Default How do I get MMS not to be a slideshow?

Hey guys,
Just wondering is there is a way to take slide show off when I receive a picture message? its annoying I receive one picture go to view it it displays for 5 seconds and then goes back to the text... Is there a way that it doesn't have to be view in slide show mode?
Thanks!

I've looked for this before and couldn't find any options for it...it does suck when you're trying to see something in the pic and it closes out.

A simple answer is you cannot unless you install an app, however the app that i find to be the best with it is Handcent, no more edit to put a message with pictures, and it shows the picture you sent in the thread pretty nifty.

Not very good reviews. Looks like it causes more problems. Also, ads.

I would like a fix also. I'll call tech support.

What problems? And as far as ads, they only exist in the settings menu, which I rarely ever see or use after my initial setup and tweaking.

IMHO, Handcent blows the stock messaging out of the water.

I'm gonna have to agree here. I installed handcent a few days ago and the only adds you see are in the settings menu. I haven't had one issue with it so far. I was also getting extremely annoyed with the stock messaging app and the above described MMS issue. Handcent solves this problem and also provides a better SMS/MMS experience which is customized and personalized to the users likeing...

Bumping this thread up again. Is an app like Handcent the only solution to this?

Handcent is the best. I haven't had 1 problem with the app. It is extremely customizeable and IMO it destroys the stock messaging app in every way possible. If your not using it then you are doing yourself a disservice. I was also perplexed with the 5 second slideshow view of the MMS. It was ret@rded. I would try to show someone a pic message on my phone and as soon as I would hand them the phone the pic would dissapear. What's the point. Handcent displays the picture in the message thread. Also as already mentioned if you are worried about seeing ads they are only displayed in the options menu which you never see after the initial setup of the app.

Tap the picture, press the pause button.

Sometimes I get a slideshow, some times I don't. Would be nice to know exactly what causes a slideshow.

It seems to me that you get a slideshow if there is text along with the picture. If someone sends you just one picture it's won't be a slideshow but if someone sends you just one picture along with text you'll get the slideshow.

Has anyone found a fix to this yet? If I try to pause a slideshow of one slide I am just left with a black screen.

I had handcent and had problems with it sending texts to people i didn't select, not wanting to send mms or recieve mms.
I am trying chomp now and haven't had any problems... yet. Though the ads with chomp are more prevalent.

Ditto to the problem. I don't like the chat bubbles with handcent or chomp. Any other solutions?

You dont get duplicate messages? With Handcent I always got my message in both the native message client and handcent... it was too much of a pita so I surrendered and uninstalled handcent.

I mentioned previously that I use ChompSMS rather than Handcent because (on my EVO that is) I was having problems with Handcent a couple months ago. I cannot say whether Handcent has fixed the problems I was having or, specifically, the MMS slideshow issues.

That being said, I started another thread about the slideshow problems and there is suggestion that it is NOT necessarily because of a texting app like Handcent or ChompSMS but due to CERTAIN PHONES sending the messages that are received in that annoying slideshow format:

http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-evo-4g/150217-only-receiving-slideshow-mms-particular-person.html

For example, my parents have Samsung Rants and I ALWAYS ALWAYS get slideshows for EVEN FOR SINGLE PICTURES from them.

So, NOT SURE if ANY specific texting app will fix. For me, ChompSMS does NOT fix the slideshow issue and it appears that it is because of THE SENDING PHONE and NOT my phone or the app that I am using.

I posted this info to another thread:

Additionally, if there is no text in the message area, but it was sent from e-mail or a message app set to HTML or Rich Text format, the picture will be converted to a slideshow. Probably due to unseen code in the message area.

I dont think it is a sense issue as much old blackberry used to do the same thing....i think it is more of a dumbphone to smartphone communication issue, because when friends would send me pictures from their regular phones, I would get slideshows, but from other BB's or now other androids/smartphones I get the pic OK....

I know I'm responding to an old post, but the thread popped up again today so I read through it. To eliminate the duplicate notifications, I turned off notifications and message retrieval in the stock app.

I haven't been using Handcent for very long, just a couple weeks, but I like it. I think I'm going to stick with it.

Now that the stock messaging app has been updated, i use sms popup with the stock app. I do have handcent installed, but don't use it. Having it installed allows the use of music as ringtones and alerts in any of the messaging apps.

this is so stupid..... for a smart phone to be this behind, so it seems. we should have the choice on however we want to view it. we shouldnt havnt to get a new app for something so simple. i mean who wants to only view a MMS for a couple seconds. HELLOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

When the HTC Droid Eris first came out, way before the Incredible... there was no slideshow in the MMS. After an update months and months after it's release, now we all have to deal with the slideshow... GDI!

Come on. Over a year with all these people complaining about the same issue and no fix? Incredible! (maybe not) I'm ready to back to my blackberry. I don't believe the stock app won't allow you to send a simple pic or at least have it as an option in the menu. Incredible! - that's what I got but I'm gonna junk it.

don't think most people consider it a problem, if I want to look at the picture longer, I just save it or hit the pause button.

Seems like you have not tried it yourself... However fast you tap and hit the pause button, it never gets clicked... Are you saying that just one should open menu, hit save, open file manager, find the file you just saved and then open it to view it? I can't believe this is seriously being suggested as alternative to tapping on image to view it in full screen.
No offense meant.

Small things this make me regret choosing Android over Blackberry...

Angry Ahhhh

I'm working on a Tmobile G2 (HTC). SOOOOO frustrating. It's freaking ridiculous. Not only can I not see any pictures sent to me, any I send out have to be converted to a multimedia format and can't be seen by older phones. For my next trick I'm going to buy a Benz and the windshield wipers won't work...

Default Slide show

I found the reason for MMS slideshow and was able to recreate it multiple times.

Using iPhone 4 I created message with photo in this order:
1. Typed text
2. Inserted picture (regardless from photo gallery or take it while crating a message)
3. Press Send.

The message comes as slide show.

If I create message with photo in this order:
1. Inserted picture (regardless from photo gallery or take it while crating a message)
2. Typed text
3. Pressed Send.

The message comes as image with text below.

I don't know if this is intentional or not. I asked my wife to remember to attach image first, then type text. If she forgets, I will remind her.

Hope that helps.

Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Amanda'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK5640539248X
Amanda: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Question, I have a Samsung Infuse, when i receive a MMS picture it shows as a slide show
Visitor: Is there a way to fix this
Amanda: Please allow me to go through the inquiry.
Visitor: Thank you for your help
Amanda: I understand that you want to change the MMS settings in the phone. Am I correct?
Visitor: Yes
Amanda: Thank you for confirming.
Amanda: Let me check for the information on your request from our database.
Amanda: I have checked the information on your request, MMS settings are default on the phone from the carrier they can't be edited and modified. However are you getting the slide show option for only for single picture or all the pictures in your phone?
Visitor: Single or mulitple pictures
Amanda: Are you facing the issue with all the pictures in your phone?
Visitor: Yes
Visitor: Is there a way to disable the slideshow feature on the phone
Amanda: Let me check it for you.
Visitor: Thank you
Amanda: I will be right with you.
Visitor: ok
Amanda: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Amanda: Well, I have checked the complete information on your request.
Amanda: It is the default feature on your phone it can not be disabled from the phone.
Amanda: I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
Visitor: Can any of this be changed by the carrier
Amanda: I would have surely provided you the information if any settings were available on the phone.
Visitor: Ok thank you for your assitance with this and you have a wonderful night

...clearly this is an 'android' thing. A shame really, I don't want to have to install a third party application. Why do I? Honestly...

Hi,

My solution allows me work with the slideshow on my HTC Aria.

Start the mms slide show and Tap the image to pause it.
Click the save icon dsplayed at bottom right of screen.
Go to your Apps and Use the Gallery app.
