Default W00t for my first smartphone!

Hello all! I'm new and have a shiny new Droid, and I'm pretty excited about it... except for one thing, which is why I'm here.

I'm pretty much a geek through and through, but I've been holding off getting a smartphone because I've always liked having a tactile, T9 keyboard. I type ridiculously fast on one (and I don't have to look to do so), and didn't want to have to switch to a virtual keyboard and/or qwerty and using two fingers. (I type over 100 wpm on a regular qwerty keyboard, so you'd think switching over would be no problem, but alas, that's not the case.)

So anyway, I finally took the plunge and bought a Droid, mainly because of its seamless integration with Google Voice. I freaking LOVE the phone... except for the lack of T9. I've tried a few different keyboard (Better Keyboard, Even Better Keyboard, Handcent, and NumberPad... something) and I haven't liked any of them very well. EBC crashed continuously, Handcent gave me only the first letter on each key, and BC and NP both were difficult to enter any word not in the dictionary.

So I'm here hoping to find out about nifty/useful Android apps in general, but hoping someone has a solution to my keyboard woes in particular. Right now I'm trying out Shapewriter, which, while not T9, hopefully will be less clumsy for me than the native qwerty keyboard.

We'll see. And in the meantime, if anyone has any better ideas for T9 apps, let me know. :-)

[And weak--I just discovered that UBB doesn't allow 2-character tags. So much for tagging this post with "T9"...]
