Default Rooted!!!! :) :)

hey guys, i finally got it rooted, i used the file chainfire odin method that can be found on google, however my baseband version was different to that listed.

I went ahead and tried anyway and it was successfull but the supersu app didnt show and the status was uncheckable.

I did notice though that the supersu app was listed on my app list.

I completed the root by going to the market and installing the supersu app from there.

Now my root is recognised and fully working.

Nice job! Which carrier are you with so that this can be in the appropriate root forum?

Signature says I-9505, so it looks to be international LTE.

Good ol' Chainfire.... he helped me root my S2.

The S4 CF-Auto-Root topic on XDA can be found here, btw. I'm sure it will make its way into the Root Guide soon.

Please note the repeated warnings that it's only applicable to the i9505 (Qualcomm LTE) variant to avoid unwanted brickings (both of the handset and yourself!)

Another Root exploit has been announced, this time by the guy who unlocked the Motorola Bootloaders. It seems his tool is good rooting almost any device that runs Snapdragon chipsets.

I'll be getting it this week and looks like CF-Root is still the way to go (I'm with Slug, CF helped me root my S2 ).

Looks like Omega Rom is already out. It's v1.0 atm and will probably be v5.64 by the weekend (exaggerating a tad). I don't know if people still do rom reviews, but I'm eager to try as many different ones as possible!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you kie, my s4 SHOULD arrive this week...but then I was expecting it already, it was also a cf kernel I used for S2 root.... I may just hold off for s week or so just to see some more feedback/maybe a walk through guide for dummies like ironass created.... Of course I may just copy his guide and make the appropriate changes :-P

With his permission naturally!

So I managed to root successfully with chainfire's CF-Root. Remember this is for i9505 only for versions PRIOR to MDM (to find your current version, go to Settings -> More -> About device and scroll to Build number. The last 3 letters of mine are MDE, but later models have MDM or higher. For information about what to do with MDM or later, see here (thanks sntaylor!)

1. Download CF-Root from here
2. Download and install either Kies or Samsung drivers for the S4 (v1.5.23.0, found here)
3. Put phone in Recovery by turning off then holding Volume Down + Home + Power, and then pressing volume up when prompted.
4. Download Odin v3.04 from here. Open up Odin (make sure Kies is closed if you have it). Your phone should be recognised and show up as a blue-green colour in the first box on the left.
5. Extract the contents of the CF-Root zip and add the md5 file to the PDA section of Odin. Ensure Re-Partition is not checked.
6. Click Start and wait. Your phone should reboot and show a red android and some text and reboot again. It's now rooted!

The main problem I had was getting my PC to see the phone in Recovery mode. I didn't realise you needed the most recent Samsung drivers or Kies (despite the similarities to my username, I don't like Kies ). The current driver that recognises the S4 is v1.5.23.0. Older ones obviously don't work. You should uninstall older drivers before installing the new one.

Everything works as normal in root: Titanium restored all my apps just fine; Voltage Control adapts to the new phone and you can adjust voltage settings as you like; and Super User is installed automatically.

Regarding CWM, I don't think a working one is out for i9505 yet (keyword is working). There's no TWRP out for it either.

I'm currently on Omega v1.0 rom. It's pretty stable, but nothing special yet.

I had thinking of copying(literally copy and paste, then delete) iron ass dummies guide from s2 (with his permission first off course!)

think I'll wait for now until the procedure is more set up and we have recovery etc completely working with just one flash!

Rooting gives access to admin files, in time there will be some kind developer that will create a custom kernel, this could allow us to change aspects of how the interface works, control what the processor speed is for certain tasks, giving better control over battery usage!

to mention custom Roms changing the look of things such as icons on the top bar and other customisations(my s2 has a blue Android man for battery icon!)

with little in way of choice for Roms, kernels etc, I have root to allow me to back up apps easily and although I maybe shouldn't have, I backed up s2 apps to sd card, and restored them on s4 so I've saved my gameplay in games like angry birds.

IAlso make use of adaway which as the name suggests, removes advertisements in the free games and other such apps.

Lol Sid, I haven't plucked up the courage to ask yet, that and the whole little thing where some variants apparently cannot be rooted at the moment etc, so in general I'd rather not make it easier for people to have then brick their phone! Lol

A full and comprehensive, "Dummies Guide", for rooting the Samsung Galaxy S4 is already on the cards, with a slightly more user friendly layout. The last one, for the S2, took a week to write and re-write, check and re-check, and then evolved over a period of 18 months or so.

The S4 was only released a couple of weeks ago and I am still awaiting mine and also letting the dust settle first to see what common problems and questions should be included in it not to mention that it is still very early days and that various methods of rooting will emerge along with ancillary software.

Woo, I really didn't wanna be held responsible ;-)

I've rooted already, just a little scared to flash any Roms(being there is only really one, and I'm sure it advises flashing correct stock first, so think I'll leave it a lil while)

On another note....glad to see your coming this direction ironass, I'm sure I'll require your help once I do start flashing away :-P

I'm going to wait for something more substantial. I'd want to overclock especially seen as Sammy took a dump on us with the quad core chips. That may not be a bad thing as scores still suggest a substantial rise over previous models but its still very disapointing. Real Racing 3 still doesnt feel smooth during play. Maybe it wont ever but I cant help eel somewhat overwhelmed. Especially as I wanted to see a Chainfire 3d enhanced version of the game. Early days I know. I shall see.
