I'm not much for intro threads but figure if someone is helping me and I drive them nuts with a dumb question, then they can refer back to this one intro post and lol @ me.
So let me say this Android sh*t is making me feel old. I am of the early end of the Millennial Gen, the first group of teens to have computers for social reasons. We had Sega Genesis when they were just talking about shared gaming networks, we had pagers when they were popular, I lived on IRC forever, listened to GnR and later on went to raves when they existed. I am well learned in hardware, operating system admin, and site development. I am the first of the culture of "new world techies." Now we may as well be "old world techies" and I say that because I may have hit the limit.
My 80-year-old grandpa designed mainframes for the military back in his day and now I think I kind of understand how he feels when I look at what's become of cell phones, gaming systems, and our privacy today. Yes, I am still of the mindset for personal privacy and I barely embrace "Web 2.0."
With all that being said. I am with Sprint and while I'd love to have that Samsung Reclaim - I hear the GPS blows. That leaves me with no other option than awful Windows or the foreign coldness of Android. I had an HTC Mogul. Loved the phone but loathed the OS.
I am here to figure out how to make the Android work for me without sharing, synching, and linking anything I am not OK with sharing. That is all. All I want is a phone and a GPS. And a few other things like getting my damn keypad to go landscape when I'm texting someone.
Other "fun factoids:"
I'm a gal. I have cats. My cats are jerks and old. If I had known at 18 what 15-years looks like on the other side, I would've reconsidered pets. I say this with a dry sense of humor - I can't wait till they die so I can be animal free. I do love them very much though and take too good of care of them so they'll probably live another 10 damn years.
Finally - I started out in tech. Moved to media production and am now a writer for human rights and social issues.
The end.

One of my cats died on 4/20/2011 ... and I regret being so harsh.
But I still think the initial post is hilarious.
Anyway, the one who died had a lung tumor due to the previous asshole owner I adopted her from ... who smoked 2 packs in the house she lived in, a day.
As a result, I personally have now stopped smoking... even if I just smoked socially once or twice a month.
