You should be able to follow this guide:
Download 3026.prl (Latest) and Update Instructions! (Regularly Updated)
Updating the PRL isn't really phone specific, so those instructions should work for you.
I wouldn't try the *228 method, but in theory it should work. Worst case scenario, you would just have to flash the phone back to metro.
