Default Can we root with the official GB installed?

Anyone know if there's a way to succesfully root with the new GB official update installed?

If not, anyone know a way to roll back to froyo?

Default Same Issue

I have the same issue. I am running the official Gingerbread 2.3.6 build, and cannot root using SuperOneClick.

EDIT: I'd also like to know how to roll back to froyo, but if there is a way to do it using Gingerbread, that is the most optimal solution for me.

People kind of suck on this forum for help....

My advice would be to get on AndroidCentral and ask about Odin (GTGunbrick) I'm assuming that's how you got it on your phone downgrading the phone to get the udate...it's what I had to do....

Anyways if you did...re-run it and it'll revert it back to stock Froyo and everything...make you sure you back it up...I forgot..

if you didn't "Unbrick" it....try this link...

Download GTG’s Ultimate Unbrick For Samsung Infuse 4G SGH-i997 & Return Samsung Back To Stock; Unrooting Samsung Infuse 4G | Popular Social Trends with TraeMcNeely.com

I've used Odin and it's very easy to use....any real questions you have get on the XDA forums also...those are where the real Android Badasses are...

Good luck.

Notsure Odin

I've tried one of these methods before. Problem is, even after I installed the Kies Mini specifically for the Infuse, and installed the drivers, the computer (running windows XP :P) doesn't recognize it when I plug in during download mode, which means Odin doesn't recognize it either. HALP!

No that's my point....When the official GB was released...the majority of us couldn't get KIES to even recognize the phone...kept saying "Unregistered device" So we were told that back in November when there was an over the air update it changed our version of Froyo....so in order to get GB...you had to run ODIN(GTG Unbrick) and it would literally put everything...and I mean EVERYTHING back to original form...all updates...all kernals...all whatever...back to stock...then...after we did that...KIES recognized our phones and we were able to get the GB update....And you use ODIN whenever you brick your phone...

Basically with GTG Unbrick...you're phone is Unbrickable...read the the link I gave you very carefully...you won't be disappointed.

alright....I'll try it. I'm going to back up my contacts...but is there anything else I should be aware of before using GTG Unbrick? Sorry for asking so many questions :P

Will this remove root and keep the bloatware from AT&T?

I hope this is not spamming... but go to xda. All answers are there.... Inlucding how to root. People, its easier to just root on froyo and learn how to flash custom roms. Att made us a half-butt version anyway, screw them.

Cool How to Root the Gingerbread Infuse

I found out the hard way that you cannot root the "official" gingerbread OS via superoneclick. The method I used was to root it through the Rogers Infuse method found here:

[How To] Root the Rogers Infuse 4G - NOT for AT&T Infuse owners

The reason it says it is not for AT&T owners is because this was before AT&T gave us the official GB OS. Now that we have it, this is the method to use (for now). I followed this method and had no problem at all, and am running Zeus 5.2 Just make sure you follow the instructions. Since I was not rooted yet, I backed-up everything to my computer first. I created two folders on my computer as back-ups: one for my internal SD card, and one for the external SD card.

Many thanxs to gtg465X on XDA for this!!!

If you want to make a back-up of your SMS texts, you can download SMS back-up & restore from the market.

I remember reading that XDA thread last year, but it never would have occured to me to try it with the AT&T GB. Well done!

That link went bad since it was posted last year. Look later on in the thread, and someone posts the new location.

Yes!!! Just did it myself. So relieved.
I was in the same spot: upgraded from froyo to the official GB 2.3.6 using kies mini. But I then could NOT root using superoneclick NOR could I install any of the rooted custom ROMs because I was no longer rooted. I was stuck in stock and hating it.
Then I found this on xda: 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root added
just visit xda developers site and search for thread # 1613523 (i'm not yet allowed to post links on this board)
I installed it using odin and it worked right away. no boot loop nightmares or anything. I think the important thing I did right was following the instruction to wipe cache and user data first. I think that prevented hangups I've had before.
