Default How to update a custom ROM?

I'm currently on build 28 AOKP. Trying to go to build 31. I've done all the steps... full back up, wipe, install from zip... and I get an error msg. Do I have to remove 28 from the root file or is it something else?

Thanks

Most likely didn't download completely. Try downloading it again

OK I re-downloaded it, kept a close eye and made sure the download finished properly.
Removed the old zip file from root directory and saved the new one.
I turned off the phone, went into recovery mode, did the wipe/factory reset, install zip from SD card and get this error

-- Installing:/sdcard/aokp_maguro_build-31.zip
Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update...
Assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "maguro"
E :Error in /sdcard/aokp_maguro_build-31.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

Any idea?

Thanks guys

I can't figure this out lol

Any ideas at all?

Do I have to be connected to a computer while flashing?
Do I have to remove the old rom from the root file before flashing the new one?

I have moved this to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus All Things Root section.

OP
you might want to check the md5 on the newest aokp build, and verify it matches.

the fact your getting an installation aborted means that its an incomplete download

and if your a verizon galaxy nexus, you need "toro" not maguro.

Toro is the CDMA LTE version
Maguro is the GSM version

I've tried every mirror. I even tried the download for the LTE version. Oddly enough I was able to flash that version no problem but I guess because Im HSDPA:9 and not LTE it wouldn't read my sim and I had zero network connection. It flashed perfectly,i even flashed a theme too and everything was great except no service

Any more ideas what the hell is going on here? I'm currently using maguro aokp 28. I can't flash any maguro roms but I can flash toro roms but it won't connect to my network so no signal. Anyone ever heard of this? I've spent the better part of the day ripping my hair out over this.

Please somebody help me

Man, I don't know what to tell you. Try sending Roman a PM over on Rootzwiki.com He's the ROM developer and might could help you. Otherwise, try flashing a different maguro ROM.

On top of the rom issue... I was messing around with all sorts of shit with a file explorer app. Stuff I know nothing about and somehow got in even deeper when suddenly I had no network connection, it was like the phone didn't have a sim card.

Long story short... only after reaching the end of the internet I figured it all out. I'm currently on liquidsmooth v1.25, grabbed a wicked theme and my phone is operating fukin amazing.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Much appreciated!

Cheers

I have to same issues with the Gummy ROM. I've downloaded 0.9 as I'm on 0.8 and I'm getting the same sort of error message. Now I've wiped everything and downloaded the file again but still the message appears. Lucky I backed up my ROM. I'm going to wait for the 4.0.4 ICS rom to come out
