in a nutshell it means "security off". it gives access to all the phones partitions, lets you change your CID(carrier identiifcation),install any factory firmware, chance splash screens or recoveries, and is in short, better.

it will not affect your massive music collection, nor the ability to stream music and/or video.

i would suggest backing up up your sd card(just becasue its a good idea ) and then use a small spare sd for the root procedure,as not knowing on what youre planning to do to root, some processes may wipe your sd in order to make the "gold card" needed to install older, exploitable unbranded firmware.

I hate to ask the newbie question, but what ROM do you recommend for just a quick , non buggy and stable with some nice features...
Revolution with the Sense seems like a good first one..

I do not want to spend massive amounts of hours re-Rooting , as i don't have the time i used to for my geek-ware that i used to love .....have wife, kids, college and the American Dream draining my bank etc...thanks!!jay
