Default lousy signal

hello
i am happy to report that the ace hack kit worked! i do have a question though. after rooting, i downloaded a rom from the rom manager, my first one, cleardroid.
installed this, looks great! i decided, i wonder what my DL speeds might be. ran the speedtest app, and the results were nasty lousy.
been reading about radios, thought i might try to get a new one. used the ace hack kit to get the gingerbread radio. still have bad DL speeds.
is there something else i need to do to get a better data transfer rate?
i mean 4G should be pushing 20 mB/sec right?
thanks for you help!

No no God no. AT&T download speeds would never be that high. Other carriers, maybe, but AT&T, no way. Can you tell us what the download speeds were?

It's not "real 4G", it's HSPA+. With full signal, I get 2 - 4MB down and about 1.5 up. A friend of mine with the ThunderBolt on Verizon gets 32MB down and 24MB up.

However, with AT&T moving to LTE, we can expect the same speeds as Verizon. It may take a couple of years, but we'll get it eventually. It really depends on the city you're in and how loaded the towers are. I'm lucky enough to live in a city where once LTE is setup, I'm sure the speeds will be blazing.
