Default Quick Restore question

Hey... I just bought the nexus. Switched from the iPhone. I love it. That's my story. The Idea of jailbreaking is what I'm used to. Rooting is something I'm trying to discover now, like most people who post on here...

ANYWAY.... I've unlocked, rooted, etc etc. All was good. I recently upgraded to 4.0.4 and I think I was okay there. When I went to install AOKP (The latest version.. 25.. or 35? I think?) I went into recovery mode with the volumes and power button... and then I get the droid down error with the exclamation point in the warning triangle.... Okay... no big deal... most likely a newbie mistake... I'll gladly Restore it, but I don't believe I can, since the option to restore is blocked by the droid with the exclamation point.

Am I missing something obvious or is this something that will take a bit of time to fix?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer!!

UPDATE:

Since I just got this phone two days ago I did a complete factory reset with the Toolkit I used to root and unlock it. I also reset everything to factory on the phone through the settings... for awhile it kept saying I was on 4.0.4 even though I factory reset it... I don't know what I've done different but it now says 4.0.2

However when I run the phone in recover mode It shows the google logo... then goes right into the android error.... Ugh.

Final reply... I didn't realize everytime you upgrade the firmware or whatever, you need to root the phone over again. Rooted everything again and it all works
