I need help desperately with my droidx2. I have a snowy screen and can't access my messages. The phone turns on and is functioning, but I can't see anything. Is there anyway for me to retrieve my text messages? I have messages on there from my dad who has passed away and I need to get them. Please help

Welcome riarock, glad to have you in the forums!

Although andPHAN is right i would be more than willing to help you address your problem.

I would suggest to connect your phone to your computer and try to retrieve any and all information you can from it, this is really your only option as the screen isn't showing up for you.

I wanted to ask a question too, is the boot screen showing up and then going black once it boots up or what?

Thanks for joining and enjoy your stay

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I did plug it into my pc, but unfortunately all I could find were the pics and stuff like that. It's the text messages i'm looking for. Do you know if there is a way to view the text messages via the computer when the phone is attached by the usb cable? The boot screen does not come up..if it does, I can't see it. My screen is just a bluish mess...it looks like denim! that's the best way to describe it lol

You could try booting up into recovery and factory resetting, i suppose that would get rid of your text messages though.

Honestly, if you didn't set a backup with them they are saved on your internal phone memory and i do not think there is a way to get to them and try and save them without having an app like SMS Backup & Restore, that might put them on your SD card instead.

Sorry i couldn't be of anymore help.

The best way is a specialist message backup app, which will save the messages in a portable format. But I'm not sure how to do that with the screen kaput - they'll need you to set them up or run them before they can work.

Do you have USB Debugging on? If so you might be able to retrieve the message database using adb. Set it up on your computer, connect via usb, and use the command "adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db mmssms.db" to copy it to your computer. The trouble is, if you don't have USB debugging on already, I don't know how to turn it on now. Also that database file will probably only work on another phone of the same type, running the same android version - you won't be able to just read it.

You won't be able to just copy the above file over usb - the computer can only see the SD card.

I think we should move this question to somewhere where it will get some more eyes. Do you prefer to repost in say Android Lounge, or should I move the thread?

do you have a hdmi cable, for your x2?
could try to connect to tv or monitor
then you can use 'sms back up +' free in market
or you can use adb if debugging is enabled
adb pull /system
not sure where texts are stored
but 'sms back up +' backs up to your gmail
