Gmail app not working after CM7

This is the first time I have flashed a ROM (installed CyanogenMod 7.1.0 on my HTC Inspire yesterday) and am pretty happy with it. A small glitch, though. My gmail account doesn't seem to be working. I have turned on sync data and when an email arrives, I have to go to the inbox and refresh it before it appears in my inbox. Also, I don't get the notification for a new email. Anything I am missing? What's the solution to this? Thanks much.
