First time root and custom rom

Hi, i want to root my one x and put a custom rom then but i have some questions.

Recently I've noticed that my phone's speed has decreased and a friend of mine suggested using a custom rom. For example yesterday we were playing need for speed most wanted and I noticed big difference between my phones' graphics and my friends' S3. Also sometimes even htc sence and dolphin browser takes too long to start and lags.
I think that problem started when I moved almost every app in sd card, but even now that I moved back in phone memory the most major of them the problem still exists.
Did anyone have a similar problem?

I haven't even root the phone because I had no reason to as far as now.
I would like some information on what I should backup and will be restored automaticaly (applications, notes, tasks, etc).
I am not sure if I should restore everything from apps because I have too many of them (about 200).
I would also like you to recommend me a stable custom rom and if you had any further recommendations I would like to know!!

Welcome to AF!

What software version is your phone on at the moment? Has it had the JellyBean update?

Your most stable ROM would probably be ARHD or Venom.

I think you should probably start deleting some apps before you look at a custom ROM though, with that many installed at the same time, the percentage of a rogue app causing problems is quite high.

I am on 4.1.1 (official release).
Will my notes, contacts etc be automatically restored from my google account once I set up the new rom again?
Do I need to back up something else?

Not sure about your notes, what app do you use?

If you head to your gmail account via the web, then click contacts, do you see a list of the names on your phone?

There are backup apps, but you need root for them to work. There is an app called Carbon Backup which will do it without root, but it's new and I've no idea how good it is yet.

Let me have a read, see what others think
