Notsure TL-Bootstrap? HTC software on my PC

Hey there, I can't find an answer anywhere, so if this is a duplicate post - sorry.

Just got the new Froyo 2.2 update this weekend for my HTC Incredible, and also updated a few other apps (like Flash to the update update 10.1.9x)... went to plug my phone in to my PC, and I get an app that is forcing itself to load onto my computer. It's filename is TL-Bootstrap.exe and looks like it's published by HTC. The little pop-up says "Software is available that will help your Android phone communicate with your PC."

Well, that's crock. My phone was communicating just fine before! Why do I have to have this? I love to have my phone plugged into my work PC, and can't install anything like this at work. I've noticed without installing it, it makes my PC's Window Explorer sluggish (one PC wont' work at all, but it's old).

What the heck is this and why do I need it? Has anyone figured this out? Thanks

I am having the same issue. I will let you know if I get it figured out or find a way to disable it. I installed everything and it still persists.

Mad HTC Sync Freezes after 2.2 update

I am having the same issue with the forced software install and I can't seem to figure it out but I do know this. I had to factory reset to get my browser to work after the update and ever since the update my HTC sync locks up. My main beef is that I can not sync my contacts with Outlook anymore and this is huge for me. I can work around the calender with Google sync for Outlook but I need my contacts to sync. Any fixes, patches or anyone out there having HTC sync issues? Everything was working great before the update, I was very pleased and now it looks like it might be time to cosider another phone which blows because I have only had this one for less than a month. By the way, I installed the driver update and it made no difference. The other TL-Bootstrap.exe folder your referred to when clicked on it takes you to a download site and ad for Vcast on Verizons website. Well thats a load, who wants Verizon forcing software down your throat and especially not that POS Vcast. HTC lsync locks up after the updat; causing Phone to PC connection to be sporatic too.

Default Work-Around

I've found a work around that at least stops the annoying attempt to install the v-cast drivers. I went into the device manager and disabled the cd/dvd associated with the HTC Android Phone USB Device. So far it hasn't returned.

I'll have to try that, but it sounds like the software is a POS anyway? Just more usual bloatware?

Plus, this isn't something I'll be able to do my work PC anyway... I wonder what will happen when I go back on Tuesday... Hmmm...

bump..

I haven't installed this yet, but I have disabled the drive from loading in Windows (through device mgr). Now, when I want to go take a screenshot using the Android Developer Kit, it locks up my whole system until I unmount the phone, and therefore lose my screenshot.

Anyone else give it a try yet?
