k0nane presents... Basix for R910 Version 1.0 Updated 7/24/2011
Screenshots, downloads, and changelog in second post! Installation instructions and FAQ in third post!
It's been a long time coming, to say the least. Perhaps I owe you all an apology - this took far too long to see the light of day. Finally, though, it is here. Basix for R910 is a comprehensive, highly-customized ROM, based on the official EE07 release. Sharing a common heritage with SyndicateROM Frozen for the Epic 4G, Basix aims to wring every last drop of potential from what Samsung has given us, and correct most - if not all - of the annoyances in the process. And look good doing it!
Basix was built from the ground up for speed, stability, smoothness and battery life, using some of the most advanced techniques available to ROM developers today. You'll see a marked improvement in every one of those areas... or your money back. (Oh wait. This is free. )
What's in Basix?
This is a very long list - see the second post for a complete changelog from the base, stock ROM. Here are some of the highlights:
deodexed
PNG optimized
zipaligned
hand-optimized APKs
smoothness tweaks
GPS tweaks
updated Maps
updated Market
updated Gmail
updated just about everything
ad blocking hosts file
enabled USB Debugging by default
enabled ADB on boot
removed throttle service
removed "battery full" popup, sound, screen on (no more interrupted sleep)
removed startup sound
removed SMS, MMS from call log
switched music player icon (goodbye fugly teal/lavender)
removed MetroPCS-ordered package install blocking
removed "low battery" killer in Music Player
removed "low battery" killer in Video Player
removed "low battery" killer in Camera
added highly-optimized Gallery
multiple lockscreens available: stock, AOSP, Epic, 4tab, more! (see FAQ)
The list goes on! Of course, every bit of MetroPCS's useless bloatware is gone. The junk has been cleaned, the invasive tracking removed, and insidious limitations removed. Basix makes your device truly yours.
Basix comes with the light and customizable LauncherPro by default - but don't fret, TouchWiz lovers, an addon is available to restore your favorite launcher. Many of the apps that were previously uninstallable have been moved to the data partition, allowing them to be uninstalled at will. A kernel with a customized initramfs is also included, to provide for some of the features in the ROM - a fully-custom kernel will be included with later releases.

Installation is simple. This package requires a rooted device and ClockworkMod Recovery. To install, do the following:
1. Root your device and install CWM with the newly-released All In One Root/CWM by DRockstar. If you are already rooted or have an older version of CWM, run this anyway.
2. Copy the package to your SD card.
3. Back up your apps and data with MyBackup Root (available free on the Market). Titanium or similar can be used, but are not recommended. MBR produces consistent results.
4. Boot into recovery by shutting down your device, holding Power and the R key until the Samsung logo appears, then releasing Power.
5. (optional, but recommended) Take a Nandroid (complete backup of your current ROM and data) by selecting Backup and Restore > Backup.
6. (if you performed step 5) Wait. Get a cup of coffee.
7. Install the ROM by selecting Install Zip From SD Card and choosing the package.
8. Wait a little more. When "install complete" is displayed, press back, and select Reboot.
9. Enjoy Basix!
The backup in step 3 is not merely for posterity - THIS PACKAGE WILL WIPE YOUR DATA. You have been warned!
Frequently Asked Questions
What took so #@$&% long, ***h0le? Sorry! Come find me on IRC if you want a full explanation.
I get Force Close messages/something's really broken! You restored bad data, did not follow instructions, or ended up on the business end of a bad flash. Wipe data (Factory Reset in CWM) and flash the package again.
How do I change my lockscreen? Settings > Lockscreen Settings > Lockscreen Settings.
Which locks don't work right? The Epic lock looks odd but works fine in landscape, and Puzzle does not work at all.
Music controls? Fully available on Glass and Epic.
What's that "TSM" tab on the 4tab, and why does my phone vibrate and FC when I pull it? That's the "custom app" tab - you must set the app you wish to launch with it in Lockscreen Settings.
Will I lose CWM/root/etc. when I flash this? No. This ROM includes root (in the kernel), busybox (in the kernel), and the latest version of CWM. Do not re-root, or you will break things.
Can I install Wired Tether/Market version Wireless Tether/etc.? Yes! You can install any app you like, and Metro can't do a thing about it.
Where's My Files? My Files is a poor imitation of a file manager. Grab ES File Explorer on the Market - it even does root!
Credits
I would like to thank everyone below for their hard work, and for their valuable contributions, some of which are included in this ROM. If you believe your name belongs below - if I have used any piece of your work, or you have helped me, and I have forgotten - please contact me ASAP. I do my very best to give credit where credit is due, but I am only human!
You, the users - for your patience and continued support!
Special thanks go out to rjsweezy, without whom, there may be no development on the Indulge! rjsweezy purchased an Indulge (R910) and very generously donated use of it indefinitely to myself and my fellow developers. I am currently working with him to purchase the Indulge permanently - his generosity and patience have been invaluable.
Donations
This and my other productions are not, and will never be donationware. However, I and my fellow devs have put countless hours into perfecting this ROM - and will continue to! Your generosity - if you feel like showing it - is deeply appreciated! If you donate, please PM me, so proper credit can be given.

This package wipes cache and data. You may wipe if you feel like it.

During install my phone froze and now does nothing but show Samsung logo, I've tried turning it off and on and still only shows the logo??
This happened to me and I used Odin to get back to speed. One thing I did NOT do prior was install the 1.0 CWM..I was using the beta .093..now I don't know if that was the difference but I did (with the suggestion of k0nane) re-download the Basix Rom..and it was smooth sailing like everyone else who has installed it..Great work..Thanks!!
I keep getting a "status 6" error in cwm when trying to install the add-on "Fully loaded"...ive tried re-downloading the file and replacing it but i still get the same error.

EDIT: Fixed package being uploaded.
EDIT2: Minor script error fixed. Redownload the addon, it will work.
Okay got everything back up and running and installed. Thank you so much I was having a heart attack here haha. Is there a was to change the setting for this, like if I want the apps screen to go left to right like it was before?

LauncherPro doesn't support that. If you really must have that, grab ADW from the Market before you run back to TouchWiz. Either way, play with the launcher's preferences. There's al ot to love.

Just wanted to congratulate you on your release k0! I've always been a fan of your work, and I'm sure everyone here will appreciate it. A lot of people were impatience about the release of your ROM, but little did they know how flawless it will be. That's what K0 puts out, quality and precision.
first off i'd like to give a big thanks for all the effort you put into releasing this for us but now question lol. . i installed the clock work no problem did all the backups and started loading rom from recovery but it's been stuck on mounting file system for about 5 mins now. . is that normal?

A couple of people have run into that already. Follow the Odin guide in this forum, and start the process over. It's not in the ROM - likely some oddity in prior modifications.
damn this is the s#@t this is why i love all this s**t all this work you guys do is the s%%t i love custom roms this is why i fell in love wit dis S**t

i am running linux. . the odin files will still work on my system?
If I am rooted do I still have to use "[ROOT][CWM][R910/R915] Indulge All in One Root and ClockworkMod for Win/Intel Mac/Linux"? If I do have to root again will it just overwrite my existing root?
I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. This custom ROM saved me from almost losing hope on the Indulge. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication you had throughout this long process, I even remember you saying you will personally have a ROM up and running for the Indulge to someone. You should be awarded a medal, donations are well deserved to you and the people who helped you create this fantastic ROM.
- I don't know if it's included in the list, because I don't know what the problem really is called, but is the problem in which the notification bar gets stuck been resolved? Thank you.
Absolutely a excellent rom and I thank you very much K0nane for all the dedication & hard work. Just wondering I tried to put a PowerOn.wav in the system/exc folder, but it didn't work. What do I have to do to get the boot up sound working? Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks to you and all that put in work for the Indulge community.
just switched from exodus to basix... I did quadrant benchmark test on exodus and got 1108. Did it on basix got 1085. Stock got 1052. The basix just seems so much more smooth... Not sure why tho... Thanks for the rom really appreciated.
So far I am liking this very much, I figured out how to set a custom boot animation, now I cant seem to figure out a boot up sound. I tried putting the PowerOn.wav file in the system\etc folder but no luck, any ideas
I also have noticed that for me it seems to black screen frequently, when going from an app to the home page I get stuck on a black screen and have to reboot. Has happened about 5 times on me so far.

Amazing!
I've popped in and out of forums since the indulge was released; following progress on everything from the original bloatware removal to partial root, and finally full root. The only final thing missing was a full CWM. I've been reading up on Exodus but have been reluctant to try it.
This morning I discovered your Basix which I had no idea was even in the workings. I couldn't procrastinate any longer. I took the risk and installed it. So far everythings running so much faster than ever and battery life has to be 2X what it was.
I had to register for an account in this forum to simply say THANK YOU for giving my slow android a whole new life. You have done an amazing job!
Now on to a couple small bugs which you may be unaware of:
1.)When trying to select "sound" ringtones for individual contacts, android.process.acore stops and FC's.
2.)When trying to select a default call tone within sound settings, all that appears is "Silent" with no option to select your own. (EDIT: Figured out this one. Have to place files within specific directory on SDcard)
Please don't take any of that as criticism. I wish I had 1/10th of the knowledge base that it took to put this together. Just hoping that these small details help with future releases. I'll be following your work closely from now on. Thanks again.
