Default Package file is invalid

I have spent countless hours looking for a fix to this probem and have found nothing that works has anyone fixed this problem?

Things I have alrdy done:
I have cleaned out most of my apps
Cleared all my app caches
Cleared my dalvik cache
Tried relinking my librarys with link2sd (missing file so it failed)
Manually cleaned my cache and dalvik cache with root explorer
Cleared market data/cache

Would love to help, but I'm not sure how to...
I'd need more info:
What program are you trying to install? Potatoes, Corn kernels, Finger exercising app?
Where are you getting it from? Market, torrent/pirated apk(!) <--can't help with that, genuine apk from developper through email/forums, MEGAupload alternative...
In what way are you trying to install it? Market, sideload through adb, apk installer from within SD card on phone?...

Anything really I can't update any app from the market or install new ones no matter how big or small. I have blackmart alpha and I can download and install anything from there but I don't get updates for my less popular apps and some updates from blackmart are not even there in the google market so I'm not sure if I should even download them.

It all depends on what exactly you're trying to install.
Try it with a program you've never had on your phone and see if it's still giving you problems.
there are a few scenarios to account for:
  • The package you're installing already has another version previously installed manually on your phone
  • The market went crazy in is trying to update apps it shouldn't (version control problems)... Yeah, it happened before... Not recently, but it's happened.
  • Your market install has issues in it's configuration files and therefore cannot properly install or update apps.
  • The package installer on your phone is corrupted
Your best option: Use Titanium backup or MyBackupRoot or some other such app to make a backup copy of your apps, and reset your device to factory settings.
Then, reinstall your apps, but without data. (app only)
Other possibilities, try and force a market update, or maybe the packages you're installing are for 2.3+ only and not compatible with FroYo...
That's of course assuming you are using a ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Indulge R910 or R915.
Because, as far as I know JerryScripting and link2sd are not really discussed in these parts...
You are using an indulge, right?

And if yes, what ROM are you using anyways.

That is the same problem I have with mine ever since flashing the new radios. I fixed it with Odin by re-partitioning it and flashing an older stock ROM. The only problem is that after doing that the LTE radio doesn't work. You should just use Odin to put a stock firmware on it and do a warranty exchange at Metro.

EDIT: Use the acs-indulge.pit to re-partition and the Indulge-Stock.tar goes in the PDA box in Odin. You might have to flash Indulge-Stock.tar twice to get the phone to boot after re-partitioning. Power cycle the phone between flashes or Odin will not work.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17599743/acs-indulge.pit

EDIT: Had the wrong firmware posted for flashing after doing the re-partition.

The new modems cannot be the problem. I guarantee it.
I'm not sure what is causing the issue, since I cannot replicate it. I wish I could
Try re-flashing the stock 2.2.2 tar, and adding the apps one-by-one without data as mentioned in my previous post and let me know if that fixes it. (Actually, if my theory is correct, it should work as soon as you reflash the stock 2.2.2 tar)

It has to be, I've verified it on my handset. I think it is an issue between different versions of the hardware.

On my phone I cannot install any apps from the Market with the 2.2.2 firmware installed. Only installing from the .apk works if at all. And I have the same issue with the firmware that came stock once I flash the new radios.

And that's with bonne stock, 100% clean and fresh 2.2.2?
Because every time I try to replicate the issue, I can't...
2.2.2 or Basix.

2.2.2 or Basix.
Yep, and that's from flashing to stock, non-rooted 2.2.2 from a stock, non-rooted 2.2.1.

From the first few results on Google about this, it seems to be network relayed and not device specific, although a statistically higher number of Samsung smartphones (as far as I can tell) have been experiencing that issue.
They're are a few suggested fixes for it, all tentative and not 100% successful, as this doors bout seem device specific.
You can of course try them all out, awe what works and what does not in your particular situation... Unfortunately though, since I cannot replicate this problem, I can't even logcat it and see why you're getting some SHTF.
One such example can be seen here: Android Market Package File Is Invalid

I'm confused, however, on how you were able to isolate this issue to 2.2.2/Basix with EG06+EF23?
As far as I'm aware, a modem downgrade package file has not been circulating around to get your modems to something under EG06. Could you pass me the file so I can examine it, maybe there's a clue in there?

I never said I was running Basix. Ran into this problem when I flashed the new radio to restore the LTE modem. I reverted to the old modem by re-partitioning the phone in Odin and flashing the ROM I posted. And I have this problem over wifi since the phone has no service with Metro (upgraded to the Esteem 4 months ago).

Package file is invalid

EDIT: I just noticed that the CDMA modem does not downgrade when I do that but the LTE modem does indeed change to "Unknown". But that firmware is the only stock firmware that is working with the Market on this phone.

Market installs apps.

Same firmware but after flashing just the modem, Market does not install apps or update to latest version. And the phone runs really slow.

ahhhhh ha!
So the problem must be a network issue.
Maybe, just maybe, metro's high speed data network is experiencing anomalies in your area in the compression and decompression phases. T-mobile had that problem last year a well, and it was centered apparently in one area. To be sure, is everyone .experiencing this annoying package file is invalid message in the same coverage area?

Try using 3g to download as circumvention.
And wifi should always work, in theory.

You missed the part where I said I have no service on that phone and was using wifi. I bought an Esteem to replace that phone with back in October.

When I flash 2.2.1 with no working LTE everything installs/updates fine.

Well then, so much for my theory.
However, if you have no service, I fall to see how the radios are at fault...
This requires further brainstorming.
I'll think of something...

The ROM works fine until I flash it so that the LTE radio is recognized. Through the power of deduction I have concluded that the updated LTE radio has to be the problem. It is either an issue with different versions of the hardware or mine is just defective. Gonna flash it so that the LTE radio is "Unknown" again and get Samsung to replace it with a new or refurbished unit.

It's just possible that the radio yields access to the otherwise blocked LTE functionality and exposes and underlying problem already present.
I'm not sure of the schematics for internet access for the indulge, so I can't tell you what it's up to, but do you see where I come from at least?
(if) the radios are the problem,I just want to isolate the source. And so far, every way I think about it,I get nothing.
The part where wifi would be affected by changes in telephony radios is very very odd to me...
Samsung may have taken some shortcuts ?

I'll say they did. They pretty much threw this phone together in a weekend.

I think verizon is trying to break my contract ... I have unlimited data and I think they are trying to push me over 5Gig to try to claim im using a computer with my phone....
Every thing I use for my computer is D/L to the phone then transferred ....
My invalid package/"not enough storage space"(on a 16G card that has 9Gig available) started 2. Months ago ... after over a year of flawless use....
