Default Droid Incredible Messages Loading Slowly

Hi, I have had the Droid Incredible for a month and a half now and my text messages are filling up. One girl I have 2500 messages from and the loading is pretty slow. Its pretty annoying waiting to reply and everything else on the phone is lightning fast so I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on how to have them speed up or settings that would help. Please tell me anything that would make these messages load faster. Thanks.

P.S. I understand deleting the messages will make it fast but erasing them takes way too long and its annoying. Also i need a lot of my messages.

You're either going to have to switch SMS apps and use something like Handscent, or delete them. There is no work-around for this problem.

Can you please confirm? I searched the market for Handscent, didn't find it. I'm having the same problem as well.

Thanks!

Try searching for Handcent, no 's'. I used to have the same issue, and Handcent defnitely loads them up faster. I do highly recommend deleting them sometime though because once you get above 1000+ messages, it really takes an eternity to delete messages, and both Handcent and the stock app cannot handle it, and you will have to resort to one of the handful SMS delete apps that are on the market.

Deleting them doesn't take long. On the main screen of "Messages", long press the person and select "Delete messages from Contact". Gone.

I have been experiencing the same problem...there is a free app you can download from the market called SMS Cleaner (free version). This allows you to delete old messages based on a time period (exa: delete all messages older than 10 days, 6 weeks, etc.). You can also delete messages for particular contacts, as well as by keyword (exa: any messages that contain a particular word or name). This app will NOT delete any MMS texts, however. Which can be a good thing, because you are less likely to delete pictures you may want to save.
