Default [Radio] The Official Radio Thread

Hey folks,

Many thanks to the unrevoked team for all the help they have done to move this community along, and for the toys they have provided us. Please DO NOT give me any credit for these.

Below you will find a link of the radios I am hosting. I take no credit for them, NOR DO I SUPPORT THEM. These are all at your own risk, and are provided without warranty, and any damage that comes from them, is your own fault. Using any of these voids your warranty.

Listing of MD5s:
1.00.00.02.09: 62C2E284B56A07D67F803097B18D49E2 Pre-release radio

How to install:

1. You need s-off via Unrevoked's tools.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
2. Once s-off has been obtained, power off phone. Hold DOWN volume and press power. This accesses the hboot screen. The PB31IMG.zip needs to be on the base of your sd card. Hboot will see it and ask to update it. Do NOT battery pull or do this on low battery life.

MD5 calculator to check your file integrity:

1. Install, and then download your file. Once done, right click and choose md5 calculator. Your number should match the appropriate one listed above.

Use the one that works best for you!

I am curious about the 2.07 and the new 2.15.
Its also nice to see a packaged 2.05 so we don't have to mess with that stupid ota.

I'm on radio version 2.15.00.07.28 right now but ever since updating from 2.05 I have had nothing but 3g problems my phone either has no data or 1x never 3g , tried about everything so can I try going to 2.15.00.09.01 or back to 2.05 ??

or do I need to revert to an older radio first ? I want to try all my options of fixing my phone before replacing it

with s-off you can install any radio no problem.
1.x radios on froyo may cause some video recording problems but will still function.
2.x radios on eclair should be fine.

The danger before was when we were using radio patch files. They have no error checking, just overwrite whatever the hell they want. So it only works once.

These are full images. Two of them were built by a member of Unrevoked (2.05 and 2.07). I had their blessing to post this thread.

If you are looking for a list of "new features" or something you will not find one. Radios will affect everyone differently and since this was just posted last night I don't think anyone has had much time to test.

Just install it and see if your reception or data improves.
if not try a different one

It sounds like you know your radio stuff. Would you be so gracious as to tell me why different radios affect phones differently? Is there a way to figure it out besides trial and error?

Thankss

Its mainly due to location. Some people might have better luck in their area with one radio while that same radio sucks where you live.

To be honest I haven't seen much difference with any of them but I really don't pay much attention to my reception unless its gone lol. but yes its just trial and error for the most part. i think its probably best to just stick with what you have unless you are having issues.

I have them as well. I just noticed today that you are pretty close to where I work. I've been having reception problems only at work this weekend with the exception of today so far. I was use to seeing 1x a lot with 2.1 because where I am located in the building. However, with 2.2 OTA I've completely lost both 3g and 1x at least 3 times already. I have never lost 1x or had to employ Airplane Mode/reboot the Dinc with 2.1 in my office before.

What area of NJ you in? Ive never ever had any service issues. It seems that my service while inside of places has just been destroyed. When im out and about i get 5bars alot of places. I just flashed then ew 2.x radio and it seems to be about the same. =(

And its defiantely the phone, because im holding a blackberry bold and a curve in my hand and I dnt have service issues, neither do the demo phones in my store.

My reception is so much better from 1.00.03.04.06 to 2.15.00.07.28.

People kept saying there wasn't a call quality fix in the update but I disagree. The ringing used to be underwater garbled and voices weren't defined.

With the new radio I find the underwater garble is gone and voices are more defined.

Happy here

I am recently on 2.15.00.09.01 from 2.15.00.07.28
I am enjoying better call quality, which I do not believe to be a placebo effect, as well as better data transfer which is quite possibly a placebo effect.

I'm definitely experiencing "smoother" reception, if that even makes sense. It's like the connection doesn't jump as much and I can hold a weaker signal for longer. I live way out in the country and hardly get 1-2 bars, it used to jump around a lot on 7.28....no longer an issue with 9.01.

Same here, except I live in a large city and Verizon is just lazy about getting a decent signal in my neighborhood.

Noob question here. I've never flashed just a radio before. Will flashing this delete anything from my phone or can I flash it and nothing but the radio will change? I don't want to go through backing up titanium and restoring.

It will delete the crap out of your old radio firmware... but that's it.

I flashed the 9.01 radio and so far I love it. Reception is terrible where I live so small improvements make a huge difference. At first the battery seemed to be draining worse after this radio flash, but after having recharged it now seems to be doing better than ever. If I discover different results I'll holler on the thread but so far this is really cool.

so i can't help but notice the latest ota radios for evo and incredible are the same version number. is this a major coincidence or are they compatible with each other?

please don't try one if you don't know... might not be good for your phone.

Flashing a bad radio will brick your phone (so I've been told).

I wonder about that. You could always mount your usb from recovery, install another and then flash it. From what I understand, if your phone turns on it's not bricked.

only real issue I had with the official froyo radio was the fact that if I turned off always enable 3g mobile data like I did in 2.1 that the 3g didn't come back on like it used to... I get good battery life with 2.2 with 3g always on but I'm sure I could get better if I turned it off like I did in 2.1

I just recently flashed the 9.01 update and I have yet to be able to connect to 3g or 1x. All I'm able to see is my signal strength. Any suggestions? Downgrade back to 1?

I tried all of them to find out what works best. The problem with the 1.x is that you'll get video and camera issues with Froyo. So the 2.x radios are best for FroYo

Hey, how are you doing with your phone? You doing better? I just flashed the 9.01 radio and it's pretty much the same for me. But my battery life is getting better by the day. Not even bumping any more, bedtime at 70 something %.

I was nervous about upgrading the radio because of reports I have read of people having problems...but it sure worked out well for me. I went from the 2.05 radio to the 9.01.

It resulted in about triple the 3G speeds and what appears to be substantially better battery life.

Nope , tried every radio, tried a ton of Roms, unrooted, when to stock 2.1 , did full wipes, long battery pulls etc... and nothing . So I'm going to "lose" my phone and make an asurion claim. Might be picking up an Eris with a cracked screen today of Clist for $40 to use for a couple days, just tried to get some of my old phones going and the Storms battery is shot and my old LG vx9800 just won't turn on lol... Weird considering they worked fine before

I have been using the 9.01 radio for a couple days now and I think I am getting better battery life but I tend to change other things so much I cannot be sure it is the radio. So, take that for what it is worth.

I am definitely getting an improvement in reception though it is but a small improvement.

The one negative I've had is that I've had a garbled bleed-over happen for a few seconds once and an echo-back once during calls. I'm still keeping and evaluating, I will probably stay with this radio unless something better pops up or I experience more/worse problems.

I have 2 Erises, rooted, perfect condition. I can loan you one, you pay shipping. Not even activated. PM me if you want it, I can call you later. Out for a ride now. I can probably get it to a Fedex or something later today.

I actually thought of selling one of them for a while but decided against it. We have 3 Incredibles in the family now and the Erises are a great phone in case something happens to one of them. We have insurance on the DIs for a while but ... don't know really. Hard to part with it for a paltry sum of perhaps $100 on a good day. Besides I like playing around with the Roms for it and perhaps helping someone out that needs it for a while as the case may be here.

Whatever you got your phone for, it was priced that way with a contract. Buying a phone stand-alone with no contract is quite another thing. For instance, if one were to buy an Incredible stand-alone the price would be like $500 or more.

I didn't buy the Incredible. I bought an Eris and cos it sucked so bad, they let me keep it sell it make $150, and gave me the Incredible for free for opening a new two year contract.

Nevertheless, the principle of the point I was making still stands.

Sorry I missed your initial post. I got what you're saying. It's BS! and it's how they make their money. Too many people have one.two year contracts, and have the money to have the latest and greatest and will pay that price. I remember paying $400 for a moto Razr when it first came out for straight up price!!! WOW.

Some people don't get the fact that a phone is worth more stand alone then on a contract. A Good Condition Eris is worth beetween $80-$140 depending on it's condition, accessories etc..

$40 will barely buy you a basic flip phone used

edit : sorry for pushing the topic more off course then it already was

Precisely. To me, the only part that is BS is that the phone carriers should sell the contracts cheaper if you buy the phone at full retail. You are paying for the phone through the contract over time, so why don't they discount the contract when the phone is not involved?

Answer: Because they can.

And you are right, we should get back on topic, sorry.

Personally if you pay $80-$120 for an Eris, you got ripped.
