Default Upgrading my Android.

I've a HTC Wildfire. It came with android 2.1(eclair). I'm thinking of updating it to Android 2.2(Froyo). Will it harm any thing? What about warranty? Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of rooting and android device?
Gratitude in advance.

Welcome to the AndroidForums, ka_unplugged.

So, I'm a little surprised that you are still on 2.1? Have you not received an over-the-air (OTA) update notification about the availability of 2.2?

You can go to Settings -> About phone -> Systems updates to tell the phone to look for an OTA update and follow the instructions given then.

I'm assuming you are not rooted, given your questions about it, so there should be no warranty issues assuming that you are still within the warranty period.

Have a look and/or post some questions in your phone's home forum:

HTC Wildfire - Android Forums

Wildfire - All Things Root - Android Forums

The folks in there can help guide you best since they have direct experience with your same phone.

Cheers!
