Default I want to root my Inspire, where to start?

I got an Inspire, and I REALLY want to root it (mostly so I can use the bluetooth wii/ps3 controller app, and so I can overclock it). Where do I begin? Like do I need to be on a certain update or anything?

There's a bit of info in this thread: **Simple Root from xda** (9-23-11)

It also links to a tool which will root the phone, S-OFF and install clockwork mod for you. Read the manual that comes with it though, it's a relatively simple process, but there are some pretty strict requirements needed for it work properly.

Post if you have any questions.

Ok, I already got a question haha. Well, what exactly does "Inspire or DHD devices shipped with Gingerbread."
Inspire or DHD devices shipped with Gingerbread.
mean? How would I determine if mine has "Gingerbread"?
And I'm really nervous of messing it up, if something bad were to happen, would I be able to restore my phone?

I agree. And like its says...READ THE EFFEN MANUAL! There really is a test. If you didnt read, you wont know to do when it asks for something. I could tell you but then you may not read.
As long as you read, it is a piece of cake. Takes less than 10 minutes and youre done as far as rooting is concerned. It will put stock gingerbread rom in and you can tweak and hack from there. Installing a custom rom is another process, but that isnt too bad either.
I went with GB_Sense_3.0 from xda and love it. I used Titanium back up and got rid of Asphalt 5, Blockbuster, Twitter, ATT Navigator and some other crapware that I will never use. I like the Sense 3.0 UI but am looking into 3.5, still not sure wether its for me yet. Definitely want Ice Cream Sandwich when it has been tested and stable.

Oh and by the way, setting up your pc is critical. If you have an old machine in a closet somewhere....use it, thats what I did. You have to turn off/uninstall all the antivirus, shut down any unnecessary processes, etc etc. I just used my old machine so I wouldnt have to screw with my new one, its kind of a pain.
