Default DINC Camera - Black Screen?

I got a used DINC from a friend, and loving it overall so far.

For the first month of having the phone, everything worked fine, including the camera. A few days ago, the camera stopped working. If I open the camera app, camcorder app, or a third party camera app, it displays the load screen, then the whole screen goes to black. No menus, button responses, or anything. All I can do is hit the home button which returns to the home screen.

I have tried safe mode, then a hard reset, with the same results so I don't think it is any third party apps. I took the phone apart (it's out of warranty), and checked the camera sensor itself. It doesn't have any signs of damage, and I removed and reseated it so it's not an issue of it popping out of place. The flash still works when used with a flashlight app. I'm running the stock Android 2.3.4.

It seems like it may be a hardware issue, but nothing happened to the phone when it stopped working. I'd hate to order a replacement camera part that doesn't work (I can't even find an original part so I question how the replacement I found would work). Anyone else have this issue or any insight?

First off, I'd like to extend a welcome to Android Forums to you. I'm sorry it's a problem that has brought you here. I hope someone has keen advice on how you should proceed. I have never experienced such nor heard of another similar problem.
It does sound hardware related being as it acts the same with different camera apps.
Best of luck.

I found your post while searching because I was having a similar issue. Sometimes my camera would even work and take pictures before freezing. I seem to have fixed it by wiping the cache and davlik cache 3 times each. I also cleared off the SD card and wiped the camera application's data.
