are all quite willing to help,so just holler when you have questions.i dont mean to come across like the help is over once youre rooted

you will have to do something,as at some point the OTA notifications will start(if they havent allready) and will become quite relentless in their plight to make you update the best way to deal with the OTAs is to flash a custom rom,or even restore your gingerbread backup,if you made one.

dont be afraid to flash. tryin out different roms is part of the fun of bein rooted,IMO. as long as you make that backup, you can always restore it and pick up exactly where you left off in the case that the new rom doesnt work out.

Congrats sweetb on getting root and s-off! I don't know of a how to thread for roms but I'd be more than happy to give you my personal method for flashing if you're interested. If so, start up a new thread in this same forum so we can keep discussion here dedicated to the rooting/downgrading/s-off stuff just to keep a good flow. I'll be looking out for new threads. Congrats again.

Thanks Scotty... & yes, the annoying ota notifications started pretty immediately, although i did expect this & have a fairly high tolerance for minor annoyances (I'm a mommy... lmao)

As for not using Rom Manager, than what? Though perhaps Iowa can/will explain that well enough, if only I knew how the heck to start a new thread in here! lmao I feel soooo UN for not knowing that!

i suggest not using rom manager,as its an APP that requires a working rom in order to be available to you. if you have a bad flash, wich is no biggie, its happend to all of us,it can leave you hung at a splash screen,in a bootloop,or into a non-working rom with no market and no way to side-load apps

this can cause quite a moment of panic if rom manager is the only thing that you know how to use. ive seen the painced posts in many forums during my time here.

rather than use rom manager, you will use Amon or clockwork recovery.i personally prefer amon, but the choice is yours, and either should accomplish what you need it to.

your permanently installed recovery(amon or clockwork) will ALWAYs be there for you. in a working rom,you can use the "boot to recovery" option in an app called quickboot,or you can even use the "boot to recovery" option in *cough* rom manager. if you get stuck with a non booting rom, just pull the battery, boot to hboot via power/vol down, and then after the green writing flashes, select "recovery" with the volume rocker and power button.

a good first step would be to simply go to recovery somehow(either of the methods above) and explore the menus. see if you can figure out how to make a nandroid backup. you can then search or ask us specific questions about manuvering in recovery.

last and not least, there is a "new thread" button at the top left, above the sticky threads at the top of the forum. click that, and ask away

edit: if you use clockwork, youll use the optic trac-thingy to highlight and select various options. the power button does NOT select,it takes you back a menu. if you happen to be at the main menu,it takes you to a screen with the rom manager logo(the hat). this has caused alot of folks some confusion

easiest way would be to just flash it in recovery.

superuser 3.0.7 from public:revolutionary [RootWiki]

flash it just like a rom. put on root of sd card, boot to recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash superuser

The file or folder is on the root? If you have all the files on the root, create a new folder and place all the files into the folder.
If you meant the folder is on the root, try changing the folder name to something else, without underscores or hyphens.

I have the miniadb zip file on the root & I even tried unzipping it & doing the command & it still didn't work. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow & see if that works. Thanks.

you definately need to have the mini-adb_inc folder extracted,or unzipped. if you are leaving the file zipped up,then you cand CD to it.

as sdraw said, try changing the name, some folks have had issues with the name.

if the unzipped folder is on the root of the C drive,i cant think of any other reasons that the comand doesnt work and change you to that directory

Hey, I am having a problem with the unrevoked. After installing the Hboot interface, when i plug in my phone it goes to charge and USB Debugging / Charge only, for about 2 seconds, then it turns off the charge, and then it turns on again. Its like an intermittent charge. I dont feel i did anything wrong installing the drivers. They show up fine in HBOOT. I tried to leave it in HBOOT and root that way and it did not work. Can someone help me?

Try another USB cable or USB port or computer.

I have tried 2 different usb cables and 2 different usb ports. No such luck. Wihtout the HBOOT driver loaded (uninstalled) it doesnt do that, once i install it, it starts intermittently going in and out.

Weird, try uninstalling the drivers and then installing them again.

thAT is wierd. what drivers are you using?

you might try these: revolutionary modified htc drivers

all i had to do on my laptop, was run that .exe file. if that doesnt work, you could try manually updating by extracting, and directing device manager to that unzipped folder.

Ill give it a try tonight when i get home! I manually did the first ones just like unrevoked showed, and everything worked perfect. I have one inc that has been rooted long ago and that wouldnt hold the charge either once the drivers were installed. i will give it a try though tonight. Thank you!

That sounds like a computer issue then... you could try rooting off an Ubuntu live CD or USB drive.
