Well, you can add me to this list. After reading this thread, I got a bit paranoid because I haven't actually used the phone to call anyone since I got it on the 29th. I went out to my car and called my wife to test it and I only got to talk for a couple minutes, but there was noticeable static when she spoke. It wasn't enough to keep me from understanding her, but a bit distracting nonetheless. I may just have to deal with a stat-icky reception if I want to keep this phone (don't really want to go back to my blackberry).

So my first Incredible had fantastic call quality, but the phone died within 2 days and I had to have it replaced. My replacement phone has had horrible call quality regardless of the signal strength I have. I have to turn the volume all the way up and even then people sound muffled and cut in and out. If this continues, I'll see if I can get another replacement...

My signal varies around -100 in my house (and I have a Network Extender). I drop calls all the time and get a "signal fade" message on the INC.

There were no reception issues with my prior phone (RAZR) and my wife's DARE and son's ENVY also never drop calls.

It's a fantastic device but I have no choice other than to return it.

At first I thought it may be just because I was calling others on cell phones but it does the same for land lines.
This is the same for me. Even the ringing breaks up. This is my second Incredible and I am waiting for the store to get more stock to switch again.

I called HTC and they never heard about the issue. They suggested sending it in for repairs rather than exchanging to ensure I got my problem resolved.

Does VZW even know that this is an issue affecting us?

For some reason I think the speaker is just bad quality.

After reading through several other threads it seems like no one at HTC or Verizon has heard about this issue. Have we all just posted here in the forum about it without actually calling and complaining? lol.

Anyways, I will be calling Verizon again and swapping out my phone again. Perhaps if enough of us do that they will notice there is indeed an issue that needs addressed.

It seems to me that the quality is much better on the speaker phone, than through the ear piece. But I've only noticed that between two separate calls, which could have been the difference. Next time I'm having trouble with the ear piece quality, I need to switch right away to speaker phone and see if it's better.

My problem isn't garbled speech; it's VOLUME. I have it set to highest levels, yet still get a very soft level from whomever I'm speaking with. With no one else so far complaining about this, I wonder if I should ask for a new phone. (Music levels are perfect.) Or is this common?

Default Incredible poor call quality

I agree 100% i got my incredible the 29th and I hear exact same thing as you. Had mine exchenged once, and I think verizon knows there is a proble, but not admitting it. I hear everything you hear. Well, today I returned mine and went back to my Eris until they fix the issue. The call quality on the eris was awesome. Also te signal strength on the incredible was sooo super poor. Get it togther Verizon!!!

I've had my Incredible since the 29th (yes, I had to wait) and it is been fantastic except for one important thing - call quality.

I know everyone in here has been discussing signal strength and bars, but I've been experiencing very poor quality in calls. It only seems to be the audio I'm hearing (people on the other end say I sound fine) that is bad - with everything from little 1 second "scuffs" (sounds like someone blowing on the phone mic), to 1 second moments of silence while someone is talking, to what sounds like auto-tune on the person's voice. When there isn't distortion the person sounds kind of muffled. Many times even the audio of the ringing cuts out a couple times or sounds distorted when calling someone.

Anyone on here experiencing a similar issue? I stopped by my local VZW store to which the technician didn't feel there was a problem and refused to replace my phone (although they had no new phones anyways). I've done a hard reset to remove any apps that may be interfering with the calls and it's still the same. Also have tested at least 50 calls in several areas of Rochester, NY (30ish mile radius) over the past 4 days.[/QUOTE]

Honestly, the call quality on my env2 (which i was switching from) was a HECK of a lot better than my Incredible is, so I'm thinking obviously there has to be a problem. I am considering exchanging it for a replacement in hopes that the replacement will be better. It is good to see that there are people out there who are reporting that they are getting great quality because now we know it is not all phones and only a certain percentage.

Well I know at least one Verizon store has heard about the issues from me but I doubt Debbie Low Tech is going to send this one up the corporate chain.

I'm coming from AT&T (iPhone 3G) and although I had dropped calls all the time, the quality was fine. I was really shocked when I made a call the first time on the Incredible and from the first ring it sounded garbled, kind of cutting in and out. Same as most others, people say I sound fine, it's just on my end it sounds bad.

I've spent all weekend customizing my phone to my liking and I REALLY don't want to exchange it....but this is one of the reasons I switched from AT&T, so what's the point if the quality sucks? I'm in Omaha, NE and signal seems fine, just the quality is never clear.
The replacement was the same, maybe worse. I was on mine from Thursday night to Sunday night customizing too with about 4-5 hours sleep each night. I didn't talk on it much until late Sunday which is when I realized there was a problem with the sound & signal. I talked with the same people that I always talk with. I never had sound or signal problems with my Razr v9m

The Rep told me that they sold all of the Incredibles received last Thursday and that I'm the only one that's had problems with the phone. Imagine that! There were only "2" defective phones in that shipment and "Incredibly" I got both of them!

I'm replacing it Thursday for my 3rd Incredible as soon as the shipment arrives. The sales rep stated that she will refund my money if it's bad.

What a huge let down after waiting since November for an Incredible phone!

I've have waited since Nov 2009 for the Incredible. Everything is perfect, except, call quality on my end "only". Add me to the poor quality list, too. Most unfortunate. What else will there be to wait for........."again"?! This really is such a wonderful handset, but, if I can't hear, and, always ask "what did you say?", I will wait again.

Well, same here. I set up a family plan with 2 Inc's & 2 Samsung Intensity's. The only problem I'm experiencing so far is the call quality. It's "choppy" when ringing & the person i'm listening to sounds "digital" kind of distorted. The signal bars are all over the place, but I don't really care about that. I'm going to take one of the samsungs tomorrow to see if this is an issue with the phone or the network. I'm coming from tmobile & have never had call quality issues with my last phone. I really want to keep this phone but it need's to perform as a phone before all the other stuff.

Just to confirm if it matters any I work very very close to verizon antennas that I might as will be inside and have full bars all day long but my call quality is still muffled and horrible sounding. I dont think it has anything to do with reception but probably the quality of the speaker on the phone. just thought i'd throw that out there since everyones blaming the reception on the device and the speaker has not been mentioned.

Does anyone have a damn Incredible with good sound. I've received one from online and a swap from the store. They both blow with call quality. I see some people say they have great call quality. I can't imagine receiving two lemon phones, unless they are all bad. Anyone have any ideas what's going on. is it the hardware or a baseband issue.

I am sorry to hear that some many people are having problems, but I think the call quality on this phone has been great. Maybe the quality on my Treo sucked so bad, LOL. I could not even use my Treo when in the basement (no signal). The signal and reception in my basement with the DI has been great.

I have one with good sound quality. Not braging, I'm only posting this because you asked. I am coming from an LG Voyager and I always had to ask people to repeat what they said. Absolutely, all the time I had to ask my son what he just said. I blamed it on "teen speak" He always sounded like he had marbles in his mouth and he mumbled. I bought two Incredibles, one for me and one for him. All of the sudden I can hear every word he says. I've never asked him to repeat anything. I sound good to him and he sounds great to me.

I'm starting to wonder if there is a factor other than the phone. Perhaps something on the accounts that the Incredible chokes on.

Me, and plenty of other people ( including it seems like all the people that have reviewed it ) have good call quality...and yet those that have bad call quality, replace the phone and it's still bad time and again.

I DEFINITELY noticed the poor call quality on this phone. Noticed on the very first call in the first 5 seconds. I thought I had the settings wrong somewhere. After reading this thread, I guess I'm not alone.

HOWEVER, I recently picked up a Plantronics Voyager 510 and the call quality sounds great through it. I assume then that the problem is with the ear speaker on this phone. Hell, even speaker phone sounds better.
I bet that is not a software fix.

I had serious issues when I first got the phone. The volume was very low, and turning the in-call volume up or down made no change. Restored to factory default, and it was fine. Installed all my apps, and it still seems fine. Landlines are great, and wireless are decent.

Default I thought it was just me till I saw this thread

Mine seems to be both ways. The first time I used the phone my girlfriend said "your voice echos".

I also find that I am having ask people to repeat themselves and my calls are shorter as the sound quality is tinny and causes fatigue.

I am am not ready to give up on this phone.

Yup, Ive experienced the same thing with bluetooth. I have the jabra stone and it sounds great but i dont always like using bluetooth for everything and speaker sound is very important to me since i use it all the time.

I was trying to determine if it was just the ear piece speaker but on mine it's both the speakerphone and ear piece that are doing it.

Just got mine yesterday (purchased on eBay). Call quality is perfect, even with only 1 or 2 bars. In fact, I had to turn down volume for calls because it was too loud.

Just another data point...

I'm in the same boat here. I find myself making random guesses as to what the person I'm talking to is saying because I can't say "what" every 3 seconds. It doesn't matter where I am, it seems to be pretty consistantly bad. Everything else about this phone is amazing, but it should be first and formost, a phone, and work as such.

I'll be calling Verizon later to see what they have to say.

I exchanged my Incredible at Best Buy last night. I can confidently say that the new Incredible is at least 75% better. Maybe 1 out of every 15+ words is muffled. Also, now I can be talking and the other person can interrupt and I actually hear what they say. I wouldn't say the quality is on par with what I experienced on the Droid (I had it for 3 days), but it is definitely manageable now. I'd be tempted to replace it again and see if I can get that top quality that everyone is talking about, but I don't want to risk getting another unusable Incredible.

Also, the new Incredible I received was from a different Best Buy (my original BB was sold out) and was also their second batch of Incredibles (they sold out of the first batch on the 29th and received a 2nd batch earlier this week), so I don't know if the batches have anything to do with it.

I'd suggest a least exchanging once rather than returning it and giving up.

I too am worried about making it worse.. will they let me do multiple exchanges for the same phone (I bought from VZW online) if I get another dud?

Also, I swear I saw a post about an OTA patch to address voice quality yesterday.. is there any more news on this?

That person was misinformed/making stuff up. Engadget posted an article confirming that it was just an update for business users to address exchange related bugs.

I just got off the phone with my sister and could hardly hear her. Funny cause we were talking and I mentioned that I just moved to Verizon and she said so did she. We both were mentioning how we should have just stuck with ATT because we were a lot happier with our phones then. She had some samsung phone and hated it.

I love this phone but christ the call quality sucks. If it doesn't improve by the end of the 30 days it is going back.

Coming from an iPhone I have to say the call quality on my incredible is terrible. this is my second one, and they both had the same issue. People are just not clear on the other end, and I must say its really annoying! both my blackberries and iPhone are much clearer, not louder, but much clearer. I may return and wait for the EVO. I have an incredible being shipped to me from Verizon, for which I had to give them a credit card and let them charge me $199, and when I send back this one they will refund... to me not cool, but whatever, I really like the phone and want to get a good working one. all in all, I'm really surprised at how many people are complaining about this. for a phone to be so new, and have call quality issues on the supposedly best network around is not a good sign! Time will tell if this can be fixed with an update!

I just got mine last night and have been bugging all my friends and family to test the call quality. The main issue for me, like some others have posted, is volume. I have the call volume cranked all the way up, and at that level, I would say the volume at the ear speaker is "normal." My LG Dare will get much louder, and in fact I like my phone loud because I usually don't press it hard against my ear unless I'm outdoors or in a noisy environment. Then I can still hear the person without sticking my finger in my other ear. In fact, with my Dare I can call the pharmacy and key in my prescription numbers and hear the prompts well enough without activating the speaker phone. I haven't tried the hearing aid setting, but don't feel I should need to. There has got to be something wrong here, or maybe the LG is just exceptionally loud. But I've had umpteen cell phones since they weighed 10 pounds and all were louder than this.

Sound quality to me is just ok. I can hear voices reasonably clearly and haven't experienced garbled sound, echo or clipped words. Everyone I have called says they can hear me loud and clear.

So far, the call quality isn't a deal breaker, but given there are fairly few complaints about the call volume I wonder if I have a defective phone. I hope not because the phone is perfect in every other way and who knows what problems I might have with a replacement.

I love this phone too, but I'm going to have to return it if it's not fixed or Verizon acknowledges that a fix is in the works.

I returned mine at Best Buy today. With the new phone, people still sound a bit muffled, and I detect a bit of clipping. However, not bad enough to have to ask anyone to repeat themselves or have to guess at what was said.

Waiting to see how battery does after a few cycles to break it in as well as get a better idea of call sound quality. If battery is good and sound holds at this level, I'll stick with this one.

Fwiw, if any of you bought through best buy, the return was easy, no questions asked, quick and easy.

Ziplip mr. incredible

Like everybody else I got DINC on the 29th and the first thing I noticed was crappy signal and crappy call quality. There is a lot of thread out there claiming low signal doesn't represent true dbm. But guess what? It does. This phone sucks...it's having the most beautiful sport car but with no steering wheel.

Ummm.... so is swapping out for a different unit even worth it? Has anybody seen a significant improvement by doing this? It seems like almost everybody is complaining about the low volume/muffled sound out of the ear piece. This doesn't seem like a defect to me; more like every phone has this issue?

ZARIMAN. that's my case. I've gotten 2 that sound shitty. I've called Verizon twice and one tech said he heard of the issue and that it's not fixable and to swap it out. I did and it still sucks, getting a third tomorrow. If it doesn't fix it i'm just gonna eat it and get beat. Man these cell companies always beat ya.

Woke up this morning and saw System Update notification! So for a brief moment I thought hey! Maybe the Verizon tech I worked with yesterday pushed something out to me! Nope, sure enough it was just the exchange bug fix update. Calls on my 1998 Nokia still sound better.

Speaking to a Verizon tech yesterday we went through a bunch of things, he reset something for my number (PR something or another?) but unfortunetly calls still sound as bad or worse. He looked for open tickets and saw only a couple other ones that seemed similar to the call quality issues so it doesn't appear they are barely aware of this. Everyone that's having issues should call Verizon customer support and work with a technician to log the issue, even if it doesn't get resolved immediately for you. Without them knowing they aren't going to use many resources to resolve something they don't know about.

It may be useful for the people experiencing this issue to post part of the serial number. This will help us determine if it was a bad batch that went out, or if there is some sort of pattern to the ones with poor call quality.

Last 6 of mine are J01277. If that's enough?

I feel like a fool saying it, but I am at the point where I cannot tell whether my call quality is poor or not. Many of the people whom I have spoken with since I got this phone last Thursday mumble a lot, so I am used to asking them to repeat themselves.

I occasionally get little quips / noise during the ringing, but as far as I can remember, the same thing happened on my blackberry as well. My signal strength is around -80 - (-70) dBm in State College, PA (aka: a small college town surrounded by farms).

Sadly my girlfriend and I are both experiencing this issue. We purchased them on the 29th from a BestBuy in NYC. Of those who have swapped their phone for a new one, what was your success rate? Did you have any problems finding a store with an available unit for exchange?

Poor call quality here in Kansas as well. Voice is chopping in and out, must ask caller to repeat several times. Muffled as well. Only on my receive end. I use my old Rzr to check with same callers and that phone quality is great. Incredible, is not incredible as far as cq goes right now.

My words exactly...LOVE all of the options, look and feel of the Incredible... but the battery is horrendous and so is the INCOMING call quality (those on the other end say I sound wonderfully clear). Not sure what I'll do as the thirty day mark approaches...hate to give it up, but....

My return to best buy was quick and easy. They had plenty of incredibles. I'm in a fairly small metro area though (read: 125k). The replacement truly does sound better, but clipping and muffled voice is still there.

I'd actually roll the dice and try a return again, especially as I have yet to put the time into customizing the 2nd one. However, the battery life on this second one is better than my first and I'm liking that.

Of all things, I did not expect to look back fondly at my AT&T call quality.
