DjeMBeY has just released the full, unmodified, odexed and pre-rooted version of the latest Jelly Bean release, Android 4.2.2, for the i9505... MG3

Source and Download

I'm sure it will not be too long before we see a modified, deodexed, pre-rooted, lite version of MG3.

DjeMBeY,s MG3 pre-rooted firmware is up!

All three versions, see post #1, of the latest Jelly Bean, Android 4.2.2, firmware, MG3 is now available.

I chose the stock modified version and flashed it over my current MF8 DjeMBey ROM using Odin... in my case I used Mobile Odin. After flashing I had to re-flash the PhilZ recovery and all was well.

The MG3 firmware is taken from the Brazilian release and comes with some extra apps. The Help Guide, in Brazilian, is something that the dev forgot to remove I guess. Unreceived Calls is basically a separate call/message log prog. Energy Saver is intriguing as it is designed to save battery when the phone is not in use/idle by limiting the data connection to a quick burst every 30 min's. I will be giving this a go as it should save a lot of juice... not that the stock modified ROM's from DjeMBeY really need it IMHO.

I do not know whether it is a placebo effect but I feel that the scrolling and screen menus are a lot quicker on this version and that the screen seems more vibrant.

If there is a downside it, "might", be the modem/radio which I feel is not quite as good as the European MF8 that I was using previously. I am not talking about a big difference and in fairness, I need more time to test it. In any case, this is not a big problem as I can easily flash the MF8 modem via Odin.

EDIT: I flashed the MF8 modem and there is no difference between it and the MFG, for me.

Certainly, in the time I have been using it, I see no reason why this should not be a, "keeper", for me.

Yup and running here to. Smooth and stable so far. . ..

Seems the developer is getting pissed of with xda as they won't recognise him as a developer!! Says he's thinking of giving up!! Hopefully he's just letting of stream, but now might be a good time to offer him some encouragement and support, so dig deep and get some donations in

I know there have been some issues with people when trying to flash things, but that was more in earlier builds. Think your best bet is to either reflash Philz or just keep on attempting to flash any updates as they are!

It was a nice little app that came with the MG3 firmware and I gave it a go. The Energy Saver app is really a toggle that turns on, or off, a feature that, when the phone is in idle, screen off, mode will turn data off and then every 30 min's it turns it on again for a short burst.

Since I am rooted and running DjeMBeY's de-bloated, modified, stock firmware and with my settings already tuned to avoid unnecessary connections, then it did not make a great deal of difference to my battery consumption.

Having said that, if I had been on an un-rooted phone that was running stock firmware, I would have saved myself quite a bit of battery I feel. Therefore, before switching to MGA, I extracted the Energy Saver .apk from the MG3 firmware and have installed it on the phone in case I ever need to squeeze even more battery saving at some stage.

As mentioned, I am now on the latest Jelly Bean, Android 4.2.2, firmware for the i9505... MGA.

I downloaded and installed DjeMBeY's stock, modified, ROM for MGA, using Odin and just flashed it over MG3 with no wipe. I then re-installed the PhilZ recovery via Odin and was up and running. I prefer the stock modified ROM to the CWM version as I never have to flash a Wi-Fi fix.

One thing that I did notice is that my phone would boot up completely and then enter the boot cycle again. After this happened a couple of times, I un-installed and cleared the data on the ReKey app, mentioned here, and rebooted and re-installed the ReKey app again which solved the problem.

Outwardly, there appears to be very little noticeable difference between MG3 and MGA firmwares except for the lack of the Brazilian Help guide, Call Log app and the Energy Saver app that are mentioned in my previous post.

The MGA modem is on a par with all the previous firmware modems that I have used so far on the S4.

Will give MGA a good going through over the weekend.

A good testing in the twilight zone eh?? someone has to do it.

The little router app/switch on MG3 has also gone on MGA - I think Djembey just missed a few bits of bloatware when he modified MG3. A much more thorough job done on MGA!!!

I flashed the Lite version, and now I cannot root the device at all
I thought this ROM was ready-rooted?
I've tried re-rooting as per the dummies guide, but no root access.
Any ideas fellas?....

Going to try a different download. I'll be back!

When you say, "Lite", version... is it the Modified Stock Packages: as shown in #1.2 of post #1 of this thread and is downloaded from post #1 in DjeMBey's thread ...

or

is it the Modified Stock ROM - CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP: as shown in #1.3 of post #1 of this thread and is downloaded from post #2 in DjeMBeY's thread.

It is prerooted but only if you download the correct one....if I remember correctly, there are 3 options, and it's the stock modified pre rooted version your after, just flash via Odin, followed by a recovery :-)

as per #1.2 butty.
I think I must have clicked the wrong link in the thread, and downloaded the stock rom by mistake.

Interesting that the cf-root in your thread will not root stock MGA. Probably too old a kernel.

Strange, it should do. I'll give it a go when I have 5 min's.

(This will probably be my only chance of using this on Hawker and I'm not going to pass up on it. However, my chances of getting my requested mod, here, seem very far away now. )

I'm still finding my feet at the moment butty.
When the dust has settled I shall definately look into it for you.

In the Lite version, there is no Weather widget. Does anyone know which app this is contained in please, and could you post a link up....I've downloaded 4Gb of crap today and dont fancy another half a gig downloading the removed apps.

Are you using a DjeMBeY stock, modified, ROM, with features removed, as per #1.6

There are 61 removed apps in the latest MGA release.

Yes and I have the link app installed already which is all I thought I needed. Looking at the app review it seems the latest update caused issue for some people. Shame as I like showing the kids photos on my tv. Now it isnt possible. Probably will go back to stock.

Edit: seems an issue with samsung account. It refuses to sync and sync is greyed out under accounts.

Also noticed the eye scroll no longer works as well as air scroll.

Bumping thread for comments on the above. Why do the smart scroll and air touch features not work on this rom? Even if the options are there are they still missing an app that was removed? Also why is samsung account sync diasbled and greyed out?

So just flashed MGA with the newest MD8 Modem. (MD8 well worth flashing btw as a massive signal boost from MF8 for me.I.e 4G is places I only got 3g in the past).

Note I flashed the cwm version on a complete system refresh. Of course had to install the wifi fix amd flash a modem but thats no big deal . So far this has the smoothest flash yet . Not a single hiccup.

So far a few features have started working again such as air swipe and eye detection /s-beam. Just installing some removed apps to test my samsung connectivity.

Fingers crossed.

Bingo Samsung account working fine and Samsung Link(allshare working). Happy now

I might try this ROM when I have more time. At the moment I've just rooted, installed Philz Touch recovery and ROM manager, (do you really need ROM manager ? Can't I just use Philz Touch recovery ?) currently doing a Nandroid (4423MB WTF !) Then I'll download all my usual root apps, and do a Titanium and an EFS. Then the fun can begin !

Just like to say I'm glad I only had my SGSIII for a few months before nicking the missuses up grade for an SGS4. It's nice to have the old faces back . With Ironass's tireless support with his idiot proof guides, Hawker already doing his nuke scripts and Syd ready to flash anything and report back before anyone else I think my flash counter will be in the 100s soon enough .

Good work dyno dude and good to see you back on the team.

Djembey is mighty fine, not hugely different from stock but cuts out all the crap, which is great for lazy gits like me who can't be bothered to do it themselves.

As for flashing loads, have tried several kernels and modems with little real benefit tbh. Think this phone is just so good it doesn't need a lot of fiddling with....but still worth trying for yourself I heard you like to fiddle.

3minit framework is defo worth it if you haven't already

Oh, I like to fiddle

3minit framework is definitely on the cards, but with the arrival of family any minute for tea my S4 and me will have to wait.

In relation to how good it is well I'm currently running my S4 in tandem with the S3 which is now stock and unrooted.(my profile says sold, it will be tomorrow I hope, I shan't miss it.) The S4 is definitely slicker, has a better screen and has something else apart from it's newness I can't put my finger on, it is just, well, better.

DjeMBeY,s MH1 pre-rooted firmware is up!

Same changelog as MGA. Updated Modem and CSC to MH1. Based on France (Orange), release.

Source

(Oh, what the heck! It's a lovely sunny day here and I'm just laying around. )

UPDATE

Everything fine with MH1 modified stock plus 3Minit MH1 framework. No difference from MGA except the modem which I suppose, in the spirit of a dedicated flasher, I should check out at my favourite, testing, waterhole... the Twilight Zone!

Finally got around to doing this. While your guide is fine Ironass for most people (the posts here are evidence of that) I share Rudedawg's confusion.

Eventually I bit the bullet. Did a dirty flash of MH1 over stock but rooted, odexed Vodafone ROM, with Odin, flashed Philz CWM with Odin. Then flashed the deodexed framework from the same post on XDA with CWM.

Now here is where I got confused (it isn't hard to confuse me, but it rarely lasts long) I still had all the bloat ware I had before. I presume this is because I didn't do any wipes whatsoever. Checked for root and busy box - OK. Did a Nandroid. Then flashed the 3minit framework and redownloaded the UI from the Play store. Happy days only email (stock app) didn't want to play. Deleted it's data and reset up my email. All working present and correct. Just trawled Titanium to freeze a few apps. So far so good.

Did you sign into your google account when you started the phone? Because some of the bloat removed from the rom are actually on my Google play account saved . So that installed the anyway. the sammy apps had gone (mostly).

Yes on looking I did Syd. DjeMBeY has done a sterling job with his ROM, but the thread is seriously difficult to follow in XDA.

Cool Hand Luke - Failure to Communicate - YouTube

DjeMBeY offers 3 versions of each release...

1. Is the full, stock, odexed, firmware that is rooted = "GT-I9505 Official Stock Packages:"

2. Is the LITE or de-bloated, deodexed, firmware, that is rooted = "GT-I9505 Modified Stock Packages:"

3. Is as above but for those that already have a custom recovery installed and is a flashable .zip file = "GT-I9505 Modified Stock ROM - CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP:"
(NB: You still have to flash the Wi-Fi fix via Odin on this version)

Currently, both the, "GT-I9505 Official Stock Packages:" and the, "GT-I9505 Modified Stock Packages:", are in DjeMBeY's post #1, here.

Whilst the, "GT-I9505 Modified Stock ROM - CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP:", is in his post #2, here

TIP: If you are looking for a de-bloated, (LITE), deodexed version of a firmware... I would select the, "GT-I9505 Modified Stock Packages:", and flash the MH1 Modified stock, deodexed, ROM via Odin, PC version. Then flash the latest Philz recovery .tar file, (5.11.2) via Odin and finally, install the 3Minit framework .zip, 3.4, for MH1 via Recovery and download the 3Minit Settings S4 app from the Play Store.

I'm using the red and blue colours that DjeMBeY currently uses in his package titles in his thread.

The problem is that his thread is constantly changing as new versions are added and re-named, which is why I DO NOT supply direct links to these packages in my posts #1 and #2, just headeings.

The only numbers in posts #1-#3 on here are my own, usual, Dummies Guide indexing, #1.1, #1.2, #2.3, #3.2, etc; that apply to this thread for reference.

UPDATE

I have slightly amended post #1 on here to show the exact package titles and colours that DjeMBeY is currently using in his thread to see if that helps avoid any ambiguity.

I only refer to apps like Samsung Link and You tube which to me are integral apps yet Djembey had them down as bloat. So he removed them yet if you use these apps or have downloaded them in the past from Google play , itll download them from there. Yes you should notice but seen as I have millions of apps synced I dont noticed which are which till ive finished. Wiping data is a big hassle for me and only do it if absolutely necessary. For example this latest build is no mean important to me. My phone runs spot on so why update? there isnt anything particularly new about it. also I have no external memory card (damn expensive) So back ups are few.

It sounds as though you may have flashed the stock, odexed, bloated, firmware version and then flashed the deodexed framework. Try my, "TIP:", in post #91 if you want the de-bloated and deodexed version that is suitable for the 3Minit framework.

One man's bloat is another man's, "must have".

Hence my instruction in #1.6...

Is it better to download the Full, stock, odexed, ROM and freeze/remove all the apps that you don't need or is it better to install the Lite/Super Slim, deodexed, ROM that currently has 61 apps removed and then just add the one or two apps you need?

No real need to flash MH1 if you are already on MGA. The XXUBMH1 modem may prove to be better for some but this can be flashed via Odin separately from here.

DjeMBeY's MGG pre-rooted firmware is up!

(Changelist: 1220396, (a lot higher/later than MGA & MH1, Changelist: 1081224. Remember... Samsung do not publish actual Changelogs))

MGG, full stock, odexed, rooted, ROM is loaded. Awaiting the Modified and CWM versions.

(Have put a request in for an MGG, 3Minit framework, here)
