https://mega.co.nz/#!oAgHFSgQ!BhVA6R2kMjly-FTHrsRIezkaHq1RuNJLaFDdNPTTawg

I'm afraid I gotta ninja you there..... 16th August just spelt echoe wrongly ;-)

Anyway, what modem do you guys recommend? I'm still on mga and it's been fine with every other Rom I've tried, but for some reason on KitKat echoe signal was terrible :-(

By that I mean, would it be possible to issue the ROM as almost stock, unseasoned, without the on-screen Nav bars, fancy background and dare I say it, the Echoe boot animation, no disrespect, so that users can then choose to add these mods to their own taste rather than removing one-by-one every time there is a ROM update.

I am sure you may have been asked this in the past and there are probably pro's and con's either way but I feel sure that from comments made by my colleagues on here and other threads, that adding is preferred to subtracting.

I'm not really expecting an answer from you old boy... just speaking on behalf of some of the forum members and asking that you may bear this in mind when cooking your next ROM.
You know u saying that, took me out of the difficult position of writing an essay and explaining my philosophy
As for the "old boy" here you go (ok i lost a bet to my wife and i had to post this pic she made of me publically... she was pushing me to publish it on FB but thankfully i avoided that). And no, im not angry!! It was last summer in Amsterdam

That's a look that wouldn't be out of place on the sopranos....

Glad to see you over here for some light relief after the rubbish being posted on xda!!

Btw, uncle ironass calls everyone old boy to detract from the fact that he's the only one in his nursing home who realises his phone is not the tv remote.

Go to the system option of that app, scroll all the way down and you will see a header called "buttons". The 2nd option there is called "Long HOME key bahaviour". Thats what u need..

I thought it might.

When all said and done, it is your ROM, your vision, your time and your effort and most importantly of all, your choices. Unlike xda, we do not make demands on dev's or rubbish their work. We do, however, have a good supply of horse heads!

No problem friedrich... you will be receiving, in due course, instructions on where to leave a brown manila envelope with €1,000 in used notes, for our silence.

OK then, I tried this rom or a couple of days ago and found a problem with my signal.... I decided to give it another go today and have stuck with it, but have the same issue, which I cannot live with..... Any time my screen goes off, my signal \connection to my network also disappears and I have to go back to the settings and rechoose my network or select automatic.... It works brilliantly, until my screen goes off and I one again have no network connection

Please give me ideas asap as I'm at work and really need the connection to be reliable (I've changed settings for preferred connection from 4g to 3g as I don't get 4g anywhere, but that was in the hope of solving the problem)

Thanks guys

A quick update, i am able to recieve calls with the connection like this, but am unable to make them? really really wanna use this rom, but cannot keep it with no signal, literally the second the screen is flicked off!

Will give it a go when i get home, but my signal is brilliant as is, when i select the network, its just the second i put the screen off, or it goes off by itself, (i can click to get screen back on immediatly) the network is away!

Otherwise known as Hawker's Disease.

No such problems here. I would consider a vanilla re-install if the new modem doesn't work. Also, don't forget that your phone is now identifying itself as a i9505G and not a i9505. If anyone doesn't believe me, try using Android Device Manager on your PC or go into the Play Store on your PC. There have been reports that certain carriers do not recognise the i9505G if asked for automated settings to be sent. EE was mentioned. Therefore, I would try setting up a new APN and manually entering your carriers settings.

that could be the issue as im with tmobile, but they use the ee/orange/tmobile networks so that may be my issue, ill have a wee looky and see if i can figure out how to set it all up manually, unless of course there is an ironass guide on such things :P

Just hope my work quietens down now, i mean the audacity that i cant get setting up my phone properly cos i have to interact with customers :P

lol sadly the more i play about with the apn settings etc, the less i think its to do with them.

Like i say, the phone is connecting brilliantly, connection is possibly stronger than ive had before, on the same modem!

What happens is :

If phone screen is off, i hit power button and phone has no signal when the screen wakens

I have to go : settings > more >mobile networks > network operators > (it then searches for a minute or two > choose automatically

There is then a message appears saying phone on registered network and everything works brilliantly and i have a full H signal

untill the screen either turns off automatically or i hit the power button and turn the screen off, then the network immediately disconnects and i have to go through all the procedure again

So you can see why i may not have an issue with apn settings, ive tried settings in gravity box, but nothing seems to work, likewise using the toggle button for 2g/3g etc

arrrrrgh, it might be back to aosp roms or wait for sammy kitkat :P

Signal/data drops on a screen-off usually points to your modem and/or non-hlos.bin

If you are still on the old bootloader then flash MGA or MH1 non-hlos.bin, then try flashing the modem-only that corresponds to your version of firmware.

If you are on the new bootloader flash both that corresponds with your firmware version

Still on old bootloader with mga modem, so when I get back, do you suggest I try to reflash that modem and it should put the bits and pieces back into place?

Do you think you may have also flashed a non-hlos.bin somewhere along the line too? Its certainly possible. Some modem tar files have been known to also contain these in the past.

I would definitely flash MGA modem and MGA non-hlos.bin initially and see how that copes.

well, thinking about it, the way i got onto MGA modem, was by flashing the stock pre rooted mga a while ago to use another MGA rom .as the the wifi was giving me issues which were solved with this flash. so, i dont know, would i have flashed all the appropriate bits and pieces?lol

Ill have a look when i get back and give it all a go though, will also try and put my screen shot of whats happening on you tube and post the link

MGA is not a 4.4 modem i believe its a 4.2 modem, this is where the problem lies

you need to update it to mj5 and upwards

the latest modem for EE is MK9
https://mega.co.nz/#!McAHSQhJ!LBLo12g5VrubbRpr_pl5jTcZ4V9QM03Kmqst-ZD00G0

power off phone
reboot manually into download
unpack zip file
flash Tar file via Odin as phone

This was why I mentioned to get back to modem+wifi back to mga first (as sntaylor is still on the old bootloader then mga or mh1 will be required) so we know where are with things, as its important to get the correct non-hlos.bin according to your version of bootloader, and THEN flash the modem-only part that is appropriate to the current firmware.

Drop outs when the screen goes off is symptomatic of an incompatible modem as itommo mentioned.

#1.2. "What you need to know to be able to use this rom:

1. everyone needs to be on the latest modem (I9005XXUNA1). I have it uploaded in our s4 echoe kitchen: S4 | EchoeROM EchoeROM

2. If you flash the rom without odin flashing the stock leak (get the stock android 4.4.2. Leak from here: https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0b3gpw...xport=download, here: https://mega.co.nz/#!n0evukjy!j_vma3...8gsvqfm-tfkzea, xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2465713 ) then you wont have wifi… everything else will work just fine but no wifi… If you choose this option then that means you can use this rom (without wifi) even if you are on the old bootloader .

3. If you want the full functional experience of echoe 13 (android 4.4.2) then its necessary that you do the following:
a. Reboot into download mode with the phone turned off. Using odin pc (v3.04 worked just fine for me) flash stock leak (get it from here: https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0b3gpw...xport=download, here: https://mega.co.nz/#!n0evukjy!j_vma3...8gsvqfm-tfkzea, xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2465713 )
b. Again via odin pc flash the latest philz recovery (get it from here: Goo.im Downloads - Browsing CWM_A...fltexx.tar.md5 )
c. Wipe cache, dalvik cache data and system (DO A CLEAN WIPE!!)
d. From recovery flash the echoe13 of your choice (deodex or odex version)
e. No need to root before hand!! Your phone will be rooted after flashing echoe13
f. *** Flashing the Stock Leak means flashing the new bootloader which means VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY!!!
"

***(or not! See #1.10, Knox Security & locked bootloader on new firmwares, it will trip the Knox Security flag and your device will not be Knox secure as a BYOD)

No-one could ever do it as well as you uncle ironass, there's no point even trying.....

Like iTommo, gonna give it a miss for now. The other kit Kat version is fine, save the camera and mms. Not worth losing the old boatloader, for now anyway....
