Default Rooting for PC idiots!!

....im not an android noob but what i need help with is PC lol..... they hate me (though i managed to fix our old laptop when the new one got reposessed) *proud*

Say tomorrow or wednesday, i fire up the laptop.... would someone help me with odin and CF please? (Even just unzipping and installling.... this is how inexperienced i am!)

All i want is root and superuser rights just now to uninstall samsungs crap software and backup app info.... then ill start deciding what rom i want.

Is there a cool person like that here?.. imagine ur in an airport control tower with donuts n coffee tryin to talk a drunk guy through landing a plane coz the pilot hates me.... thats what itl be like.

Ill check this thread hopefully untill i die

There is a good guide on frooting here
S3 Root Guide, guide for returning to stock + video [UPDATE: new, easier, single flash method]

It doesn't go into detail about unzipping files but I'd use either 7zip for this or the free version of winrar. To unzip files place them on your pc and right click, choose 7zip/winrar and then extract here.

If you get stuck just ask and I'll be happy to help

Just dont unzip any .tar files

Unzipping is easy. You just double click the zip file and your zip application opens it in a window. You can just drag whats inside to your desktop,

or simply right click the file and "uncompress" using native windows functionality.

Yeah I usually extract them to the desktop, but it won't really matter where you put them.

That's a bit weird, never seen that before.

Try downloading Odin from this guide

If you only saved Odin to the desktop just right click it and delete. And yeah keep the cfroot kernel. Did you download the 6.4 cfroot, the guide say to use 6.0 as it was written before the more recent cfroot kernels. So it's best to use 6.4

Anyway try double clicking on Odin 3

It's no trouble mate. Double click on Odin3 v3.0.4.exe and it should ask you if you want to allow the program to make changes to your pc or something like that, click yes and Odin will load up.

Try extracting it. So backout until you get to the original Odin download, drag it onto your desktop, right click, 7zip, extract here.
Then double click your way through the new icon which should have appeared on your desktop

I just meant press back until you get to the original Odin download. That tmax.dll is contained inside the download so I'd think extracting the whole Odin folder should sort the problem.

Yeah hopefully we'll be good.

double click Odin 3v3.04, then double click Odin 3v3.04 again on the next screen. It should then ask for permission to make changes, so press yes.

Tick the box next to pda and then press pda and find the cfroot .tar and add. DO NOT tick or untick any other boxes.
Go to developer options on your phone and turn on usb debugging, then turn off your phone.
Hold power, volume down and home until your phone boots and then press volume up to enter download mode.
Attach to your pc with usb cable and press start on Odin.
You should hopefully be rooted a couple of minutes later.

Try this custom kernel. It's already in .tar format so no need to extract anything. It's flashed exactly the same way as cfroot

Just put it on your desktop so it's easy to find when you enter it into Odin. I wouldn't worry about that comment. I suggested to use a kernel and had to edit my post because I didn't post the link.

I'm on the latest wanamlite Rom at the moment
