Default HTC One stuck on boot loop

Hi everyone, this is my very first forum post and so i heard CM was great and wanted to try it out. i found a good video on youtube showing how to unlock bootloader and root my device. the boot loader unlocked perfectly however the recovery file did not work. i googled if i needed a rooted device for CM and the CM site itself it would take care of it. i followed the instructions on it and installed the app on my phone and my windows desktop and connected my phone. it seemed to do everything fine. however at the end it said my device was not supported and i should do it manually. CM had already started to load on my phone and said the google apps were not working. i clicked ok and continuted on with the process. everything seemed to be working fine despite what the installer said. after about 30 minutes of playing with i did not like it and wanted to return to sense. when i pressed to power and volume down to factory reset my phone and turned it back on my phone was stuck on the intial loading screen with the CM robot face and the arrow turning around it. i have tried factory reset ,and wiping cache. also my computer reads the device as unauthorized when i do "search devices" on the command prompt. someone please suggest what i should do because this has not happened to me before.

Also when i go to install zip from /sdcard on recovery it says "E: Can't mount /sdcard"

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum.

OK, firstly, "factory reset" won't put your original software back. All it does is erase all user-installed apps, all app data and settings. If you have not modified the software that resets it back to factory condition, hence the name. So you will need to re-flash the stock software.

It's not clear from your post what recovery you do have. I've never used the "CM installer" thing, so don't know what it does, but I'd always recommend doing this type of thing manually: install a custom recovery (TWRP works well on the One, though I guess a CM tool is more likely to have installed ClockworkMod), back up the original ROM, wipe, then install the new one using recovery. That way if you don't like it you just restore the backup and you really are back where you were before.

So, options: if you do have a working custom recovery you could try installing a different ROM. Otherwise a HTC ROM Update Utility (RUU) will flash your phone back to the original software. However, RUUs check which region/network your phone was originally sold for, so we'll need to know this before we can find the right one for you. So if you can tell us where you are, whether the device is network branded (and if so, which network) or bought offline and unlocked, we can see whether we can find an RUU that matches your device.

Don't worry, these things are fixable one way or another.

Hey thanks a lot for the quick reply i really appreciate it. so to answer your questions in sequence.

when i go into recovery it does say it's clockworkmod so i believe thats the recovery being used. when i originally tried pushing the recovery file from my computer it wouldn't work im not sure why but CM Installer did it itself.

i do not have another working ROM as this was my first time trying to mod my phone. also i was talking to my friend about re-installing sense and i found this video by PhoneBuff its only 3 minutes long so if you take a look it would be great! How to return your HTC One to Sense 5 - YouTube

also im in Canada, but my device is unlocked. theres no logo on the back and it is factory unlocked

thanks again for the reply it really does mean a lot to me !

EDIT: so i missed one detail. when i connect my phone to my pc via USB Cable and enter search devices on the command prompt it lists my device as unauthorized. and i also think my USB debugging is turned off so will i still be able to install the htc rom with usb debugging turned of?

You will be able to use adb in recovery, the adb daemon is always running there, unlike the booted os where "usb debug" needs enabled.

You'll just need to flash a stockish rom by pushing it to data/media/0, or by using the adb sideload feature of recovery

Yes. You should be able to install a rom by pushing it to data/media/0 then flash via recovery,or simply place the rom in to your adb/fastboot coder and install it with the recoverys sideload feature.

When you enter adb devices while in recovery,do you get xxxx recovery in the cmd window?

Excellent. That means you should be able to either push the rom to your sd card,or flash it using the recoveries sideload option
