I haven't been around this forum for a little bit but who here is using TiKL (Touch to Talk)? I have found this app to be outstanding and a must have. It basically turns your phone into a walkie talkie or a Nextel if you will. The person on the other end has to have the app installed as well, but it's great.
I also love how it uses data instead of airtime. So if you don't want to text and don't want to use airtime, it's a must have. I also prefer it to texting in a lot of instances because you can quickly just ask someone something without typing and all of that jazz. And best of all, it's free.

I like to use this app to yell curse words at my girlfriend while she is with friends or at work. TURN YOUR PHONE OFF WHEN YOU'RE BEING SOCIAL OR WORKING AND YOU WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM! You'd figure after the 12th time or so that she'd just uninstall it...
I have this app as well, but I haven't used it even once. Just about everyone I know has a wackberry. I only know one person with an Adnroid phone. Unfortunately, the app only works with the Android OS. Hopefully, they'll make this app available for other phones.
Brothers and Sisters of androidforums, I hereby declare this post of thanks to necosino. Let it be known today that he has answered my question with great promptness and accuracy.
Yeah both phones need to have the app installed and I'm pretty sure they also have to be Android phones. I don't think TiKL is available for any other operating systems. I know for sure it's not available on BB's.

You are correct. I have a buddy at work who has an iPhone and the app is not available. Both phones need to have the app installed and both phones need to be android.

LOL
Just an FYI for those using TiKL - the newest version has a DND feature, and the other way around getting TiKLed when you don't want to is by turning down your media volume.
TiKL is a great app that is still in its infancy stage. It's a great tool for communicating with people who don't have reception at their homes, but do have WiFi.
how is this app with battery life. when I downloaded it, there was something about not letting the phone sleep. I love the app if its not going to rape my already short battery life
I can't speak directly to the battery life question but I can say that it does constantly run in the background. Once installed, if you check your list of running apps, it will be in there until you force close it
Use this app all the time to mess with my buddy at work. He doesn't know how to turn it off. I use task killer to shut mine off. He doesn't, and therefore gets messed with
I have been wanting to get this program but I currently only know one person who has a android, and I really don't talk to him much. Guess I will have to wait for now
Yeah it runs in the background but has anyone done any tests to see how much more it drains the battery, (if at all)? Some programs will constantly run but don't really have much effect on the battery, i.e., photoshop mobile.
This is a cool app, and it is available on the iPhone. I told an iPhone user about it the other day and he DLed and it worked just fine. Pretty cool...

My wife and I have been playing with this app since I first saw this thread. We love it. She has the Moto Droid and I have the Dinc.....it works great for us. In the short time I have had it, I've not noticed any difference in battery life.
One or my coworkers and I used it the other day for the first time. This would be perfect if everyone at work had this app. I was very impressed by this feature. Now, my wife has to get an android phone and get rid of her blackberry, so we can chat.
My question is: If I close TiKL, and someone tries to contact me via TiKL, will my TiKL open up and alert me?

As long as you don't force close it with a task killer, people can contact you. If you are someone who likes to use a task killer all day long, you can add TiKL to the exclude list, so it won't get closed.

I just make sure when I'm not using it I put it in do not disturb mode. That way no one can contact me through it anyway.

It has to be running as well as not in DND mode, technically.
FYI, you can also use this app to talk to a group of people at the same time. If you go into Contacts and check multiple people you can call talk to each other at the same time like a "conference call". VERY nice feature. I did this on accident the other day and talked to a friend of mine and my wife.

Well i convinced my co-worker to go android and he showed off his evo to me last week(phone is beautiful). I showed him the market and this was one of the apps i installed for him. (we're in shipping of aircraft parts so i thought it would be useful) Well he 'paged me' couple days ago drunk and the 'signal' was great, could here him loud and clear. I asked him if he was home being that he lives 25 miles or so from work, not that i was surprised that this app would work, merely curious. Turns out he was visiting his parents.... in Puerto Rico!!!!!! Thats 2000 or so miles away!!(cincinnati area) That blew my mind. I could hear him perfectly. Love the versatility of this app!
So I installed this app a while back and removed it. I am back now.
Wondering how this works exactly ...
If I have it on and running, but in the background, and someone Tikl's me - will it just start talking, or do I have to actually hit the button to start responding (Like the Nextel works?)?

people can start talking to you with out you going to it, or even turning screen on, but when you do tikl will already be opened and you will have to hit the button to respond
dimmit! I want someone to TiKL me. This app is not very fun with one player. I don't know anyone else with a android. Iphones and winmo's.
Maybe I'll go downtown tomorrow and look for androids an see if anyone wants to TiKL.
From the TiKL dev on facebook TiKL - Touch To Talk Yes, it is headed to both the iphone and the blackeberry. ETA can be best stated as soon. Exact date is hard to predict since it will soon to go to Apple for approval. After that, we need to make changes that apple decides we need to make. Once that is done, it will go through the rest of their pipeline before it shows up in the app store. Stay tuned...we are doing our best to get it out as early as possible.
